Got a pt invitation from one of a pair of enemies I was battling. It was on my screen for only about 2-3 seconds, so it was probably a fluke and he meant to invite the other guy.
Frankly, I must have been living under a rock because I’ve never received an enemy invite and did not know it was even possible, game mechanics-wise.
I have two questions. 1) Does an enemy invitation have any social indication? Like calling a cease fire or something. I’m asking because a /bow usually isn’t courteous coming from an enemy in WvW, so that makes me wonder if an invitation has some specific motive behind it. And 2) if you accept a party invite from an enemy mid-battle, do you still continue to do damage to them, or is it harmless friendly fire from there on?

You’re still their enemy, you can do damage to eachother. If you go into stealth, they can see you. You can also see eachothers location on the map as a blue dot. They might invite you to say something nice, or ask a question. They may also invite you to be a jerk. Join if you want. If you don’t like what they have to say, just leave the group.
Also bowing might be condescending, but that may be presumptuous. A laugh is more obviously a jab at people. Bow’s are more appropriately a sign of respect. Of course its all somewhat ambiguous and people will take it as they will.
/bow is not courteous now? I always use it after a good fight or when initiating a duel (if they bow back I don’t stomp them and hope they return the courtesy). I also use it to stop a fight that’s pointless (ie if fighting a bunker guard where neither of us is going to win in a reasonable amount of time).
Generally when an enemy invites me to a group, it’s to say nice fight or something of the sort… other times it’s too tell me I’m OP and a no skill n00b.

Also, I find myself in want of a “flip the bird” emote too.
I’m pretty sure /bow is considered courteous. I usually /bow before dueling. I think the fair form of dueling is where you don’t actually kill your opponent, but the duel ends when one of the duelists is downed. This way neither get any armor repair bills.
And generally the chats with the enemy players have been very polite and friendly. There are good and nice players on every server. You can make new friends this way and some people have even migrated to Desolation, seeing that this a server where people care. Besides everybody can see player ids on these forums, so you can of course always send a message or whisper in game. I try to reply, the soonest I have time.
Only sometimes I get messages like “you had 2” e.g. in a situation when me + my ally downed a solo enemy player. This is perfectly understandable and normal. 2 vs 1 isn’t a fair fight.
But /laugh and /dance near or on top of enemy corpse is very rude and childish.

I also do it when lying dead while being watched by an enemy in a keep or something.. I mean I am bored, and he is bored. Why not?
(This is definitely not a ruse to keep check on his location through map … )
But I mostly use it if I face someone who duels very well. I’d party him before anyone dies (me mostly because i’m trying to party him). If he accepts we could start dueling for real, without killing.
I got an enemy invite this past weekend after my group had Golem rushed his tower. I accepted the invite before I realized who it was. He only stayed grouped long enough to deliver a tear soaked message then left before I could reply. A very brave soul indeed.
I didn’t even know this was possible, and is a pretty dumb “feature” IMO. This may have a place among honorable parties that wish to duel, but it is also another mechanic for griefing and crying. We should at least have a option to ignore enemy party requests. This is also a great way for spies to communicate information, which is still an issue.
I’d like to see an official response from ANET if this is “working as intended”, but I won’t hold my breath.

If this was last night in EB over by Rogue’s Quarry, I was going to suggest we fight after we took TC’s camp instead of before, risking a stalemate where the camp didn’t get flipped. But then (if it was you) ran into the camp swinging….
I rallied you 3 times from killing the camp NPCs, but they finished you off before I could get them all down. I’m le sorry.
