Dear Anet, Thank You

I agree whole-heartedly. It may take a little while for people to realize “Zerging the center is bad for PTT”. However once they figure that part out and leave it to smaller groups to fight for, it’ll be wondrous.
And even if the zerg does decide to try and fight in that center, they will be forced to split. Smaller fights, even 10-20 vs 10-20 is a massive improvement in engagement scales in t1.
I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a game change. This is going to create real skirmishing instead of running from zergballs. Finally we actually get to fight each other. Not too sure about the canons, but at least they are accessible
Thanks Anet for listening to the smaller groups who enjoy actually fighting other players.
Hugh, you are the man.
ARGHHLAGHLAHGHHAH THIS IS AWESOME!

And here I thought I needed to find a different game to play.
Thank You Anet, now do something about the lag and I’d pay a sub.
thank you anet,
I will now have the time to try out your PvE content as I will no longer step foot in wvw.

If zerging the center gives good rewards people will do it regardless of ppt. Maybe not on tier 1, but on every other server with people who do not care about ppt.
One big zerg will just run a circle around these points wiping your smaller groups. They will cap the points as you run back from spawn.

So far, all it seems to provide is stat boosts for a fairly large time commitment.
Sure you could zerg it up and spend 10 minutes grabbing buffs. Meanwhile the smart server next door is taking yo cookies from bay.

Imagine the zerg that’s already got your bay (and the rest of your BL) with even more stats! That’s what we’re really going to see.
My guild cannot wait for this new WvW update. We are a small roaming group who likes to skirmish. The problem is that we are in T1, and everyone else wants to zerg. For once, our small team can make a difference in WvW and have some good fights doing it.
Cheers to you, Anet, I am cancelling my FF14 sub!
Thank you,
BB
I think you are being overly optimistic to be honest. ANET’s track record with WvW is not all that great. While I hope you are right, I am expecting some new zerg friendly pile of kitten.

Don’t know what tier that is. However in T1, the winning server still cannot keep control of EVERY point of every map. Zergs may roam through there every once in a while to get the buffs if necessary, however when there are actual things that cost PPT that need to be taken, these things will be largely ignored.

Pretty soon, we’ll be doing the seasons, and we’ll see totally insane matchups between servers with huge ranking gaps. This is only going to exacerbate the curbstomping that the lower ranked servers will receive.
Same goes for my guild and me, I really do appreciate the focus and thought behind your latest presentation of coming updates via stream. I was becoming very sceptical in the past, but the prospect you just gave made me really happy.
The Terrain looks great, it really encourages smallscale play, ideally splits up the zerg, focuses on killing players and makes it possible to outplay a bigger army. I`m very excited about this game again, thank you very much!
Best regards and keep up the good work, you`ve just proven that you`re indeed capable of doing something for the pvp`ers in wvw. Please continue doing so.

Every time I read “this is going to break up the zerg”, I haven’t seen it stick. Maybe this time is different. But I am at the point where I will believe it when I see it, and when it stays that way for weeks (not just initially).

Looking forward to this! A LOT!

I think this will reward servers with many smaller/midsize guilds over the blobby servers. Looking forward for lots of awesome fights

You sad misguided soul.
Without the big blobs or zergs you wouldn’t be able to cap ANYTHING with your small team. You NEED that big blob or you would just be exercising fastest run routes from a waypoint.
a lot of people will be disappointed they are not it.
@ Altie:
I`ve capped everything in this game with two guys, soloed keep lords, wiped triple the size of my 5 man. Just because YOU are not able to fight in smaller groups doesn`t mean, others aren`t. Now get back to the blob really quick, otherwise it might occur you have to do pvp in wvw, now that`s terrifying, ha?

