RolePlay/PvP/Raid

Hey!
I’ve got good (but controversial) idea. In my opinion “Battlegrounds” would be better than open WvW maps. Well done BG’s with goals would be much more interesting to play than WvW.
People could join there solo or with their friends (premade). And play against clearly established number of players rather than be smashed by bigger zerg.
And think how many different BG types devs could create. GW2 offers a lot of interesting mechanics. IMO WvW is wasting potential.

Ya I also don’t understand why this doesn’t exist already. Players/teams/guilds que up…..we get something like a 20vs12. Game generates the map. Could just be pieces of existing wvsw maps. “assault the keep”….have 20 assault overlook and 12 defend it, and have all sorts of interesting fun objectives and stuff going on. attackers spawn outside…they have camps around the keep….they get bonuses for stuff like kills and get more and better siege weapons the longer their camps are operating. Defenders can raid the camps and diminish attacker siege capacity. Could have npc help attack the keep…
i mean the sky is the limit when designing little scenarios like this to create great fun for everyone. Everything can be polished to actually accomodate the population and give people the sieges and fights they want with meaningful components and an overall sense of victory at the end.
Doing a 10vs10 or 20vs20 attack defense battle for 20-60 mins. Even fight guild would welcome this. Wouldn’t take much for a open field map where guilds go at it and get actual points towards an overall victory objective each time they beat/wipe the enemy. Everyone could be happy….

Great! Pull more players out of wvw and spvp. Exactly what anet wants to do. Brilliant!

To be fair, his idea included deleting WvW..
Just give me a server that is pure open world PVP. Glorious battles in the main cities, carnage across the landscape. No place is safe.
Or rather than server tie us to a faction. That has been mentioned before too.

I missed having an open world PvP server in GW2. On a smaller scale I have missed being able to crank up duels with players as well. Two features notably absent from their offerings.
Lol.No!
GW2 is one of the few themepark games that offers actual open world PvP combat.
Why degrade it to something like WoW’s battlegrounds?
It would have to be in spvp setting or you cant have ranks to it. So better to ask for deleting of Spvp for bigger fights? Or you know just ask for bigger fights in spvp and nothing as foolish as asking for wvw to be deleted due to your own frustrations.

I do like to wander around a pve map once in awhile for the view and music but I get a little down after a bit wondering how much fun it would be if there were an open pvp ruleset versions of the mega server where a guild could claim favor of towns like we do with Hyleks and Ogres.

I disagree about deleting WVW. WVW is supposed to be RVRVR style pvp environment. Whereas battlegrounds are more what is in this game SPVP, just with more options and expanded rule sets.
I would not delete WVW, but would most definetly add battlegrounds to SPVP. 10 vs 10, 15 vs 15, 20 vs 20 and with different modes such as deathmatch, CTF, objective interactions, etc.
It would make the whole game a lot better, and the GVG guys would have 10 v 10, 15 v 15 and 20 v 20 deathmatches to play solving a ton of issues for them, especially gear imbalances which has been their complaint for a long, long time as well as arena issues. Then impliment a guild ladder with some extra chests or something for being at or near the top. This would really revitalize things on that front. But even if they did do it now, I don’t know if it would not be too little too late.
Wvw is pretty interesting to me, it’s the sole reason I came to GW2, it’s one of the very few games that offers large group wvw fighting. I’ve played in WoW BG’s for many years, most games these days offers BG’s but are unable to offer anything bigger than that. Even WoW’s SSvTM was suppose to be 100v100 player map and it got toned down to 40v40 because of code limitations but it still lagged pretty hard.
If you want Battlegrounds then add it to the spvp side where balance is more tightly controlled with smaller numbers. I wouldn’t allow premade groups into BG’s though, as those tend to wreck BG’s pretty easily.
It’s too bad they didn’t make courtyard bigger to support 20v20 gvg fighting. Anet never seem to think big when it comes to designing arenas.
DaoC had the kind of setup for wvw/rvr similar to what the OP is talking about. They had a smaller battlegrounds, with a castle and port in points for each of the 3 races…..the map was fairly small, with the chance to have lots of battles and sieges. The other map was the full map, with points/castles/towers for the taking spread out all over a pretty huge map. Both maps were pretty popular. BGs were better for quick battles and for people who didn’t want to spend all day/night playing the game. The larger map was for larger scale battles, capture the flag sorts of events, and just all out war.
Their wvw system is still very well done, it is just a very old game, with dated graphics, not many people still playing it, and a monthly sub cost(ugh).

Except he wasn’t talking about daoc setup, he was talking about regular battlegrounds which exist in almost every other mmo these days.
“BG’s with goals” – different types of matches
“established number of players”- 10v10, 15v15, 20v20
“think how many different BG types devs could create” – capture the flag, deathmatch, team deathmatch, conquest, stronghold, points race, etc.
Good luck to the OP with BG’s though, considering how fast Anet develops spvp/wvw map currently, it’ll be another decade before that happens.
There are few things that I do for entertainment after a long day of work and this is one of those. I really just wish they would stop changing it and disrupting the little time I have to enjoy relaxing and playing a video game.
I think more about battlegrounds made in GW2 style. Just copy good things from WvW and paste it to the BG’s.
We could get modes like… 40v40, where “team A” have to defend a castle, and “team B” attacks it. There would be some towers around, camps, etc stuff. There would be some tactics to win for sure.
Also we could have something on a smaller scale, without castles. Just towers, camps.
There’s alot of possibilities.
IMO much better idea than “open” WvW ’ -’

I’d like some mini battles, like fort aspenwood in gw1. Could have them on each races border. Norn vs Char etc
