And you have my bow (and guild)
Good luck to you guys. I am not a WvW player yet, but I am on Yak’s Bend. I just saw the stats, I know it must not be fun at the moment for you guys. :-/

It’s certainly not. The most frustrating part of it was the first night of combat we actually held a slim lead over Yak’s and AR and it was great fun for all three sides I imagine.
The issue came when we woke up the next day and Yak’s had pretty much everything under control on all three maps with gobs of siege protecting each tower / keep and a nasty 20k+ deficit.
During primetime the three servers are a great match, but off peak it’s no contest. And once one server gains all the points and get’s deeply entrenched with siege it breaks the spirit of the average player. Thusly the snowballing effect we currently see occurs.

That is one thing that Yak’s has, and that is the “latenight” pvp’ers/wvw’ers. We were getting stomped last week in other matches when they were 24 hours. Some days we did decent, others not so hot, and some we won.
I just hope ArenaNet is looking into situations like this, and improve the overall experience. Imo, I don’t like ANY fight that is too one sided, whether I’m winning or losing. I like the ones where there is a lot of give and take. It’s alright to be in the lead, and have a decent lead, but its another to totally dominate the entire map and camp respawns.
Good luck to you guys! (Oh and should anyone from Yak’s ask you about this, pretend I didn’t say anything! lol jk
Spoonerism approves of this post!
I would love to see some actual guilds out there trying to direct and help rather than PuG-ers like me.
Granted, people do like to listen sometimes and I can, with others in chat, help control the mob and get something done, it would be great to have an actual group structure out there making moves and helping to direct those who don’t have their guild out there.
Also – guilds generally will pool money to buy siege weapons, which I think is fantastic. It is difficult buying all the rams/catapults solo (not rich enough to purchase trebs/golems.)
I am not the youtube spoonerism, nor did I know about him prior to selecting this name.
*Google spoonerism, it is a real word.
I’m not very happy with the situation either. Stacking orb bonuses seem a bit op’d to me (although hopefully it is hitting home to everyone exactly how important they are).
I don’t enjoy camping enemy spawns either. That’s no fun.
I am not sure what exactly happened – I’m a prime time est player, and am usually in bed by midnight. I guess we have a late night presence that went around and took everything. Can’t do much to change that. From a purely selfish standpoint, Yak’s was having a lot of issues when we had the 1 day matchups and it’s nice to see us banding together, spending coin on upgrades etc when it matters.
I think without the Yak’s late night crew, the server matching is fairly good. There have been some good fights here and there…but I’m sure both you and Anvil Rock are tired of dashing yourselves against upgraded keep walls bristling with siege. I sure would be.
Keep plugging away and good luck. Maybe if we get another week at this, things will be different.

I’m all for getting rid of the orb bonuses to help give the down servers a chance, but I just can’t justify punishing people who enjoy playing at night. I personally only have time to play at night. With school, work, and basketball practice everyday, I normally only have time to play between the hours of 10pm-2am PST, 1am-5am East Coast time. I apologize for being on Yaks bend, but I made the decision to roll on Yaks months ago and have not transferred once. I really hope Arena-Net doesn’t decide to punish me for playing at night, because I currently really enjoy playing WvW with my friends. I guess the most I can do is hope that you other servers can recruit some night players to help even it out at night, im sure overtime the game will increase in popularity and people from different timezones will help you out, and if not, hopefully Arena Net will find an adequate alternative.
Our night players on darkhaven all got recruited off and left to other servers. I played the hell out of it and lead DH for about 9 hours that first night and helped keep it even. Then I come in the afternoon of the next day and yak has 2x our score and the whole map because of their night crew. I tried half heartedly the next few days and then it just became why bother. Darkhaven’s average players don’t read chat and can’t recognize danger if it’s hitting them in the face.
We treb down a wall 50 feet from a door, and 20+ players still keep whacking at the door while being screamed at to take the hole inside. 75% of people now fall under the mindless zerg category. They go wherever theres swords, and keep flowing with the zerg and following until they get wiped. Then rinse and repeat. Honestly I don’t think theres much hope at all for DH as lots of guilds and players have already left the server. I haven’t seen UK for awhile, pretty sure they’re all gone. Putting down siege is pointless because nobody will help build it. Plenty of times I’ve put rams down and waited minutes for 2 people to go complete it, and it never happens. 20 people will keep auto-attacking the door instead until defenders come and wipe them. Having some guild organization can help, but darkhaven will never be anything more than a bottom tier server unless your average joe can wake up and read chat much less grow some common sense.
Yak’s Bend 3Dubber here too. I was there Friday night and early Saturday AM. It started out a LOT of fun, close game, lots of fighting. Then I guess everyone on the other servers went to sleep.
When I got back to the game about 10AM Saturday, I was flabbergasted at the route that took place. Yak’s owned every node on all three maps, except the glitched Keep (Darkhaven?) we couldn’t take.
Honestly, I just PVE’d the rest of the weekend. Every time I checked, it was still as bad. I don’t play to dominate other players, I play to have fun and hope my teammates and enemies alike are enjoying themselves (Yeah, I’m one of those rare PVPers who don’t take it personally)
But the current state of affairs isn’t fun for me, and I suspect it’s even less so for those on the other end of it. When I finally got in last night (after FOUR HOURS in the queue), the Borderlands looked almost as bad but at least Eternal was in play, so I hope you guys made a comeback there.
In short, I love WvW, but the current match-up is about as much fun as the day we played Denravi and Isle. Which is to say, totally lopsided and not very much fun at all.

