After i start watching this stream i got a little hope that something will change, and at least we will get some nice info, but after 2 min of stream i lost my hope. AN thinks that abilities on WvW are great, and trying to make them use by players. New orb will completly destroy GvG, and still like half of year till this orb. This is kinda pathetic.

Im playing WvW for 9 months now, AND ONLY WVW. I dont play PvE,sPvP – im more mass pvp player. Im just sad that AN is ignoring hardcore guilds – which they are making fun on your WvW. Most of people here, runing randomly on zombie zergs 1h per 3 days – so yeah, for that kind of ppl WvW is some kind of fun. I was expecting from today livestream something more, insted of listening how COOL abilities are, when they are not.
I said that on other topic. Im still here, cuz of my guild – nothing more, nothing less. Im pretty sure, that on new game with mass pvp + GvG system, borders on GW2 will be empty.
Was said also, Dev today ignored people – that pretty much how AN care about WvW players.

Getting them out in the open if their not in a zerg is am ok thing. Although wvw has already been screwed with enough to appease spvp that making it any more tempting is a bad thing.

I think at this point we all have to understand WvW is not going to be DAoC II. That just isn’t how they designed the game, and it’s too late to change it now.
The nub: WvW is an Arena for zergs.
By adding sPvP to WvW, they are providing an Arena for 5 mans and roamers.
Under the circumstances, that is the best that can be hoped for.
To be honest the few glimpses of what we could see from the remade middle area it really looked like a entertaining and refreshing place to PVP in.
There’s probably nothing stopping it from being sieged up into oblivion though … :/

I imagine that if the middle is overly sieged up that a zerg commander would take a detour to clean house. Shouldn’t be too much of an issue, and it does look fun.

i’m worried about this myself. We will have to see how things will play out. It may be the added distraction of the points allows for so much pushing around the map that it will fragment zergs though.

Dumbest solution ever. People will just build tons of siege in there and it’ll be unplayable by roaming solo/team. You’ll either get killed by siege or steam rolled by blob.
Frustrurated when they completely ignored the north alter place. There could be another cap point there. So lame.

As I said in the same post the guy was refering to,
It’s a snowball effect, arenanet has ignored the WvW comunity for ages and still does.
When a comunity gets ignored they get upset, when they get ignored even more or punched in the face by comments against the hardcore players who are the core of most servers, then they can’t expect any other treatment than this.
It’s a cycle they have started with bad comunication and it can still be fixed by saying the current guild roaming,defending and gvg comunity (they are different) exist and are approved of.
Which they don’t.
This however does not make negative spam on a stream a good thing to do…
Anyway I hope this is going to be a good change even though the buffs will be screwing over the gvg scene a bit.
If the buff is a stat boost it also nullifies the element these objectives give, smaller scale pvp
If it’s a buff that increases rewards on kills, yes please!
Anyway that said, ill be sitting on those cap points when I’m not running with TUP <3

I would like to see it where your server cannot capture it unless you are capturing at least three points simultaneously (To break up zergs and introduce smaller skirmishes) or that the points only give a power bonus to the 3rd place server

the orbs where much easier to defend in off coverage hours except for the flyhacking. this like everything else lately will just go to the server with more people punishing the low population servers.
I think they’ve almost completely revamped the borderlands map but they just haven’t updated the overview map yet cause if you look at the attached screenshot, there is little sign of the lake what so ever. In fact, you can see cliffs or hills in the background.
I wonder if this is the entire list of changes or whether there’ll be more on the Borderlands. With the Quaggans presumably out of a home, we need new mercenaries. Veteran Wurm for new mercenary?
Also, I hope this isn’t getting in the way of new borderlands maps?

Really objectively bad design. I already miss actually draining a keep’s supplies by both parties undertaking actual, logical measures you employ in a siege (like the defenders being forced to repair their gate/walls or placing siege themselves), and not artificial, gamey and plain abusable mechanics like this.
I hope the WvW dev team realizes that this will make it an absolutely necessary approach for defended T3 keeps/SN/some towers, and since there will only be a few select spots from which you can hit the supply huts, new siege strategies will be much less elastic and individual, and more copy-paste.
Previously every commander had their own way for taking such a hard nut of a keep, but this all will be levelled by everyone adopting the same strategy, they’ll just treb the supply away.
Mark my words.

People don’t seem to quite get the implications behind this. If you make it account-wide, you can simply keep/farm the points you make on your main character(s) and then invest those with a twink who solely exists for a gimmick, like said Treb Mastery.
And if you do that, you can just ask to introduce fully refundable traits, since people would abuse it as a quasi-reset anyway.
So you’re really asking for something more far-reaching than account-wide WXP.

