Defeated players as spies
i agree… it is quite annoying when a player literally runs into the fray of a fight that wont be won, like in a supply camp such a pangloss (tight ways in, hard to penetrate). just to relay information while dead about where things are, how much defense, etc.
If you suspect this is what they are doing why not flip it up on them. Send EVERYONE away in a circle, come back around and wait inside fort.
Also defeated enemies can tag targets on other players they can see. Not sure this is intended.
I agree with this, they shouldn’t be able to interact.
meh! this happened in Warhammer too. You know what they are doing so yes, move off but out of visual range. The dead should also have a respawn timer. in War it was 15 mins i think (was a while since i was in and never let the timer run all the way down anyway) So a 5 or 10 min timer till they respawn automatically at the default spawn point would be a good idea. Enough time to get them up if its in a battle but not enough for them to spy for too long if left alone.

I hate when they use the dead person to spot the range on trebs, that is annoying.

Such a sad topic… I feel your pain, mate!! Those dead persons can lay there for 10 minutes before they’ll be kicked from WvW! How’s it even fair? They should get auto uninstall and permanently ban for doing such bad-bad things!
Simple solution, IMO:
Have a 100 second timer when you die. Every second the screen gets 1% darker until it turns black completely black at 100 seconds. You can still lie there for as long as you want AND see the map. When an ally begins to resurrect you, each second they spent would add 10 seconds / 10% to this timer until you are rezzed, or until it goes black again. That way you can stay down as long as you like, but cannot spy for more then 100 seconds (just under two minutes).

Would love if this happened right here.
i dont see a problem with spies, its a tatic, so what learn to beat it

Having one person suicide to see troop movements is not a tactic.

This is the bigger issue……
Happens pretty much 100% of the time when I’ve WvW’d lately. Actually, I’ve seen people just run up to doors solo, drop an AoE to rouse defenders, then seemingly get killed on purpose, just to “test to defenses”. This isn’t too bad a tactic honestly. BUT …
Then they lie there dead for quite a while (several minutes), reporting on the number and classes of defenders, what siege or upgrades are built, if the defenders left, etc. Its basically unlimited nearly-free (costs them repair costs) unstoppable intelligence gathering in real-time.
Actual militaries spend insane amounts of money to get satellites, aircraft, and unmanned drones to do the same thing.
Plenty of guilds already use secondary accounts on opposing servers to not only spy, but drain supplies.
well its a game not real life and you can counter this strategy, quite easily with just communication

If they could send in someone that would die and still give reports and intel on the enemy then they would come back to life somewhere else at a point of there choosing i think the military would do this.
This was a common tactic back with dark age of camelot 10 years ago. It’s nothing new or innovative.

If you have not noticed the game was built around real world war scenarios and mechanics. You know cut their supplies for long enough and you will be able to siege a keep more readily. Gather intelligence and be rewarded.
Nonsense. In real world you don’t have magic.
Nooo… if they can’t seem me dancing on their corpses…..
Why not simply..
“You have 60 seconds until respawn..”
And then you respawn at the nearest waypoint. Simple. Logical. Fixes stuff.

Or, alternatively, a means for the enemy to “bury” you, effectively forcing a respawn. Right click on a downed enemy to finish them, then right click on a finished enemy to start a 10-second count that sends them to their spawn.
So if there’s a rolling battle going on, you can lay there in the hopes your team wins and can get you back up. If the enemy wins, they can take a couple minute for “cleanup”.
In related news, I also don’t like that someone can restore your health to 10%, get chased off, come back, restore it to 30%, get chased off, come back, restore it to 70%, get chased off, etc, until eventually the dead person is resurrected. Restored health should tick back down to zero if the person has to stop rezzing.
A game that’s 100% WvW

I wouldn’t mind the screen going black/dark after 30 secs or so….
This is silly. Sometimes it’s used as a tactic, sometimes the dead person is actually waiting for a rez. They happen to report on things because they’re dead with nothing better to do, while waiting for a res. I experienced this recently — I actually intended to see how far our trebuchets were hitting, but I was not on a kamikaze mission. I did die however, but I was waiting for a rez from nearby players and/or waiting for one of our nearby waypoints to get out of combat so I could take the waypoint.
That all said, to remove it as a tactic they have two options: make your screen black, or do like some FPS games do and zoom you into first-person view looking at the ground — and perhaps obscure the screen red.
work you way around it? is like Spies in RL.. they leak information.. nothing wrong with that.. lol..
u know u can do that too.. dont you?? ._.
next thread is gnna be.. “QQ my enemy is using siege weapons, please remove them”

Wow, so much depth and knowledge here, thanks for the great contributions! But I am pretty sure a dead spy in RL, as you say, would be fairly useless in information gathering. Which is not to say is the same case for a dead spy in GW2….

Since you can actively retreat to a waypoint yourself, this implies you’re not dead but merely incapacitated. Something not too unsimmilar to being tied down but still being able to overhear and in some cases see enemy strategies.
I agree that there should be some sort of forced respawn or a screen-blackening because this is a VERY common tactic of a lot of the enemies we face. Not that it does them any good half the time, but it’s annoying seeing some person deliberately remaining dead near your supply camp and there’s not a thing you can do about it except hope they get bored or impatient.

Hi all, from a purely personal point of view this is a fairly common tactic in most open pvp / server vs server pvp environments I’ve been engaged in over the years and although many see it us unfair/unsuitable or just down right silly, it has developed into a common and reasonable tactic.
Using dead players to extend ones view of the battlefield may not go with the ethos of honorable combat but frankly it is part of the game, it is something that wvw guilds have been using for a long time i other games and its not something you will tend to find many complain about as it can be worked around with good comms and tactics.

Dead players → Screen should turn black and/ or worldmap be opened and not possible to close it until porting to the waypoint.
use it against them, feint.

Wow. The only valid complain that makes sense in this entire forum. I agree that dead players should not be given any way to interact with the environment which includes looking around.
haha bury them, love that idea… better yet..burn them!
The ressing and running off, ressing and running off is a tactic you can also use. Our guild uses it all the time, we try to get to the gate, if we die, we chain ress each other. It’s called ‘helping out your friends’
It does, however, stop those ppl chain ressing from actually attacking the enemy, so… instead of qqing about it, either use it on your own team mates or take that opportunity to push forward…

In RL, you can kill spies. In GW2, they just become ghosts or invulnerable clones.
The dead tell no secrets. I vote for black screen in WvW\sPvP.