If this works as expected I’m going to live inside WvW
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Boulder where does anything direct your thinkin towards smaller groups fighting smaller groups?
Seriously man, a year and some of the same crap. Don’t know how you are optimistic. The competitive natured guilds have all left. All that’s left is just bad Zergers fighting bad zergers….
Speak for yourself

Im tentatively optimistic about these changes. Having roamed exclusively since October last year, Ive been sick to death of zerg fights and the ppt game on the whole. This change however has at least given the ppl that want to pvp properly, somewhere to go and play.
My only concerns are:
> Map layout in terms of towers and keeps should be more spread… zergs will run through alot with it being the middle of the map
> Over buffing the already dominating over wvw populated, off prime time servers
> Lack of rewards for the dedicated Bloodlust cappers – No wxp, no tower defense/cap silver etc – Make stomp kills in the area have a higher chance of exotics
Apart from that Im looking forward to this, roll on the 17th
Commanders or guild leaders will have to choose: buff or keep/tower points?
Because You cannot have both. If Your zerg is running circles on capture points, 5-man team can steal a keep. And if that zerg will go to defend keep, other 5-man team can take buff.
Problem will be only on homeland borderland where there are 2 attackers zergs. Defenders dont have numbers to defend bay and hills at same time. You can have 5 arrow carts but against 50 man? So this time one zerg will be running circles around capture points and second one will be taking keeps/towers.
But at least defenders will have some points for defending second keep for some time.
Yea i agree i think i will have lots of fun with the new borderlands. Thank you Anet
The only thing i really dont like abt the update is the bloodlust buff… a stat buff takes any competition out of it… lame

Maybe not in the top tiers, but in the lower tiers people will just be punished more :/ Not all of them but some will be affected, and who knows there might be more. I hope not.

You obviously didn’t get my point so I’ll clarify…
If it wasn’t for blobs fighting blobs you’d be encountering defenders. And you won’t cap anything with defenders.
And no need to try to make yourself seem awesome, all of us have capped stuff with very little people. And no, i don’t zerg, I play in a small guild.
a lot of people will be disappointed they are not it.

If there was 1 defender in there with an AC, or some supply you wouldn’t be able to.
I’m glad to see some optimism about this. I don’t know how it’ll treat my tier 8 server but I’m looking forward to trying a bit of roaming with a purpose.
The new map changes looks great, the only issue I have is the god kitten stats increase the bloodlust buff will provide.

They had to make the buff desirable. There has to be a reason to care about obtaining the buff on one or multiple maps. I don’t know that the 50 stat point bonus is the best way to that but it’s obviously desirable and fulfills the objective of making this mechanic relevant. People didn’t care about the quaggans because, for the most part, they didn’t matter. I’m willing to wait and see if the 50 stat point buff is fine as is or if it’s too powerful and promotes snowballing.
The design of the ruins favours lots of skirmishing and less zergy fighting. Unlike the orb mechanic, you won’t have the luxury of fully upgraded keeps protecting your orb, you have five vulnerable points on the map (and running from one to another looks like it was designed to be less convenient so you will have to spread out to capture and hold them). I think people are underestimating how difficult it will be to hold all points on the map and the orb buff at the same time. Even if it still doesn’t solve the coverage wins problem, it’s a less zergy mechanic. To capture or defend a buff you need to protect at least three points on the map, I doubt that’s going to be as easy as people claim it to be.
At the very least I expect the ruins to create a new dynamic in WvW, different gameplay which caters to players who want to do something other than zerg. The emphasis on split tactics to capture and hold the buff as well as the increased value of small ops stomping will be a new dynamic in the point scoring for WvW.

Yeah, I expect the zergs to roll through the cap points, especially when their side is having a hard time holding it. However, we are used to running from zergs and the geometry seems like it will provide us with easy get aways. In the end though, 3 minutes is a very long time for a T1 map zerg to stay in one place that leaves their keeps and towers vulnerable.
As for the stat buff, I could take it or leave it. After a year I am used to WvW’ing for no reward and little impact on the PPT (which I could care less about). I come from DAoC though, so rewarding winners is also something I don’t have a problem with (even when losing). Of course, the competition between SoR/JQ/BG is good enough that I don’t think it will be as big of an issue as it could be in the lower tiers.
I am extremely glad that the new cap sites don’t give Karma/WXP/XP. These kinds of rewards make it more appealing to the zergs, and are more or less meaningless to my group.
My team is super excited about this patch. I am glad to see some others are as well!
