Deadly *lol* new WvW abilities
The problem is we have no quickbar space for active skills. Hence – Passives.
As long as none of the active skills are meant for combat, this isn’t a problem. You would just open the WvW window, double click a skill, and close it again. They could even make a vertical sized window, specially for the active skills, that fits the side of the screen.

The only way to make a boiling oil trait worth learning is if it allows us to replace the pot of oil with the Iron Forgeman from Sorrow’s Embrace story mode.
Could be a little OP though.
If Maning oil protect you from any damage it would be useful
Remember that soloing camps gets a lot harder if it’s fully upgraded, or there are enemy players there too. I’m sure as hell not going to waste points on guard defence (at least until I’ve a few hundred more wvw ranks under my belt), but there are valid reasons that people might take it.
Let me guess those upgrades. Increased radius, higher damage, longer staying on ground, possibly some weird skill and something like increase condition damage or lenght, or add some new conditions.
So I saw this and began hitting my head into the nearest wall:
Dangerous New WvW Abilities
Become even deadlier in The Mists with new World vs. World abilities like Burning Oil Mastery or new ranks in Defense Against Guards!Who comes up with this stuff and can you please make them actually play WvW before they do?
1) You never saw a bunch of golems dying in forgotten oil? There are some funny youtube videos about that.
2) This is an advertisement not a patch note, this is written by an advertisement designer and not by a player/game designer. It contains as many useful information as any other advertisement
I am not sure we should use events of stupidity as a basis for what makes a mastery useful or not.
Even if it is an advertisement, it still represents two new abilities being added that are completely worthless. Each of those abilities represents design/development time that could be better spent on useful aspects of WvW, real changes.
It’s nice that we have you to tell us what’s useful and what isn’t in WvW. It saves us the time and trouble of actually waiting and seeing what gets added.
So you enjoy standing on an Oil can that has nothing to pour onto below because every man and his dog are stood back pelting it (and you) with all incendiary.. now how will oil mastery help.. they are useless beyond belief, so yeah I think the OP has a point.

Unless the new trait line lets you turn the oil into a projectile.

arrowcart oil O.O
maybe something like immobilising someone with the oil – that would make it at least a bit more usefull
Never let facts interfere with your opinion.
R.I.P. Liquid World Experience
Just wait – oil’s range will be massively buffed with the trait so you can hit their trebs.
Hahaha
Vizunah’s dream ^^
Yeah, the oil itself is useful simply by its presence.
That doesn’t mean Oil Mastery will be at all useful.
No one builds anything on the gate while the oil is up, so points in making the oil better are a waste.
Well thats not exactly true but then agian those that do build on a gate with oil still up are banking on a victory due to defenders dieing from laughter (or are just that inexperienced) and you probably dont need any boosts to win.
Bout the only time I’ve ever seen oil being all that useful was on a slightly overzelous golem rush. Asside from thakittens mearly built to slow down the enemy zerg for another minute while they kill it so your zerg has time to arrive and repell them.
Last week stopped a 6 golem raid dead in its tracks with burning oil. Granted I’ll be rank 300 before I ever put points into burning oil but occasionally it has it’s uses.
Also there are many people who do nothing but cap camps and tag doors in the off hours, just because someone doesn’t play your style doesn’t make their game play invalid. I would think they would max both the defense and attack ranks against guards.
[MM] recruiting currently
They can’t balance the pvp and you want them to add abilities affecting players directly? Hell they allowed consumables to make cash off of them in WvW and created even worse imbalance.
given the fact that attacking guards with max rank will get you 175hp each hit on them after you killed 5 guards and that buff dont go away before you map out or die
with the defense also you will make it alot easyer in a small groupe to take a guarded camp where it will be close to impossbile now unless you outman them pretty much.