DJ – no need to apologize bro. Everybody plays when they can. I think (hope) this sort of thing should be able to sort itsself out over time. If Anet decides to:
1. Allow guilds to bring over their hard earned influence when they move servers
2. Stop free transfers
3. Potentially advertise the average queue times for WvW to make lower pop servers more appealing.
4. Switch the outmanned buff with the Orb Bonus. And / Or make some change to the orb bonus to stop it from snowballing so badly.
It could be a big boon to start evening things out. I will stick with Darkhaven and will not switch servers until I’m forced too by Anet. I don’t mind losing at all I just want a competitive fight. Yak’s / AR / DH are a great fit in primetime so it’s unfortunate that it’s gone down like this.

I received a couple more names and guilds last night. I’ll be working on setting up communication either tonight or tomorrow. Yak’s night crew killed us. Friday night into early Saturday DH was ahead. I went to sleep and when I woke and checked the scores, it was nuts. We had nothing. Just means it’s time to recruit some Aussies.
(edited by Lurko.7185)
It’s the first weekly match-up. We just happened to get a match with a server that has a heavy overnight pop. I shared everyone’s surprise on Saturday morning when I saw Yak’s had taken everything. We got 15 PD on and started taking supplies back, then Jerrifer’s. All the while zerglings were getting farmed in front of our spawn. I even saw one moron say he couldn’t get anywhere because he was getting spawn camped. Somehow, I was able to take a group of 15 players and shockingly avoid getting camped. Oh…it was because we turned right instead of going straight.
I think this early beat down is good for us because it’s spurring guild leaders like Lurko and others to realize we need to work together. If a group of guilds can organize and start working together, the zerglings will just be a distraction while we move together and take objectives.

Im on AR I really wish DH would stop attacking AR and focus on Yaks. Seriously they have had control the whole time. Instead of fighting against eachother we need to work to destroy Yaks zerg. They should allow a “truce” option between 2 worlds when the 3rd is dominating.
Anvil Rock
[Living Sacrifice]
Couldn’t agree with Roga more. It is appalling how often Darkhaven will just randomly attack Anvil for no reason, squabbling over oftentimes the only supply camp on the map that isn’t owned by Yaks.
When we made a run for Yak orb in Yak border yesterday we launched our assault from one of their towers, it was the only point on Yak’s we controlled, not 10minutes in a 35man Darkhaven zerg shows up out of nowhere and tries to attack our tower, just .. why, at that point in time yaks still owned 3 orbs and were 455+ pts to 75, 70.
But the saddest point I had seen yet, was yesterday morning 9am est, in eternal, every point on the map was blue except the supply camp closest to anvils spawn(speldan), and 10 darkhaven players ran all the way up from their spawn across the map, and attacked it. They would have had to run by 2 other supply camps a keep 3 towers plus the dredge cave to get there, but hey, cant have red owning a supply camp right?
Oh come on, it’s a 3 way battle. We fought a major battle against AR in the dredge tunnels as they were coming in behind Wildcreek. That tower happened to be the tower we were trebbing Stonemist from. It goes both ways. If you want DH to stop hitting AR then AR needs to stop hitting DH.
If you want to focus on Yaks, I am all for it. I can only guarantee the actions of PD though, there are just too many unorganized zerglings on both side right now.

