Why does gold determine who a commander is.

Simply follow somebody and once there are X people following they get a tag while the follower count is large enough…

Make it percent based and allow 3 commanders per map.

Terrible idea. A lot of servers are using commander tags for scouts, who have no followers by definition.

Some wannabe commander can’t get people to follow him, so the obvious solution is to delete all commander tags. Right….

They removed 4/5 of my tags when they made it account bound, removing the last one wouldn’t bother me.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

If you contacted them you were refunded gold. I’m guessing you didn’t do that?

I contacted them twice but nothing happened, I wasn’t holding my breathe either I expected as much… My experience with this game has been nothing but wasted investment.. I had 2 volcanus when wardrobe was introduced (felt sorry for people with duel incin), lost 400g in tags from another change and nearly made a full ascended zerk set right as they nerfed crit damage lol

If you had more than three commander tags, you were refunded gold according to how many more tags you had that was not the first three. You either contacted them after the window where they were refunding (which was a large window), or you never had more than 3 tags.

It’s a decent gold sink thats why.

Also if you follow a commander either on TS, or team/map/squad chat, you can quickly tell if they are a good commander or not. We have one commander who is a great commander. He organizes whats going on, where, when, etc. (He can be a jerk, and I personally don’t care for him, but as a commander he is awesome.)
So if you don’t like them, don’t follow them. You’ll learn to recognize the good commanders from the bad, what the colors are for your server, and then having so many tags around won’t even bother you.

Well the first problem I see is how the game suppose to know who the “commander” is? By having X number of people following within Y distance behind? Ok but what happens if I start running ahead of the current commander, does it switch? That’ll cause problems. How are commanders suppose to pass command off to the next shift?

I’m mean, don’t get me wrong, I agree that it shouldn’t be simply bought with gold. Being rich doesn’t mean you make a good commander. There are plenty of people will tags who do bad at commanding. Some are even afraid to tag up. I know that half the zerg has tags (sometimes for fun everyone tags up all at once, yet when the current commander has to go and asks for someone to take over…crickets.

Yet I’ve followed people who were really good commanders but didn’t have a tag. We would form groups and each group would target him/her.

Not sure how they could implement some kind of trial or test though. Maybe it could work kinda like how you faced off against other players at the end of the tutorial in GW1. To get your tag you must get 9 other people willing to follow you and you face off against an opposing 10. Maybe just a small map consisting of 4 camps, 2 towers, and a keep. Have a 10 min timer. The side that has the most points at the end of the timer wins and that commander earns the badge. To make it fairer, the players are put into generic PvP gear.

Huh??? It’s account bound now so every character that had a tag, STILL has a tag. Now they even have one in a choice of 4 colors. The only negative is that you may have been do for a refund for one of them.

For the OP, how about an absolutely not to your suggestion.

Why does being followed by 10 kittens give you the right to tag up?
Why are there only 3 guilds allowed on your map to raid? (since tags are used a lot for guild raids)

Either you are new to wvw, or trolling, or usually play spvp, or play in a very low tier server.

It’s not uncommon on a BL on our server to have 6 or 8 tags showing in various colours ( we have a system for the colours), at least 2 or 3 of them don’t have followers but are scout locations.

In short, no thanks.

Yes WvW suffers because of commander tags.

Not having any means less people will be playing, and roaming/havoc groups will not have anything to visibly support.

But its not the tags or lack thereof that is the real problem. It’s the lack of a raid party like you see in all other MMO’s. There is no way to see “open” groups and join them. The “join squad” option does something I guess.. not many people know what. No raid groups or raid window is the real problem IMO.

Sorry if I’m not being clear. These "raid groups are guild groups " don’t get a raid party to join together. The max group size is 5; joining the squad does not let you see your squad on the map.

The norm for MMO’s is to have a group start a raid party..that is group 1. The raid leader can then invite other groups into that raid. Nomally you have a raid window that’s shows all the 5 man groups in the raid, and allows the raid leader to move people to different groups for class comp. Pretty basic MMO stuff really.

That being said: Ever tried asking in map/team chat "Looking for some other people to go small scale raiding

again there is no small scale raid or raid at all that’s just another player made Ideal. And yes I join roaming groups.. usually just get invites while solo roaming and finding other brave souls running around.

Oh LOL never actually played that one. Warhammer was my favorite their open group/open raid joining system works so well and the RvR was pretty great.

EQ/EQ2 was always better than WoW tho for PvE MMO. hehehehehehehe BETTER

There is this opposite: many expect the commander to be good. When the map has no commander and there is a group activity, I tag up so that more ppl can find us. I just mark the spot. But I’m learning… I carry sieges, start looking for next thing to do, place ram/catas. I also quickly tag off if the group was just roamers, and start escorting dollies etc basic stuff. At quiet times, we have taken as large as Bay and Hills.

So, when there is no commander, anyone is free to tag up and try commanding.

I also use tag to mark mesmers in SM. And mark my portal when I’m porting people to inside – I don’t hide in keeps nor in SM, but just regular portal pickups. Most often tag is useful if an incident needs more players and fast – and I explain the purpose of the new tag in the map chat.
