TL;DR Add 5 asterisks to the top of the commander tag, each one unlocks at +500 WvW ranks. Add popularity bars that grow and shrink depending on how many players have joined your squad in the past week.
Hey guys, in lieu of the upcoming changes I started pondering how to make the commander tags also changed based off of experience and popularity.
I drew a very rough sketch to help explain this idea. My goal was to keep the functionality both simple and tie into existing mechanics for fluid implementation.
Here I’ll describe the functions, each numbered explanation correlates to the numbered image.
1) Basic commander tag. Either as it currently is, or an updated version to better flow with parts 2 and 3.
2) Add 5 asterisks above the tag. Each asterisk is unlocked as the player hits X WvW rank points (ei. Every 500 ranks).
3) This image shows all 5 asterisks unlocked (ei from the player having hit 2,500 WvW rank points) in addition to popularity bars.
Popularity bars are based off of how many unique accounts have joined the commander’s squad at some point during the last week. There are 3 sets of bars and they progress outwards. For example, if 100 players have joined your squad in the past week, you will display the first set of popularity bars. You’d gain the second set at 250 players and the third set at 500 players.
The reason it’s based off the past week is to track and show off how active the commander has been recently. So if a commander takes leave from gaming, he will always retain the unlocked asterisks, but the popularity bars will reset since he hasn’t been playing.
This will also put some importance on actually joining/liking a commander. Ideally new squad abilities/features would be released with such an update.