However, WvW is its own game type and it requires attention specific to it. We are focused on making WvW as fun as it can possibly be and we will continue to make changes to WvW with that in mind. Our decisions regarding WvW will always have the needs of WvW paramount.

Bang on. At the end of the day they are a business, in it to make money, to milk the cash cow that is the casuals. Not guilds, they don’t give a hoot about what the majority want in the game. It’s a shame as it has massive potential, as pointed out in another thread the combat system is great. The devs though… lean more and more towards zzz siege wars.
Having seen them play in WvW on my server, it was obvious they play a different game to the guilds who roam and clash in WvW.
They don’t even know what they have. E-sport spvp… fail, fighting and holding objectives. When you have hundreds of guilds that would jump at the chance for 10v10, 15v15, 20v20 even 25v25. To battle it out mano a mano.
The fact they shun and ignore the roamers, the organised groups, the people who play to fight others, not sit in keeps zzzz.

With all due respect to you and your position, please spend a little time in the future finding out what the needs of WvW are in the eyes of the people who put the most into it. A lot of us can’t help but feel that you and your team are entirely out of touch with what players actually want and need out of WvW in order to keep playing it.
Various Topics:
1) GvG (i know, the great taboo, and I’ll get it out of the way first) is part of WvW presently, and a very big part of it. Many guilds are either taking part in a match or actively training for their next one any time they’re in WvW. It seems like you all keep using phrases like “player organized combat” and “open field combat” when you refer to this, and I think we players all agree that it’s time to recognize that it’s here to stay, and when you change things that affect players’ ability to do it, you hurt a portion of WvW. These players are not going to decide that PPT (which many have lost interest in) is suddenly an exciting prospect.
2) The PPT game, at present, is flawed deeply in that the present matchup system makes it largely irrelevant. Players want more variety, yes, but they want a challenge that they feel is possible to succeed in as well. Yes, people care about their “ratings,” but they care about the ability to win the week a lot more. Most matchups are decided before the first fight every happens. :-/ I think the change to the matchup system ranks up there with making server transfers no longer free as the single most damaging thing to WvW that’s occured thusfar.
3) Content. While we all love the new ranking system and rewards (really, they’re great), we want, more than anything, major overhauls and changes to the present maps. New maps, or cataclysmic changes to the present ones. The balance across all maps is inherently broken, and people have been pointing out specifically why since the game launched. We’d all love to see some real CHANGE.
4) Listening to player’s feedback. When you come up with an idea like reintroducing the orbs, players almost universally said “do not bring them back with gameplay-altering stat boosts.” Players wanted things like MF boosts, GF boosts, the same stats as the outmanned boost, etc. Players feel utterly ignored when you come out and go against all the feedback that was provided. This is NOT a GvG issue (while it does also affect GvG). The fact is, that with the new way you want to do it, you still guarantee that the team with the most coverage will almost universally control the buff. That’s completely broken, and it’s sad to see the decision was made anyway.

I have to say that I’m a bit conflicted about the new content that was announced. I think it might give some guilds the fights they are looking for during regular raids. Anet probably isn’t stupid enough to allow siege in these capture points so there must be some fights there. If these capture points work and bring more actual players to fight actual players and then I congratulate Anet on a job well done. They will then probably have made my time in the game better.
However as someone who supports GvG I’m scared that it might hurt the scene with the buffs of holding three of the objectives. I wonder why they have to be stat buffs like that? They could totally just make the orb buff a secondary thing like give magic find or increase speed and health on all dolyaks or just give 20ppt for holding 3 out of 5.
So I am happy that they are trying to bring in siegeless fights but sad that they can’t find a way to do so without hurting a player created competition to do so.
7.2k+ hours played on Minesweeper
Please make Bloodlust something that doesn’t have a direct effect on combat (although judging by the name it is). The orbs sucked not only because of the flyhacking but also because they were a snowball mechanic that favored the most populated server in the match. This will work the same, if you’re already outnumbered on the map good luck taking 3/5 of these new points while still pushing other objectives.
Not only will it royally kitten off the GvG crowd but it’ll be aggravating for solo/small group roamers. Losing what would have otherwise been an even fight because the enemy had bonus vitality or whatever dumb thing feels extremely cheap. Just make the buff something tertiary like magic find, supply returned when spent, or free out of combat swiftness. Then we might actually get some decent fights on this cool looking new terrain.
Sounds like daoc 8v8 leetists. Those guys were the rudist owest losers in the game. And should not be catered to. There is nothin wrong with zerging imo.

You (Anet) already stated that are reworking Living story dungeons (Molten Facility) to actually new Fractals so you can easily rework 1 fractal to a working GvG Arena as a base and pile more work and polish over it in time (or your free time like those guys who created Super Adventure Non-sense).

