Blacktide got some new guilds for EU primetime, you havent seen much of us during the weekend since we were still settling in, but we’re now cooperating with the existing Blacktide guilds and pugs (who are both awesome and lovely) to put up a good fight.

I’m posting this from work. You’re posting screenshots of the game.

This evening is going to be fun! Happy that you have new guilds, hate matchups when one guild is far ahead. Top and second spot should be closely fought.

Maybe it’s just because of the time that I choose to play, but the only significant Blacktide presence I’ve ever seen has been the Russian guild [Xaoc].

I don’t like being treated as a second class citizen for not being in a big, hardcore guild, especially given that I’m in WvW almost every day (night).

As for why I’m not in a big, hardcore guild; been there, done that, not going to put up with that again.

You don’t have to be in a big hardcore guild to be taken seriously, but you can’t deny the value of a well coordinated team, and that having people listen in teamspeak is always going to be far better coordinated than trying to type in commands and hoping people actually notice them.

I know there are a number of smaller guilds in an alliance with iron, on Saturday for example on the AR borderlands, I remember there was a guild called haven who (from what I could tell) had a single player in the alliance teamspeak to listen out for orders and then coordinated among themselves to achieve them. They did a really nice job holding some towers and taking camps when they weren’t contributing directly to the larger force. As well as gaining the ability to call down the larger force if they are hit by a zerg larger than they can reasonably hope to hold.

Nobody is a second class citizen, but it is just a simple fact that the more you coordinate with the main force on a map, the more you are contributing.

All the new guilds that transferred to blacktide are mostly on gmt +2, not like xaoc that their gmt is around +3 to +10 (Maybe less maybe more, im not sure) , so yea this is prime time now.

[Xaoc] isn’t only one russian guild on Blacktide – there are a few small russian guilds too (I mean WWW presence).

Also we have an international branch of [Xaoc].

Of course, the main power of [Xaoc] is a large community of russian players. The most part of us live in GMT +3 timezone.

There were many interesting battles during these days vs Desolation – [Lion], [IRON] & [Ruin] looks very good and organised.

I’m not in a big guild either and yes have been there done that with massive alliances too. I have been the only player from my guild in Wv3. Mind that said there is only 3-4 of us max on any given time that go in anyway, but that by the by. And no way would i class my self as hard core either

I was not made to feel useless or thought of as an inferior race… When i called out for help its was there by the bucket load!

Its not about how much you contribute or how many hours you spend in Wx3 , it doesn’t matter if you spend 10 mins or 10 hours, if you kill 1 invader or 100 invaders.
At the end of the day if you are having fun doing it, that to me that all that matters…

Well I actually fear we meet Desolation again next week... our enemies have given up after the weekend and now we have 600+ at 4pm (which is a time where we don’t even have queues^^). Our actual points will boost us from 10 to 6, and I guess our loss in this week will drop us to 10 again^^.

Our enemies actually inniciated some kind of exodus, since they are all talking about leaving their server. Although this is our first match on the sunny side of WvW it is also the most boring one.

And well I guess you know the history of german wars, we are not good at this, and hence we only live in one single timezone (very unfortunate, that we didn’t even had a real nation at the time of colonization). Nasty americans have tons of towns like New Berlin, Bismarck or New Frankfurt but none of them speak german (well North and South Caroline have some german-speaking communities).

and if XAOC would have +12 they would be ozeanic^^ (or Vladiwostok, maybe it’s +10, Only New Zealand and the most eastern part of russia is +12). Even if Russia has a lot of timezones I guess you know that most of it consists of siberia. Not sure if they even have electricity their. So majority of russians, live in the european part of russia and this is GMT+3 (not sure, russia does not have Summertime, so it should be GMT+2 or +3 depending on the season).

I often see people use the term “random” but it’s just used as a way to generalise the people who aren’t recognisable. If that makes sense?

Like…if I’m talking to my friends I will say something like “There’s a bunch of IRON/RUIN/LOR/GG here” or I will say something like “there’s a bunch of randoms here”

It’s natural that those bigger guilds are going to make a name for themselves, doesn’t mean randoms are any less valued or anything.

On our old server, we called them “unafiliateds”, since most of them weren’t allied to the big alliances/guilds on the server, if you guys want to be politically correct… :p

I do notice smaller guilds though, for example in the Deso zerg we’ve been fighting, there’s consistently a lookout from the same guild. It doesn’t seem to make a difference, so it’s clearly not something organised by the zerg, but it does show some effort at least from that guild.

Hello proud people of Desolation. I am one of the guys who handles recruitment and i wouldn’t say we alienate people. Of the last month’s 100 something applications a total of 5 were declined for either not being able to be on TS during WvW sessions or demonstrated that they do not understand the english language enough to understand what we are asking of them.We are a guild of people who like to play WvW and openly welcome anyone who wishes to join us. We work with a ton of smaller guilds if you already have not realized this, and its not like its a closed group, all you have to do is get in contact with us.
Its okay if you don’t want to be in a huge WvW guild, join a smaller one. AA, LOR , SHC or JuG for example are relatively small guilds that play a huge part in WvW.
If you think Desolation has any hopes of winning without organisation you are wrong, horribly wrong. WvW isn’t a place to go and do whatever you feel like, that isn’t how games are won. And the moment we offer you the organisation the server has been longing for you turn around and start calling us elitist. Elitist for wanting you all to work together? If you don’t want to work together with other people go roll an alt and level or go play a single player game. You are hogging up the ques from people who would like to actually contribute and win.
If you want to win in WvW you have to work together. Here is your chance. Don’t throw it away. Stop this bickering, you have much more important things to do.

