Commander squad not working?
Another patch, another missed opportunity.
I was just thinking that after the EOTM patch and no real C&S changes. I guess I’ve been thinking that every patch since release….
commander tag should be account bound and need some commander skills, its 100g such a costly thing.making it account bound will make wvw more better and it will be worth buying a tag.

It should be account bound. With everything else they have changed I see no reason this can’t be as well.
In the event of a commander tag update they should rename the commander tag to ‘Ahmrill tag’.
If indeed they EVER update the commander tag Ahmrill will have been one of the people that repeatedly reminded us and developers just how poorely implemented the current commander tags are.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

lol…
Anet understands the system is NOT up to par, they have stated so. Yet it’s such a low priority for something that frustrates players on a daily basis. I realize changes to the commander and squad system don’t generate revenue from the gem store…. but players generate revenue.
Make some quick fixes ASAP…. like making private/guild only squads. If they don’t have resources or time to implement a completely new system at least give us basic tools to work with. We haven’t had basic tools since launch….
I heard Guild Wars 4 is shipping with this feature.
lol… perhaps then we can find a way to group properly.
I’ve only programmed minor games in C, C++ and Java and i don’t fully understand the workings of a large scale MMO. Please explain what has taken over a year to make each commander tag distinguishable? I’m finding it hard to believe it takes extensive effort to make the commander tag appear guild specific or just simply turn ‘gold’ when you’re in the same squad. You could add the options for commander tag into the right-click menu of a portrait (while you’re at it, make it so you can actually kick people from party in WvW). If you are lacking the manpower, send me the source onto my e-mail of the functions that need to be tweaked to add this, i wouldn’t mind giving it a shot. This is one of those things that really makes me puzzled, just like the lack of “Last online” feature in guild roster (which turns bigscale guilds off by the way, they’d rather play a subpar mmorpg with a solid guild system). Really hope you guys reprioritize the items on your list, i’d rather skip several Living Story episodes just for quality of life changes.

Exactly…. the priority level for the C&S system simply needs to go to the top of the list. I know it’s not making Anet money on the gem store, but flexible grouping systems are a fundamental part of MMO’s. Something GW2 still doesn’t have.
Matt Winter has been considering your suggestions for 8 months -.-
Make that a year now -.-

We’ve seen a lot of feedback regarding the commander system and what to add to it next, so keep the constructive feedback coming!
Observation indicates that enhancements to the commander system are an inverse function of feedback.

Commanders can get their own chat channel (/squad) and are able to use it as an effective way to coordinate groups. No large party UI is used for this system. You can also mark the map with special beacons by holding down the ALT key while clicking anywhere on the map. This will bring a box up that allows for different beacons to be placed.

suggestion:
add a proper 30 people party grid, where players can be moved around between
parties by the commander.
why it is good? allows the commander more control of their groups, have a soft cap of 30 on a “zerg” … ( a convenience cap not a real cap)
why is it bad? nothing is bad except maybe the commander UI will be little cluttered.
It would be nice if you could change your icon color so different squads could follow their own leader. Or even have a secondary icon the sub commanders could use that could be colored. Blue Taco Main Commander. Red Star Squad Captain 1. Purple Star Squad Captain 2. Would certainly make finding people on the map easier.

I imagine that we still have a lot of waiting to do or else they would have thrown it into the feature patch.
I’m so glad that we got a year and a half of Scarlet! #priorities
As I predicted circa 7 moths ago, it won’t happen overYEAR. Yeah. Wish I were just some cynical prick instead of a realist.

A year… I’d say you were an optimist. I don’t have expectations at all now nor expect any meaningful changes. At least not the changes the players want and posted in the collaborative thread.
Upgrading the commander system and UI is on our goal list. It’s a complicated task, requiring lots of resources however, which means it isn’t going to happen overnight. Believe me though, I find our commander system almost entirely lacking in useful functionality.
A year later, any update?

Absolutely no news or info that I’m aware of….. but it IS on their goal list.
Just like my goal list. Be married to 3 supermodels at the same time, have one of every sports car in the world and unlimited wealth. We can all have goal lists… doesn’t mean anything is going to change or happen.

Ahmrill has left GW2 because of supermodels, sports cars and wealth.
(I think)
