Current state of the professions in WvW?
i’d say …
ele’s are vital for fields, guardians and warriors vital for CCs and tanking. mesmer utility still super useful.
engi, necro, thief, ranger are more often roamers. they can certainly help a group or zerg but aren’t vital to have. Staff necro can be good in GvG. In general current meta is condi necro most often the toughest thing you’ll fight roaming 1v1.
Seems thieves are getting tougher, I think maybe the fail thieves are playing less. Used to be 50/50 chance, now it seems every thief I fight either kills me or gets away. Same for Mesmers, except I can kill them a bit easier. Lots of warriors and guardians. Rangers seem under represented. Alot more glass cannon or tanky types of all classes (except condi necros), not as many jack of all trade types anymore it seems.

You should take necros out of the roaming category. They are amazing back line damage dealers and they have a cc of fear. Their wells are great support options as well.

their blind fields can also turn tides.
but nobody ever calls for a blind field.
they’re still considered more roaming until more people catch on to their group potential.
Warriors are solid and can bring a lot to a fight in multiple builds. The popular stun-lock build is devastating if you get caught up in it.
Guardians are also solid and again bring a whole lot to the table. Our roaming group almost always has a support Guardian with us and you can certainly feel the difference when he’s not around
Rangers are alright. Spirit Ranger’s can be difficult to deal with, though I haven’t fought one since their recent nerf. The best Ranger’s I’ve come across make good use of the sword auto-attack. Or at least turning off auto attack and handling it manually.
Mesmer’s seem in a tough place. Squishy and with poor condi removal I don’t see too many of them anymore. I’d say they could use a buff.
I also rarely see any ele’s outside of the support staff Elementalists. D/D got nerf’d away although I’ll occasionally see a S/D Ele out and about. Also a class that could use some dev love.
Thief depends. A well played S/D thief can tear up a small group. D/D thieves are dangerous in their scavenger role. And of course the most broken build in the game, D/P thieves. Curious when Anet is going to fix that.
Necro’s have a decent amount of build diversity. Mostly see condi/terrormancer’s but the occasional Axe build is pretty lethal too. Don’t see MM too much.
And I don’t even know about Engineer. I’m not scared of them, and fights either end in their death or their running away. I simply don’t know much about the class.
It sounds like it currently comes down to warriors, guardians a few elemental for good measure and a Mesmer to.

Rangers are absolutely OP if well controlled in roaming.
However, 100% kitten tier in Zergs. By far the most useless class in that.
Rangers bring a really powerful eliteskills for wvw:“Entangle”
Furthermore they have the best waterfield in game.
Mesmers are fine as they are but remove the pull from “Temporal Curtain” and give a proper point blank pull to the engineers.
And I don’t even know about Engineer. I’m not scared of them, and fights either end in their death or their running away. I simply don’t know much about the class.
Obviously you have not fought any perplexineers yet. you would have a different opinion when your combat choices are as follow’s;
1. Use an atk skill = suicide
2. use a Utility skill = suicide
3. heal = suicide
4. dodge = suicide
5. run away = run away.. oh wait the engi is faster than you are :/
runes of perplexity 6/6 no CD 5 stacks of confusion on interrupt too strong
would also like to point out that Engineers bring buckets of DPS and utility to zerg fights.
in my current build for example i run at 3000 atk 2000 Cdmg with high crit chance and tanky. also dont forget if an engi is running nades (most zerg engies do) the AOE cap is 9 not 5 because each nade can hit 3 targets and traited you throw three nades with each skill. it takes skill to play an engi good. this does not equate to engis not being good, just a case of L2P. lastly im gonna cut you off on the retaliation argument because one, its not as good as it was and two a good engi will be specced for and smart enough to mitigate it all.
Maybe people dont notice all the conditions I remove, or realize I just made those 5 enemies run in fear when they were about to finish them. As a Necromancer I focus on supporting groups. If Im alone, Im screwed…unless I run. Necromancers are good at escapes.
well, because anet buffs and nerfs around spvp. the gaps between classes willl become even bigger. right now after watching state of the game stream, i have very little hope for a good balance in wvw. mesmers are still mainly used for portal,veil and tw.apart from that we are rock bottom in zerg fights. reason for that is, that our aoe comes from clones and phantasms, that die way to quick in a zerg. we have some nice support tools, but those tools are already taken by other classes that can use them better and easier than we can. problem is the duelist issue that makes us (if not in condition meta) very much a-s class in spvp. everyone tells us:“but mesmers have this awesome utility.veil, porta,massinvis, tw!” well guess what, they are all support and not everyone wants to be a support utility slot! thats like forcing someone to be the healer, without him getting rewards for it!
warriors will see even more buffs, because lets be honest, they used to suck in spvp, but always were very strong in wvw. now they are already op and after they buff the shouts will be beyond godmode in wvw. seriously if anet doesnt separate the gamemode balancing, wvw will soon become a nightmare in terms of balance.

