Crazy idea to fix everything at once
Then the hype dyes down and we got back to a normal population and now have even more empty maps.

I hoped I’d covered this in point 5 of my post – when population reduces Anet either reduce map caps or go back to 4 maps. If this doesn’t cover your concern please give me more details and I’ll think them over.
Just saying you are trying to fix a temporary non-issue. From my experience seeing the wvw in this game since the day it was public, these queues WILL go away. GW2 players are fair weather and hype driven.. This is not the first time even t8 experienced queues like this, and it WILL die down, I promise you.
I do like this suggestion and was also thinking about this.
If they could lower map population cap say 80 → 75, this would also help reduce lag a little in massive 3-way fights in EBG.
But I know that reset night always creates queues… especially on EBG.
These queues should go down soon, so this change probably will only create a situation where we will have multiple maps that are just empty during off hours.
We just need to wait a bit and see what happens.
Look at how effective someone is in a full Dire set.

Yeah. The good thing about this would be that it’s a lot easier to drop the map cap down than it is to increase it on a single set of borderlands, and it would have the advantage of reducing lag.
It may also be possible to have one map with a lower cap than the other to allow large / small play styles.

If you go back to 4 maps, then you lose both the choice of maps to play on as well as the the server identity feature. And guess which map would be kept? DBL, of course.
Didn’t I read somewhere that the devs said it was going to take a lot of work (2-3 months worth) before alpine was going to be ready to be back in rotation due to changes on the backend due to HoT?
The servers were merged to help alleviate " coverage wars". How do the servers cover that many maps during off hours, if it just ensures MORE PVD by the few servers that have off hours coverage instead?
If the maps are not adjusted to the population size, you still have too many maps in off hours/ not enough maps during peak hours issues to address. If they fail to make the maps available adjust to the population size this will always be the case as long as it remains a 24 hr game mode.
If you have the maps available adjust to the population size you may not necessarily need mergers unless they have no prime time coverage at all.

They’re stalling as long as possible, hoping players will change their mind about the Desert BL. Like the famous Mike Tyson quote, “I will **** you till you love me.”
DonĀ“t like it man sorry. First priority should be having a high population on maps. They should also put focus on safe bets, not work extra for something that may work or not. Like putting warcamp wp closer to mid in dessert = less running. Remove more traps etc <- safe bet, most will appreciate it. The reward track was grate. Non will get disappointed buy stuff like that i think.

It could just be a random desert or alpine instance, or maybe something smaller designed specifically for this purpose. It should provide some benefit, score or otherwise, while it’s open. It would be better than going to EotM, at least, as you’d still be contributing while waiting in queue.

I would be all for an idea like this.. Have a threshold of a certain amount of queue on every map before a new one is introduced, and then have them merged back together once it goes down just the same as overflows work in pve.

I have been saying this same thing for years..
I think the map should be more designed like EBG ( flatter, easy to navigate terrain with objectives closer together) and players would be more likely to play on it. Their map tests should include being able to navigate it without ever playing on it after drinking a case of beer. IF you cannot navigate it easily with direct routes and less space between objectives, it does not belong in a large scale PvP game mode. It needs to be welcoming to newbies and drunks alike if they want it to be utilized or the players will not play on it.