One would assume that people on AR are dumb as well yes, take my word for it there is not a concentrated effort anywhere on our realm to ever attack a green camp that isn’t on our ‘land’ as it were.
We would all be better off only attacking yaks.
I have yet to even attack a DH. I havent even seen one…. because Yaks need to be shut down. I think the people who attack the other side wuss out and feel their only chance of glory is to try to beat a lesser foe.

I think if you are going to try and focus two servers against one you both have to do it with your eyes wide open and understand that there will always be people that are 1) to stupid to understand the benefits, 2) just want an easy fight, 3) have no idea what they are doing.
All you can control is what you and your guild does, there will be others working against the cooperation plan, but just assume thats one of the three above and move forward.
My server group is the same issues as yours. Everything taken at night, two lesser servers spending more time fighting each other then the main force, etc. Game is new, folks will get tired of being stomped all the time by a zerg server and learn to work it out or simply stop playing.
Lets get a WvW guild list going as well so people (like me) know which guilds are dedicated to WvW. Our server started off so well, but we’ve had a drop off lately…lets fix it!

If you are in a Guild, have your guild leaders either mail me in game or here so we can get your guild added to the list and site we have set up for the Darkhaven Guild Alliance.
I’m in a Drakhaven guild that does not participate in WvW. If anyone wants a level 80 Ranger power/crit build lemme know. I really only do WvW and have Ventrilo/Teamspeak.
Couldn’t agree with Roga more. It is appalling how often Darkhaven will just randomly attack Anvil for no reason, squabbling over oftentimes the only supply camp on the map that isn’t owned by Yaks.

That’s crazy. I would assume that if two sides are getting beat as badly as Darkhaven and Anvil that they would agree not to attack each other, and go after Yak’s. To keep attacking each other would most definitely mean your demise. With some coordinated effort, those two realms should give Yak’s major issues.
Good luck to you guys, and if you see me on the battle field, at least give me a wave before taking me out! :P
Its nice to see people from other servers sharing their input.
I transfered to this server from Blackgate, whether this was a good idea or not, I don’t know. According to the scored, backgate is towards the top…but I am getting off my planned topic…
I noticed someone mentioned, “Why does Darkhaven not attack Yaks, why do they keep attacking us when Yaks is dominating?”
I posed the same question in team chat in eternal battlegrounds last night to my fellow Darkhaven people. The response? “Well, Yaks is so far ahead, why should we try to catch up, we need to beat anvil rock since we are so close.”
So there you have it, while I definitely don’t agree with this idea, it is how many people were feeling. They wanted to win, and to win, they had to pick on someone, which in this case was Anvil Rock. I tried and tried to say, “Let’s take ogre watch” (currently controlled by Yaks) but no one would break away from taking things from Anvil Rock.
Now don’t get me wrong here, I am not saying we should form an alliance (i dont think server-server alliances are right) but when one side is dominating, it makes sense to me that we should take THEM down a peg, not finish off the 3rd side which is really our only defense from the dominating server attacking us.
I also see a lot of darkhaven people refusing to listen to anyone. this is fine, you paid your fees, but when we have 20+ people constantly attacking a heavily fortified keep and continiously dieing and not gaining any ground while the rest of us are actually trying to accomplish something, it grows frustrating.
What grows frustrating more is when 10 people walk by my downed body and after me politely asking “Hey guys, could one of you get me up?”, I receive no replies except my own side trampling over my body.
I love to pvp, I love WvWvW, i have a lot of fun, win or lose. I think Darkhaven really needs a guild to step up and lead. I would love to join and help lead, or follow, but either way, we need to get our dedicated WvWvW players together into one guild so we can properly fight back. (granted this might cause some armchairs generals to have conflicts with each other, but so be it, I feel I am a great mediator.)
You dont have to leave your current guild, Guild Wars 2 is nice enough to allow you to be in many guilds, but I guess my thing is, when you jump into WvWvW, if your current guild isn’t involved, why not throw on and represent the guild that is involved in WvWvW and help our server reach a new heights?
I am not the youtube spoonerism, nor did I know about him prior to selecting this name.