If you are running around disrupting their supply lines and generally annoying the enemy, then that is really appreciated, but you’re also going to be a bit under-appreciated because like you said, you like to go where we aren’t.

As for talking about “randoms” with disdain, that is pretty much entirely aimed towards the players who hang around anyone with a commander icon but make no effort to watch the team chat or even /say. For example at one point we were holding the garrison with a breached outer wall while trebbing one of the walls of a tower and being treb’d back. We had a ton of siege set up and a decent force and the enemy, despite some valiant efforts, weren’t able to get in. The right move was to hold the line till their wall fell and take out their treb and their tower. The problem was that no matter how often people typed not to, every so often someone would come along and repair our wall. This meant if we were pushing out to take down some enemy siege or just a little overextended, then some random could put up the wall, split our force and cause us to get wiped as well as force the enemy to group up until the wall falls back down, making it much easier for them to take the garrison. We managed to hold on in the end, though the enemy got close a couple of times.

A random isn’t a player from a different guild or a player that is contributing in a different way. A random (or rather the ones that people kitten about) is a player who will follow the main force but won’t follow the orders of the person leading that force. They make some tactics far more risky, like the situation above, and some impossible, like trying to run a group in stealth anywhere near an enemy guard point.

I think the funniest moment so far is when Desolation was attacking one of our towers and we responded to it. Just as we rushed through the entrance, Desolation capped the tower and the gates slammed shut behind us. We wiped the attackers from the lordroom, cleared the area and then set a bunch of thieves to work on the buffed up Tower Lord while we showered the little red sally gate in AoE.

I lost count of how many people we killed. It was a slaughter unlike any I’ve ever witnessed before. At one point it seemed the enemy was trying to kill us by drowning us in lootbags.

I looted my very first exotic drop too. Thanks guys.

tl;dr. Welcome RUIN/Ruin/ruin. And this week was awesome so far. I don’t really care for the overall points as long as the fighting is good and you see an overall strategy. And this week I finally see it (more or less successful) on all servers.

I mostly play on borderlands and rarely see larger groups of ruin players, it’s mostly IRON/GG/FG. The same bunch that was there the last weeks. Oh and never forget MI.

Heh, I was standing on that wall and some of my guildies got caught in exactly that way.

But yeah, I know what you mean. I just got annoyed after seeing people from big guilds describe randoms and pugs as worthless in map chat a couple day ago.

Desolation is mostly UK based so primetime starts about 5 or 6, don’t worry we’re on our way.

I have started seeing some IRON people, but no concentrated guild groups yet, at least not where we are

In my long history with RUIN, I believe this is the only community that’s ever been (mostly) happy about our presence. It feels weird.

Irons and Ruins are strong guys. But they are all that you server have.
No chance in tier1-2 with night servers.

Suck. I know how that feels, bro. It used to be like that on our old server as well.

Face it, on most servers puggies aren’t interested in good fights. They just want easy XP, loot and karma handouts. As soon as they have to put in effort, they bail. They only show up when you don’t need them.

Blacktide surprised me so much. Pug players are really willing to fight here. Must be that diehard Russian mentality.

Srsly, in Xaoc, there were 10-15 players that used this “bug”. In guild of 1500 members this is less then 1%.
Could you promise me, that less then 1% of total population of your server are re**rded.

I for one am enjoying this match up. Good teamwork from everyone I’ve seen and some great fights, would’ve lost Garrison same way we took it if not for a guildie coming back from a bio break seeing the inner gate being hammered and allowing us to stop it at a sliver of health left. If the rest of the week proves as fun I’m going to be very happy.

These last few days have seen people queued for 30 mins + to get into the Borderlands. It’s kinda sad to see a return of mindless zerging from us at Deso, at least when we were getting our butts kicked in the two previous weeks the only friendlies you would come across in WvW at least were dependable in a fight. I see so many terrible players now standing around the edges of small-medium sized battles not participating or worse running away when presented with a challenge.

Augury Rock players I have come across I tip my wizard hat to you, I often see you guys fighting horribly outnumbered but you still bring a fight, props to you. If its any consolation when we come across a group of yourselves and Blacktide fighting we save you untill last. Keep going Augury, though we have been at odds in the past I wish you the best in this map rotation.

Blacktide, well sorry to say it but your small scale pvp is horrible from my experience thus far. I have seen way too many groups made up purely of Thieves from Blacktide. Its cloak, run, attack, cloak, run and if you are ever lucky enough to get them down to low HP in a fight I often see them cloak and disconnect. Guy’s we play to fight, I am fine with dying and paying for repairs and you all want loot and badges the same as the rest of us. I am going to start using fraps from tomorrow onwards, if you are going to disconnect at least I will be able to shame the offending players on the forums.

I am enjoying this matchup. We were able to keep the lead during the better part of evening. We had the lead during the most primetime of Deso and AR. There were some awesome fights and thanks for the fun moments you have given us. Will to fight in blacktide is admirable, I liked my new home already