ugh your list is fail because you aren’t specific. If you are trying to imply this is your list overall for everything WvW related then it is total fail.
There are so many things you can do in WvW your list holds no weight because it is automatically becomes incorrect as soon as you start naming specific activities that occur daily in WvW.

I agree with oZii. You can’t create one list. That said, I don’t think you need as many lists as he mentioned. Really it comes down to 2.

These are the good classes for zerging. The others aren’t very important in this regard. No particular order.

perplexity is not the issue. im talking about wvw and stated not the roaming type balance. i stated that this is the zvz,gvg openfield and yes taking keeps and towers, and defending it.
dueling=spvp builds and in spvp we are fine.

i put them in c-class, because if u have watched to latest SOTG u would know that eles and warriors get buffs. and my list again is strictly based on my experiance in openfield fights, zvz,gvg, defending and capping. i dont lieroaming and its not what i do. perplexity will get nerfed, so thats not my issue atm. the issue is spvp!
and yes rangers are in a bad spot atm..actually always have been.

Styles list is a bit more reasonable in regards to ZvZ and GvG and as he stated in no particular order. Really he has 2 classes that aren’t in both that is thief and ranger which I agree on in a Zerg fight thief and ranger’s impact doesn’t seem as important.

actually i’ve seen more thieves in zergs recently. but it used to be them just roaming and gate taging. now i see them more active.
u probably put mesmer in a higher sport, because again of our utility. the utility is fine, but shouldnt be the only thing that we can do. only veiling, portaling and tw’ping is not fun.

Which side wins is determined by the amount of hammers available.

No im not crying, i have both hammers at level 80 with exo/asc equipment.
But every single other character is suffering because there is no reasanoble stabillity source for them available.

If you can’t catch a MESMER as a WARRIOR, you are doing something wrong.

Hammers dominate WvW period.staff+GS, I would say, but I’m a noob, so…
no problem if youre a noob, of course you can play GS+Staff but then you are one of the guys that support the hammers. Its really that simple, either you use a hammer or you support those guys with the hammers.
edit: i got both wvw-hammers full equipped myself.

How’s the balance?
What professions are vital for WvW?
What roles does they fill?
I mostly play with organized groups, so this is from an organized guild group point of view:
- Guardians: a core component of most organized groups. Great survivability and support (boons, condition removals, blasting fields), with decent damage.
- Warriors: huge damage and CC in melee trains, they can also provide support with condition removal and blasting water fields
- Elementalists: the best source for water fields to combo, they also provide nice ranged AoE damage
- Necros: they provide boon stripping and very heavy ranged damage
- Mesmers: mostly used for the utility they provide (boon stripping, veil, portal, timewarp), at the moment they suffer the high condition meta and their lack of decent AoE options in bigger fights
- Thieves: in a group setting they are ideally backline killers and scouts, but they also provide the best blast finisher in game (shortbow) and they can provide water fields stealing from rangers
- Rangers: they provide one of the most powerful controls in game with the current meta. Their elite area immobilize has been the cause of demise of countless players, but they seem quite rare, or more interested in wxp-training with the zerg or roaming solo
- Engineers: quite a rare sight in group fights at the moment, but they have some nice tricks that will work in the current meta (immobilizes/CCs) and they can provide huge dps