Darkhaven and Anvil Rock need to stop attacking each other. The only way will be for both forces to concentrate on Yak. Yak can’t stop a full attack by the 2 servers on each side. We just have to field the players.
I don’t see any issue with AR and DH ganging up on Yaks. Hell Yaks is so far ahead it won’t matter anyway. The issue here is that there is currently no way to really coordinate that. There are no server forums.
Purple Dragons – Fort Aspenwood

I’ll tell you what Darkhaven needs to do – They need to quit attacking Anvil Rock and start focusing on Yaks. They have 3x more people than both of our servers combined. So when we advance on our side of a borderland – you should probably not hit us in the backs – instead going to your side of the map and splitting their forces. I’m in Unbreakable MVP – the best guild on Anvil Rock – and we’re willing to work with anyone on Darkhaven to turn our situation around. unbreakableguild.com
Anvil rock needs to stop specifically going after darkhaven supply camps. Thats what makes us mad at you
I’m not the voice of our server – I can only speak for MVP, which is the largest and most proactive guild on Anvil Rock.
We also have the only commander that I’m aware of.
Was chatting the other day to get some context about what’s happening. Just so you’re aware, the majority of our “night presence” is a single mega-guild called the older gamers. I think they’re up to 5 guilds of about 500 players each now. They’ve got a day presence too but the majority of their players are oceanic. They’re co-ordinated through vent and listen to strategies.
While I feel for you guys, I don’t see how you’ll pull this one off. Even if you did pull together enough force to stop them, you’re only playing the guys that are bored and killing time. If there’s an actual battle going on to get those other players interested, you’re still going to be outnumbered severely. The 24 hour matches simply didn’t give our server enough time to bring our night guys to bear, so we are much lower in the rankings than we should be.
(edited by stealthmonkey.1563)
I am on Yak’s Bend as well, and up until this current rotation our server was getting completely massacred by Dragonbrand and other servers on the previous rotations. We were dead last every time and sometimes by a very large margin. I doubt we went from roadkill on the bottom of some server’s shoe to pro players overnight, so I think the rotation system needs to be looked at a bit more especially in regards to population and participation.
To be honest being the underdog is funner than being the huge zerg stomping single or small roaming groups like is happening right now, which is why I’m working on my sPvP and PvE (..and my WvW map completion).
Edit: I should mention that I think free server transfers are also the problem, because it creates a similar mechanic to sPvP matches where people on the losing team all quit midgame and everyone on the winning team stays..

@Sir William PD , you know, when there’s a zerg of Yaks, outside your spawn points, WITH seige weapons, AND they’re covering the side exits… what would call that, since apparently to you, ‘morons’ are just being ‘morons’?
Nah, Yaks needs to get lost and go somewhere else – you guys have way too many people to be paired with our two servers. Catch MVP in an even fight and we will slaughter you.
Don’t let the unfairness of the match-up sour you to the whole server. We’re not all spawn camping kittenheads.
Like I said, I won’t be back until the next rotation or something seriously changes in to power shift.
I wish both servers the best of luck.

