Just a call-out to the community regarding Commander Tags.

Anet has kindly provided us with an icon to identify Commanders in a variety of colors, and most recently a second style (Catmander).

Seeing a Commander/Catmander tag allows players to have an idea of where to go.

I suggest that we (the community) set aside specific Commander and/or Catmander tags to identify specific roles. We could add this to an existing thread (or create one) to help out players participating in WvW (especially those new to WvW).

For example, we could set aside a color associated with each borderland(BL): Red for Red BL squads, Blue for Blue BL squads, Green for Green BL squads, and Purple (or some other color determined by the community) for Eternal Battle Ground. If you see a Blue Commanders tag on the Red BL, players would know that that commander has come to help out on that BL, but will be returning to Blue. Maybe assign White for a constantly roaming squad. Leave the rest of the colors for ad hoc groups.

While it may be difficult to initially get people to agree to use the tags for specific uses, if the community works together on this, we could have a simple tool to help identify roles at a glance.

Or ANet could just implement a suggestion that’s been drifting around in my head for a while now regarding what ‘role’ a commander wishes to label themselves as once tagging up. Quoting myself because too lazy to type it all out again…

I think an overlay feature regarding hovering the mouse over the tag on either the main/mini map would be much more simple to indicate what that tag’s role is.

Example: (WvW only) Tagging up prompts a drop down menu that requires you to pick your role (public, havoc, scout etc). Once chosen anyone who hovers over your tag on the main map/minimap will be able to view your role underneath your commander icon.

It is a good idea. However in some servers this is already adressed when colors first introduced. Maybe it can be done in your server as well. You don’t need whole www community to implement it.
