the wvw ability “Defense Against Guards” says:

from Upgrade 1-5:
1-5% reduced dmg (total) FROM guards

But Upgrade 7 says:
7% reduced dmg AGAINST guards, lords and supervisors
(9th upgrade says that too just for 10% less dmg)

does this mean i will deal 7% less dmg to guards etc?

german translation uses the word “gegen” which can only mean that i would deal less damage TO the guards, lords and supervisors!
the german sentence states that clearly the way it is written…

but this could be just a correct translation of an accidental wrong wording in the english text…

My Question now:
Does the 7th (and 9th) upgrade of “Defense Against Guards” actually reduce the damage you deal to them or is it just some stupid mistake where they accidently changed the wording for the 7th (and 9th) upgrade in a wrong way?

because i just dont see any sense in having an ability that reduces the dmg you deal?!

or is that reduced damage to npc enemies the thing you need to sacrifice in order to be able to get +2500 health with the 10th upgrade from that ability?

It’s almost certainly a mistake. But they will probably never fix it.

Anet is pretty terrible with phrasing their tooltips and description. Almost certainly just a nomenclature mistake.

That being said, even if it did reduce your damage against guards, it wouldn’t matter at all. Still would be worth it for free vitality at 10.

yes but if it does then i would wait until i have enough points to get to upgrade 10 right away…
would be stupid to run around dealing 7-10% less dmg to npcs until you have enough points to unlock upgrade 10 ^^
