Hey guys and galls,
I’ve been coming across this issue while commanding in WvW where I get supressed way to fast. Now I realise that there is a squad chat, but that just doesn’t work when commanding an entire zerg of pugs.
Just to give you an example;
If I run around with my 50-60 man zerg, and none of them are in the squad, I have to communicate with them via say, map or teamchat. Now you can say quite a bit before getting supressed, and I find myself getting supressed during zerg fights only.
This is mainly because in zerg fights, I can’t stand still (or autorun) for 5 seconds to type a coherent sentence. I usually have to shout out things such as “Stack”, “Push” “Retreat”, etc at a fairly frequent rate.
Removing the chat supression from commanders would help a great deal. I get the supression, it’s against spamming. But what person in his right mind would pay a 100 gold just to spam the chat?
Or maybe just disable it in WvW for commanders, instead of all-over.
I know, before Habib replied saying “squad chat doesn’t supress commanders”.. but not everyone will join these squads.
Care to enlighten us on this Devon? Any plans?
just tell everyone if they want to know whats going on to join your squad, or deal without knowing.
As to who would ‘waste’ 100g just to avoid spam suppression? I would wager the exact people who the spam suppression is there to stop would not hesitate to ‘waste’ 100g on the icon and that is gold sellers. Not like they work hard or earn the gold, it would just be the cost of doing their shady business.

Agreed, its sure something to be looked at and to look over it because i typed in team chat twice , the 3rd time i get the supress..while ur in a zerg fight many things happens that needs reactions and you ll have to type alot if alot of pugs around , its either to remove it or be easy on it
Yes this is quite the problem, As a commander I use /s chat alot and often get suppressed during the most pressing times… How can we command when we cannot give commands =)
If an commander abuses that he cannot get suppressed people can simply report him for spam in my opinion

And those people would bother going into WvW for that? I highly doubt it.
Interesting no dev post.
Yeah, I’d like to see a dev respond to this.
I believe there’s no dev reply yet because we’ve already had this topic and there was a rather unhelpful dev reply.

Squad chat doesn’t support the size of the average zerg and a lot of players have no idea how to join a squad, or even that squads exist, because the mechanic is not exactly obvious. If squad chat is supposed to be a viable replacement for /s these two issues need to be addressed first.
What exactly has to happen to have their chat supressed? I am VERY vocal about enemy movements (and my own) in /m chat on my server and I have never been surpressed. Is it simply stating the same exact word(s) over and over again? I might have 5 or 6 lines in a row within a short amount of time that say something like:
/m [Spiritholme] under white swords. Checking. 10secs away.
/m Vet south of [Dawns] just went red.
/m [Spiritholme] clear.
/m [Greenlake] has orange swords. Anyone have eyes there?
/m heading to [Garrison] wp, then [Greenlake] to check.
/m BO at [Greenlake] get here asap!
Except for the last line, those may all come about 20 seconds apart from each other, then I’m quiet for a couple of minutes.

As a commander, you can’t afford to be quiet for a couple of minutes.
Also, during a zerg VS zerg fight, you need to type in /say. During these fights, people don’t pay attention to the chat.
They need visuals. i.e. a chatbubble.
Could we get a dev response on this?