Indeed. Siege IS a central part of WvW and all these arrogant people who say “no one wants stronger siege” should get off their high horse and just shut up already. If you dislike siege, it doesn’t mean everyone else dislikes it too. You are just one loudmouth with an opinion, that’s all.
I admit I’m as disappointed with WvW as anyone, but Devon and his team is working hard it seems and I truly believe WvW will improve a lot in the near future. If it doesn’t, then I guess I’ll start crying too.

The changes previewed makes you, Anet, looks so much out of touch and deaf to your community it’s not even funny.
Granted, you shouldn’t do what community ask and nothing more. Granted, some things and plans sounds neat.
But…
-Pushing the wxp perks even more and still believe that making it soulbound is a good idea (hint: make it acc bound already instead of making workarounds around it like liquid wxp and faster gain rate)
-BL maps have new objective? sound nice…but the maps are still freaking small. obejctives were already too clustered, ppl asked to have larger maps for spread them more or have some workaround around it (like doubling the number of BL’s and halving the number of players per map). Overall, reducing the player/objective density. Instead, you trow 5 more objectives in the middle of the BLs w/o doing anything else regarding size?
-The system itself for buffs sounds terrible. manly because there is still much to be seen about it, but it opens up to even worse snowballing than orbs at first glance. ah, and if you bring back the orb stat buff, you’re effectively doing the most stupid thing you could. killing off istantly GvG’s and any fair roaming fighting while favouring the most numerous server.
-treb mastery is so OP that makes me cry. Again, siege v siege > player v player? Genius.
-“we will look at achievements for wvw being out of reach” – max rank is 10k – seems legit.
-no mention of some long time needed and asked bugifxes. no mention of fixing commander tags tools for make them worth 100g, or give them a guild perk variant, or make them usable in wvw with some kind of wvw gating for have only real wvwers become wvw commanders. no mention of fighting hackers and AC exploits. no mention, in any shape or form, about the most important topic, aka: kill the current blob 24/7 to win meta.

GvG is most definitely, unequivocally part of World vs World. This is what is known as emergent gaming, when a system that is created by a development company is used for more than it was origionally intended and it should be supported and nurtured not treated like the red-headed stepchild of the entire game.
Devon, if you and your team really wish to walk down the path of GvG is not WvW then you will kitten off a huge swathe of people – The same people who are in effect the backbone of your World vs World. Whether people wish to agree with that or not is really not something we can discuss, the servers with these guilds on fully understand and appreciate that the guilds who do GvG are generally the guilds who put the most into WvW.
So, great job Devon on listening to very few players, or listening to mostly the NA side of the game because I can assure you, you are not doing what is in the best interest of WvW, you are doing what you consider to be the best thing – they are not the same thing as proven by your silly implementation of arrowcart buffs and the nonsense that is mysteries.

lol lets hold the histrionics until we see what it actually entails. You are assuming it is a zone wide buff that you are automatically given or can’t be removed.

The buff will be stats to the entire map. Once you hold 3 of the 5 objectives your entire map is given that buff. It is zone wide – that is how the orb mechanics work.

Thanks for the video, got to see a lot of the mastery abilities I’ve never seen before and the tease at the new “orb” mechanic was cool. There is still work to be done but thank you for doing livestreams for us.

lol lets hold the histrionics until we see what it actually entails. You are assuming it is a zone wide buff that you are automatically given or can’t be removed.

you still dont understand that hardcore GvG guild, making community of WvW and leading them on servers, imagine what will happen when most of them will leave, and you will be on border with bunch of zombie blobs, without commanders and any communication or core guilds. Simply your loved blobing will end pretty fast on PvE.
And orb will block GvG or will make it much longer cuz of neutralizing.

This is not a high horse, this is understanding. I understand how an MMO, especially an MMO that involves OWPvP like World vs World works. I fully comprehend that both types of players are required, those that create the backbone and those that join as and when they wish – Catering to a single side of this will create problems and the WvW team are not creating anything for the “backbone” who strive for good fights, less lag and a meaningful experience in WvW (Which is why GvG was created in the first place). Instead the development team are focusing on fluff that really adds nothing to world vs world – They aren’t doing anything for emergent gaming – in fact they are doing something that will be detrimental to it going forward (The buff).
I could go into the entire aspect of the cascade effect that occurs in many OWPvP games especially when the top end of the game starts feeling disenfranchised however that would require me to put more effort into this thread than I am willing to.

Well, you know you are in trouble when the developer who is livestreaming refers to Supply Mastery as “cool”.
You also know you are in trouble when Devon always speak of changes that have been asked for from day 1 as something that they haven’t even started working on yet.
In a year from now I’m sure we’ll hear the same stuff. “Improving <> system takes time, but is definitely something we want to do”.
