Whilst I actually quite like the new map it is just too large for the populations we have left in WvW. It might work as a rotation option for EB but as a borderland it is just far too large.

This map was much needed when asked for 2 years ago when we had a thriving WvW scene, but with neglect and limited advancements in 3 years the population has dwindled too much to support a map like this as a Borderland.

My suggest for now would be switch this as a rotation option for EB and bring back Alpine borders, while something a bit more suitable and smaller is created.

It’s not the map it’s the the number of servers that’s too large. Servers and matchups need to be more dynamic.

Should be able to join any server at any time as long as it isn’t full. If you want to keep gem sales as a part of it make it a mid-match penalty or something.

That’s ANET for you, always a bit behind in reacting to WvW needs like an overflow EotM map long after the game actually needed it. Their development cycle for WvW is such that they are constantly fixing last years problems and new maps take so darned long to put out anyways. I am looking forward to the big WvW patch next year that will fix the problems we had last spring. ><

The new map is very pretty and a lot of work must have gone into it. I am not sure if it would make a very good EB map or not given there isn’t really a central cap point unless the laser could be one. I agree we only need one copy of it in the current WvW landscape but I am not even sure ANET can think that far ahead.

My original hope when the new map was first announced was they would move a version of the EotM map into WvW since it can actually be pretty fun to fight on when not being used as a karma dispenser and have it take the EB central spot with the current EB map (edited version open field instead of SM), Alpine and Desert for Borderlands to have 3 unique flavored maps and players could go to the one that suits their play style tastes instead of mostly their own borderland for defense, the weakest borderland for offense and EB for pure zerging.

They should have just scrapped the whole border idea and instead created a new equal 3way map like EB, preferably 2 such maps.
That way it’s easy to scale the amount of maps according to server population.
Low tiers could be fine with only EB, higher tiers get an extra map, gold tier would possibly need 3 maps.
Things would sort of be similar to PS2.

Almost everybody agrees the new borderlands are too large and since they are almost like jumping puzzle-alike complex 3D design, traveling from A to B takes a long time.

I am afraid Arenanet will “fix” this problem by adding even more gimmicks to this map, giving us gliders, more jumping pads, skritt holes etc. I have a better solution to alleviate this problem:

Desert borderland should be scaled down by roughly 25%. In other words multiplying each X, Y and Z coordinate with 0.75. Of course one would need some hand tuning as well.

All the keeps should have a way point, while the two Southern towers don’t necessarily need way points.

WvW populations, though generally lower than at their peak earlier in the game’s history, are artificially low right now, not because of the new BL, but because of the new expansion content + halloween event. None of my WvW guilds are raiding in WvW right now, they’re all checking out the new content, leveling masteries, trying to unlock their specializations, etc.

Let’s wait until WvW populations return to their pre-expansion levels before proclaiming that the new map is too large.

Should only be one new map, not replicated x3 to replace the original borderland maps.

They should have replaced the new map with EBG, left the other 3 alone. Change those up for supply chain stuff so there is a reason to go there such has increasing the ruin buffs, or increase supply, something along those lines. The idea is to make them flow together and provide a reason to send 5 to 10 people to the smaller maps to take something that allows a buff or more supply to those working the center / larger map.

Instead you have a very large map x 3 that doesn’t feed into EBG at all. It is new, so you will get a few to go check it out. But once the novelty wears off it will be a ghost town just like the originals.

Personally if it was me I would have:

1. Kept original borderland maps
2. Make those the entry point for supply camps and egress into EBG
3. Replace EBG with new MAP
4. Grant egress into other servers borderlands via tower or castle portals

This forces people to pass through, take camps, and defend while heading into the new map. It forces people to take towers, castles, or other things to gain access to the borderland maps. Borderland maps is the supply chain that people are flowing through, new defenders, reinforcements, etc.

Stop their supply chain, delay them, and it goes from there. Just a thought.

While population of a given server is certainly an issue this “empty borderland feel” can no all be based on new maps and size.

EBG is the same map as it ever was and it was also empty relative to what it was before.

If one goes into EOTM it crawling with people. Why is this? Does this mean EOTM a better map?

I think it directly related to Hero points. In EOTM it is much easier to run up levels and get those hero points and people are hero poit short on a wealth of characters. Some find it just to difficult to get them on the new maps so they swarm to EOTM.

no i wanna keep eb though. i like eb. i hate the new map though its soooo complex and the keeps are not real keeps they are more like a giant weird maze….. i think we should get rid of it and put it as eotm 2 instead

Actually one of the new borderlands map would be enough for all 3 servers. Lets petition the old map back! This is no longer fun, makes me depressed. Especially at autumn, its not healthy for me.
