One of the things that irks me the most about WvW is cookie cutter borderlands.

What if Arenanet got some collaboration going with community graphic artists and gave each borderland a unique skin according to the world’s theme? For example, Crystal Desert’s borderland would be a desert with desert castles, Northern Shiverpeaks would have a Norn theme to it. It would feel like each different borderland you stepped into was a unique place with its own unique community of guilds.

The maps could stay exactly the same in terms of functional design, but I’d love to experience the different skins in each borderland with new worlds each week.

I feel like this could keep WvW more fresh for a lot of people, but maybe I am wrong. It also might take up way too much design time, but it is just something I’d absolutely love to see added to the game.

I also feel like having unique looking borderlands would contribute to server pride/community.

I agree that would be awesome. But like you said its probably to much work
Another that would look cool and I know is to much work is add it to EB to. So it looks kinda EotM. Anyway, nice idea

Personally I think that red/green/blue unique borderlands would be more practical.

That’s 51 unique borderlands.

I understand that community designers can attempt to alleviate the workload, but in fact with the amount of testing and fixing the designers’ errors that will be required, it’s unlikely to make any significant difference. The other problem is that players are only going to see a handful of these borderlands because any one server will only be pitted against a small number of servers, and NA/EU servers never meet. So, it’d be easier to just work on a few new maps and put them in a random pool.

[Edit: For the record, fighting in the Gate of Madness, Kaineng or Abaddon’s Mouth would still be amazing. Better if you didn’t have to do it every week.]

Some new themes would not be a bad idea at all, lets say 1 week your border is a desert with oasis and camels on it, the other is a snowy area with leopards and polarbears and such.

The random factor do not pleases me, server cumunity could vote to select the map, but i doubt every server are that organized :/

Well, I think that it could be worked out so that some borderlands would be shared between EU/NA: Far Shiverpeaks/Northern Shiverpeaks, for example.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I realize it probably isn’t realistic, but I just still really like this idea and I feel like it would add a lot of freshness/replayability

I think that a lot of bitter posts about how certain maps favor the attackers versus the defenders would bring some much-needed drama we haven’t seen since the matchup forums were closed.

I’d rather have the devs fixing the blob/coverage wars than have them spend time on making maps pretty.