As a player on Yak’s Bend, this matchup isn’t always fun on our end (or at least for me).
I did not play Friday night, so when I logged in around noon EST on Saturday, I saw we were ahead, but the current score didn’t seem reflect how far ahead we were.
Over the course of that day (on 2 characters, so I had some queue times in there), I started by being able to get Anvil Rock’s zone completed (bar one Vista as their Garrison Lord was bugged and we couldn’t damage him, even though we had like 50 people there for a good long time – there were some defenders preventing us from accessing one of the vistas), to swapping to Yak’s Borderlands on my other character and staying there.
When I first got into Yak’s Border, I think we had everything in the zone. Maybe minus a supply camp or something. This would have probably been maybe 2pm EST?
At that point you could tell the other servers were picking up, because suddenly our update score, which had been at around 480 at around noon EST started dropping.
Throughout the day (I WvW’d too much on Saturday), I saw Yaks Borderland go from us owning everything to us only owning our Garrision, to back to us owning everything.
Gradually checking the maps, the other zones looked the same. When I finally logged off from that day (very early AM Sunday), we had just reached 500 points at update tick, and had just retaken the entirety of our own borderland.
That entire day was amazing! All day where fights that were contested – we lost our orb in our borderland (because we had been unable to put it in our garrison, so it was in a keep), but took it back a couple hours later. We lost both keeps and all towers, but eventually took them back.
But all this was when the other servers had a presence. You could tell when their population was starting to drop, while ours wasn’t, and that’s when the tide started turning. Those left still put up a great fight, but numbers mean nearly everything in WvW, and it was obvious we had them at most/all times of the day, while neither other server did.
But to the unfun part – it’s ZERO fun to log in to WvW and see a points total of 680. That’s what it was when I logged in for a bit before work today (11:30 am EST). When I logged of about 90 minutes later, we owned 100% of all 4 maps.
Sure, that makes it easy to get zone completion – but you can only do that once (per character). And there’s no actual WvW (sieging, etc) going on when it’s 695-0-0.
It’s not actually fun.
It’s actually a lot more fun when it’s close. During that long session on Saturday, I think the lowest I saw our score was 280 – maybe 260 – but I know at one point all 3 servers were over 200. That’s when it was good to be there.
Hopefully these kinds of population issues are taken into account in the future, but when you log in and we have fully upgraded everything from the overnight, WvW is a lot of standing around and waiting for the other servers to start logging in.
Not much different than waiting in the queue, really.
Yesterday night on Darkhaven Borderland we had a lot of fun, we could organize ourselves and take back most of our forts and towers…. we just comunicated better using the chat, telling where Yaks forces were and how many.
Ir proves that if more people come we can do a better stand, this match is over Yaks won but we can have some fun and slaughter some of them on the way.
Hope to see more people tonight.

Last night Darkhaven and Anvil Rock did great. The score ticks for the night were really close actually. Total score still has Yaks of course. But I really think Yaks felt the pressures. I didn’t have a chance to log on this morning to see if we were night capped again though.
Yes – very well done. We started at +5 and got up to +225 or so while I was on. We were puttin in solid work!

Anyone know if Darkhaven currently has a open Vent or Mumble server? I just need to know before we pull the trigger on setting one up for Darkhaven.
Pak has a licensed TeamSpeak server. However it’s private and can’t be used for those purposes. So I’m looking at possible setting up a 40 person vent or mumble server for Darkhaven WvW with one of my guildies Phalse.
I know it’s been said, but I hope everyone also remembers that this is the first week-long match, and the fights WILL get more even as there is more data to base the match-ups on. Also, there are probably tons of players who will want to get on WvWvW and be a solid contributor, but are waiting to level their characters and hone their skills in the game, rather than be immediate zerg-food. (I am one of those!)
On that note, and I think this has also already been asked, but are there any guilds recruiting specifically for WvW? I’m in my own guild, but we’re very small (just friends) and are mostly focused on PvE. When we’re leveled and confident, I would love to take them to WvW, but as of right now I wouldn’t mind joining a larger, more organized and experienced guild to help with WvW. I do not wish to be a zergling!

