I guess that someone else already suggested that but I didn’t find any topic with “Search”.
Basically the idea is: make the Commander ability account wide and not character bound.
The 100 Gold price was meant to prevent that everyone buy it. So only people who really want to/need to will buy it. Then the question is: why they have to spend 100 Gold for each character?! The person playing is always the same, so why forcing to buy it again? In my opinion it is a very bad idea.
Make it account wide and refund 100 Gold to people who used it on more than one character (if anyone ever did it).

Good luck. Anet completely hates players who play more than one character for some unknown reason.

Just a related thought: If you have multiple commander tags, then make sure you give the two commanders similar names so PUGs on the map recognize you. Few people put faith in a commander they haven’t won battles with and/or don’t recognize.

You’re right. A possible solution to this is that commander displayed name is the account name. Or maybe put account name between brackets near character name.

I’m not for account-wide pins. If people start bringing alts or new characters through with a pin, it’ll get messy. No matter how WvW savvy someone is, I’m not following a lvl 10 commander around.

Discounts for pins after the first one would be welcome, though.

True. Most “hardcore” players already have 3 or more characters at lvl 80, maybe also one per class. And if someone buy a commander book, then it is not that idiot to go in WvW with a character lower than lvl 80.
And anyway, character level does NOT affect leadership capabilities.

In regards to the lowbie commander issue, you shouldn’t be able to rep the tag until you’re level 80 anyway. Not many lowbie’s have access to 100g in the first place, but you shouldn’t be leading a zerg until you’re 80

Of course that’s just my opinion.

@Zumi: True and I agree that if they put it account-wide, then you should be able to activate it only if the currently used character is level 80 (for WvW). No restrictions about PVE though.

This seems to be an easy one to “fix”. They could simply let commanders choose a separate commander name that shows when players scroll over the tag. This name would be account based.

Yes, this is a problem in need of a fix/solution. I’m not sure it’s a priority for Anet though, but it’s certainly something that needs to be addressed. I have 5 active level 80s in wvw (so far) on the same account, and my commander tag is available on only one of them… This needs to change, but the game has been out for nine-ten months and it still hasn’t been fixed, so I’m not sure it ever will.

Just a point and not probably relevant, but those of us who PvP’d in Gw1 did mostly use a naming convention that allowed recognition of different characters. I did the same here on all but one char.
More to the point, l just foolishly wasted 100g on a Tag bought in a rush during a Guild Mission on my main char, not my wvw char, after putting it off for ages, not reading the ‘fine print’, ‘account bound, soulbound on use’. >:|
Apparently Anet does not have the tools developed to transfer the tag to my other character, or is simply can’t be bothered.

It’s all about the money.

You pay gems for extra character slots , bank slots, char bag slots etc.

for standard account with 5 slots,

it’s 100g vs 500g for commander tags. No go dude, you asking for the sacrifice of dev’s Christmas bonus money.

Here are some facts
1)after year of play people mostly follow guild commanders. Like if on my server Anya or anybody from TaG put dorito on, everybody come to TS and start to follow them. But if some notsofamous guild put dorito on, nobody follow him. And it may be player well known on server, just his guild transfered and he would not to so he stay on our server

2) if you start commanding on your alt with different name, it will take about 2 days until people will start to recognize you again.

With these points in my mind, i want accound bound commander too. I got 6 lvl 80 characters and commander on 3 of them. But Now I started to lvl warrior because it is “needed” to our guild setup. I need to pay another 100 gold BECAUSE OF LACK OF OTHER GROUPING OPTIONS THAN 5 MAN PARTY.

It doesnt need to be account bound. If you have commander currently, give the option to pay 5 gold (for example) to the Commander guy in WvW and you get back the book which you then can move to another character via the bank.

Simple, without any sort of additional changes (refunding multiple commanders, etc). But again, never going to happen. Commander functionality is clearly not priority for Anet.

i am sure that making commander acc bound is easier for anet than making some 5gold for refund the book.

Ask yourself this question: does it affect spvp?

The answer is no, so it won’t be anywhere on their list of things to deal with.

I’d love to be able to have account bound tags, even though I very rarely tag up- and in fact my tag on one account is on a toon I now rarely use, even in wvw.
