since account bound WxP is in the feature pack, will commander tag unlock be upgraded to be account unlock?

i dont want to buy one and have the tag be character bound once wxp becomes account bound, defeats the point of being able to use alts if your a known commander (and if no one else is able to tag up)

Well you’ve got two sides to to this argument, and I’m of the side that I’d like it if the commander tag was account bound. But I also don’t want it, there is enough commander tags around already, with people who shouldn’t have had one in the first place, this could lead to bigger headaches, just due to the fact that Commander tags aren’t gated in any way, or fashion. Because now you have people who shouldn’t be commanding, having that tag on all characters, even up-levels, not to mention there is another thing. I have a few people I know who have bought two, three, or more tags for their characters, what about them? I don’t think they’d appreciate if people now get account bound tags, and they’re out a couple hundred gold.

What about basic grouping in a MMO? Having only a 5 man group or a zerg as the only grouping systems is frustrating. Unfortunately it’s not how many players and guilds enjoy organizing and grouping.

I’m hoping the feature update gives us a way to create private and guild only squads for the the C&S system. IMO upgrading the C&S to be flexible enough for ALL types of grouping should be the #1 feature needed.

Apparently a decent grouping system is not important enough to make a feature on the “big feature patch”. Nothing about C&S we’ve heard off.

They may throw in colored tags and say they are listening to players, while high fiving each other in the anet offices. I guess we’ll see….

Couldn’t help it… my brain could not visualize that physical gesture among THOSE folk.

I did; however, find percussive posterior popping to fit the visual. That made the whole thread worthwhile.

There should be a separate GUILD TAG that is yellow like the guild names and can only be seen by guild members and party members. It costs 10 guild comidations and 10 gold. On the map it has precedence over the normal ones (when there are two tags ontop of each other, you see the guild one and name over the blue one). This also helps avoiding having pugs hop onto your organized group and mucking it up. Additionally, you can organize your havoc group via this tag.

Blue tag – Bought with 100g. (displays name: Commander yadda yadda)
Red tag – Bought with 10,000 Badges. (displays rank: Commander silver veteran)
Yellow tag – Bought with merits as an upgrade for guild members to use at will within guild. (Displays only to guild members)

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

The upgraded comm tag shouldn’t be bought for badges; No reason why someone who wishes to be a serious commander should have to save and spend all his badges to do it. It should be an upgrade to the basic badge, ideally necessary to even use in WvW, that comes with high wXP rank (400/500?). Will work well, post patch, when wXP is account bound. And yes, I know, any zergling can run around for months behind the commander and earn wXP, but few will stick with it that long, if that is all they do and, frankly, it’s the best indicator of experience we have!

Personally I’m not convinced about a guild tag, not because I have any problem with it, but because, unless they rework the tag completely, to make it stand out more, we will still prefer to run with the raid leader targeted. Even when we run “open mic” we normally target the leader for clarity.

It might make it easier for late joiners to see where the guild is on the map, but other than that…

Well that’s entirely the point. The fact that targeting your leader works better than the actual pin itself is because the current system is so bad.

It’s been mentioned lots, but there is an easy way to set this up to work for anyone doing anything.

- Currently you can turn the pin On/Off but it is always public when it’s on.
- We need to be able to turn the pin On/Off but also Public/Private.

When the Pin is flagged /On and /Private only the people currently in the squad can see the Pin… it would be invisible to anyone else on the map. Now you can have a squad system to be used for Guild only, Alliance only, Guild with friends or whatever players want to do. Public pins can get an extra 30 people flock to you when doing stealthy havoc forces and defeat the purpose. Or the pin draws people away from the public commander who needs people with him.

To me that sounds like the most simple and flexible way to set up the C&S.

That’s not a bad idea, but I think you missed my point completely. Maybe my fault in not being clear, maybe my post above helps?

There are lots of things they could improve in wvw. Commander tags is definitely one of them.
Out of all the discussion in the CDI, nothing has come out of it for wvw. Really not that hard to add functionality to the commander ability. Or at a minimum to make it account bound. Legendaries are becoming account bound. Really no reason commander tags shouldn’t be.

For those saying there should be a guild tag, I agree wholeheartedly. Temporary solution – put a target on your commander’s head and have them run without a tag. This takes away the ability to use the target the way it was intended, however. :\

But, yes, this is only true because of the flaws in the current tag, not because guild tags are a bad idea.

I agree the whole system could use a revamp. But a short term fix would be the ability to toggle the pin private.

I’ve run multiple guild groups with a commander pin and 3rd party voice. I’ve also run the same multiple guild groups together by marking a driver and 3rd party voice. By far having that visual in-game icon was much more effective for regrouping and rallying during and after fights. Even though having a pin helps our guild groups, the extra 30 people interferes with what our guild enjoys. Our guild likes doing stealthy fast moving havoc forces, that support the main public commander.

What many people have been asking for almost 2 years is some basic changes to increase flexibility and grouping options. A new system would be great, but we’ll take anything right now.