There have been a lot of really good points brought up in this discussion. There has been little discussion about actual strategy and coordination. I am sure the original poster is gathering his list in an attempt to form a collaborative plan that everyone can agree upon. Here is a modal that I think should be considered, or some variation of it.
We all know that time zones and prime times are a huge factor in WvW, no doubt. I think this can be overcome with a comprehensive strategy, if everyone can buy into it.
Let’s start by looking at this huge resource that we’re still trying to get a full grasp on, our combined guilds and their collective power. So I propose that every week (or however often WvW ends up resetting) a tally is done to determine the six most powerful guilds. Powerful as in how many active level 80s they have and do they have a good, known and respected commander that can effectively lead in WvW. Raw numbers are easy to figure, but the second is very subjective and can be ascertained by some voting mechanism or whatever.
Anyway, the reason it’s important to determine the six most powerful guilds on server, is because each will be take a four-hour shift, responsible for their watch on WvW. The most powerful guild will have first choice and so on down the line on which 4-hour block they claim, until all six have selected coverage for a full, 24-hour day. Obviously, that guild should choose their own prime time, or as close to it as possible, when most their members are online.
Now, I know there is a lot of mindless zerging going on and complete cluster-F mindset skirmishing going on. There’s not much we can do about that because people are free to play the game as they see fit and we can’t tell all players what to do, nor should we be able to. However, my personal opinion is that the only two valid reasons anyone should Q up for WvW is they are either: a) going to participate in fun, coordinated, team-play to capture or hold a map (involving good sportsmanship); or b) they need to clear the map for 100% world completion achievement. Nobody should bother using a precious slot for any other reason…period. But that is not very realistic.
Ideally, under this proposal, any solo or small team that enters WvW would immediately ask team chat who’s in charge and how they can help. The Watch Commander for that 4-hour block is then aware of their involvement which is important because to make sound strategic decisions, the first thing any commander needs to know is: what are his resources! How many people does he have and how much money can they pull together for siege equipment, etc. These factors will fuel or hinder his ability to take and/or hold.
Let’s say an offensive is going really, really well and nobody wants to lose momentum with a good campaign. The incoming Watch Commander of the next guild’s shift can and should yield to keep the momentum going. Or the map can vote to keep current commander…whatever. Perhaps they can plan a joint command over the 8-hour course of their consecutive shifts, one leading in defense one of offense. Lots of options, which I understand can lead to lots of bickering, but hopefully adult mindsets and team spirit dedicated to fun will prevail.
Each commander will have their own style, and many will not agree with their approach. Those concerns should be discussed and considered among guild leaders. What is the best strategy that typically works? These ideas should be shared and known between guild leaders/watch commanders. Some say blitz offensives, going quickly from one objective to the next to keep the defenders off balance is the way to go. Others are more methodical, in building defenses of what they take before moving on to the next target. Lots of different strategies can be employed, but one thing is for sure. If we’re going to compete in the future, we do need to agree on some form of cooperation between our guilds.
Oh yeah, and close server changes. A friend of mine said his whole guild left Dark Haven because we were losing so badly. Honestly, I think that’s pretty lame for a whole guild to leave within a day or two of this onslaught. The very good point has been made…let’s give this WvW a few more rotations to collect data and balance out. I’m certain Anet will come up with something that keeps their hard-core fans happy.
Finally, I want to say that I respect all the Yak’s folks stepping up here and saying that what is happening is sad. I feel the same way and we’ve seen Dark Haven control the entire map too, just recently in fact. I thought it was SO incredibly boring and just ran around to do my very tedious map completion. I think it’s pretty cool that there are so many good players here who say they just want a good, well-fought fight.
Sorry about the long narrative and thanks if you read it all.
Cheers!
Akorn,
That’s excellent to know that some more help it on the way. To gain some more confidence I would definitely go to the “Heart of the Mists” and complete all the Siege events. Those are perfect for letting you use the weapons in a low stress environment.
While being level 80 is better than not you certainly don’t have to be. I’ve been in WvW with my Mesmer since level 10 and typically do just fine.
As far as the mumble server goes we have a 20 slot but it’s private at this point. Would have to discuss internally to see if we can open it up a bit / add some more slots.
Hurc Hammerborn – Guardian
Legion of Legionnaires [LoL] – Darkhaven
Oh and I forgot to clarify that I think each of the top 6 guilds should have (maybe even make it a prerequisite to make the list) a commander with Commander Training. Even if that means each of their guild members contributing 50s or whatever to make that happen. It would be most effective to be able to form real raiding parties and have that kind of view of the big picture.
I also don’t mean to suggest that 80s are any less effective or not welcome in WvW. I just mean that if someone has an 80-level character, they don’t have to balance their time with pve and can, if they so choose, dedicate themselves more to WvW. Most of us know, a good campaign to take even just a few holdings can last hours, especially when well-defended.
