[Discussion] The extra WvW ranks
I like that idea. Maybe this MF rank could apply to rank up chests too.
I always found it strange that high rank chests only give greens, especially with the effort it takes to reach a high WvW rank. A slight shift in the loot table (so that you at least get rare gear) would be nice…
i didn’t like the lootbag OS sharing as i don’t like anything that can give advantages to lootbag hunters for better loots

The OS farm is a problem in itself and should not exist in the first place. I just want to have some use for my rank points, since I spent lots of time to get them (I’m not very much into EotM, so it took a while). Since there are far more rank points to gain than you can use (regardless of the removal of some WvW masteries), a sink for them is never a bad idea… But I see your point.
since you got my point , i am sure devs have many ways to reward the old players with something that will satisfy them too with the new changes.
all this talk is feedback and think tank pool for them
MF sounds good.
Another thing would be to give the ability to unlock skins once you’re pas the max rank needed for all upgrades (which many of us who have spent a long time in wvw are…….)
For example, special wvw armors and weapon sets (and if you guys at Anet can’t have ideas for more wvw weapons or armors then ask the community, do a design contest like in gw1) or any other type of cool little things (but no mini until whatever dev team is responsible fixes the fact they don’t get stealthed while in a pvp map)

Love the basic idea of the suggestion, although it wouldn’t play out too smoothly.
It could make people invest in it instead of useful stuff, or if you could only “buy” it after everything is maxed, then when a new mastery comes out, that would make people lose MF (which is not a good feeling).
Instead they could just let you get +1% MF for every 50 ranks (or something) while in WvW.
Maybe you could exchange the extra points simply for gold, or something.
Why not just make it a currency that you can buy WvW stuff with?
We already have that with skill points. We can use them for all kinds of stuff. War Points are essentially the same thing. Use them to buy superior siege, or special mystic forge items to craft special WvW weapons or armor. Pretty much limitless possibilities if they’re made into a currency.
I sure don’t want more MF. We already get a ton of that from salvaging and ranking up our achievement points.
Seeing as we currently get nothing from excess ranks in WvW, I for one would settle for anything. Titles, unlocks to siege punchable, food/util purchases (not op food, just a no cost option) etc.
And I do realize that many many players farm EotM for ranks, but ANet can add things in to make WvW player’s lives easier without trivializing the ranks (even further than they have). IMO the proposed changes only benefit the newcomers and (once again) veterans are left out in the cold! OK, we get it you want to make the game new player friendly, but for kitten sakes how about some appreciation for those that have been with you for 1k days now.

….. And Elementalist.
I really like the suggested idea that once you cap out (or perhaps not even fully cap, but earn a very substantial amount of) ranks, you can use additional points to unlock exclusive skins. Adding even more to that, I love the suggestion for the ability to purchase siege and other WvW related consumables/materials would be excellent.
This sort of system gives something nice to work towards cosmetically for players of that type of lean, but also has a practical option for players that are not cosmetically driven and would rather use the rank points to get siege, and potentially other materials that assist them in their runs.
A potential problem with this: you could, in effect, grind the ranks from EotM if you only cared about getting those few exclusive rewards. While this might demean the effort put into playing WvW as opposed to karma training, I find the issue of separating and rewarding players who are putting genuine effort into their play versus those that only desire to meet the bare minimum for the reward rather difficult.
This was a problem with the WvW tournament in which players that completed a certain number of achievements were rewarded for the performance of their server as a result of this minimal level of participation. I don’t blame folks for feeling a bit sour about having placed a great deal of effort into helping their server, and receiving the same rewards as another player from their server that did not make a genuine effort to help. This sort of player (many point to these being PvErs) did not really care about their world’s placement; they only cared for the rewards that they got out of it for putting in the minimum effort to get them.
Another point of the discussion could be that; how do you make these hypothetical rank rewards meaningful in a similiar-ish fashion to the llamas from PvP? How would you suggest that a level of exclusivity gated behind some measure of genuine effort to help your server be implemented?

Which tournament do you mean, 2014 spring or fall?
The achievements in spring were a lot harder than in fall and I’m grateful that anet made the fall achievements so much easier.
Here’s why: I have been on the greatest server ever. We were chronically outnumbered and ranked up 7 ranks within 4 months. I can say that the people who have been around on that server back then were the best wvw players I’ve ever encountered.
Since we had a good place in our tier and since everybody wanted to have the mystforged weapons, tons of people transfered to our server. And they knew better as they came from a higher ranked server and you know, everything below one’s server is essentially potatos. So they were doing karma train 24/7 which hurt us as they were leading the public zerg but rather failed to cap the enemy keep than to defend our T3 towers. On top of that we got a zerg of AP hungry PvE players who ran around in their zerker gear and had no idea what to do.
Everybody who had been there before spring tournament was gone afterwards and I Ieft too.
I get your point, but it’s really difficult to reward wvw players without harming them
Yes, I can only imagine that it is one of the tougher game design challenges; designing systems that rewards players for their efforts well, while avoiding situations where those very systems are abused to a point of ruining the spirit of the activity you are trying to reward.
Conceptually it’s easy to come up with ideas on different things that could be put in that would encourage genuine effort and better play. Still, players will generally gravitate towards the path of least resistance when they are working towards a reward of some kind. It’s makes logical sense for them to do so; I figure that the average player, given they have limited playtime on any given day, will always want to make the most of it.
My main desire is for extra WvW rank points and badges to have a use beyond what is currently available.
WvW rank points:
- new WvW specific cosmetic items would be cool
- WvW magic find buff is better than nothing
- or combine extra rank points with the new skill point currency (HoT)
Badges:
- are a currency that can’t buy much of worth. I’d like to see
- obsidian shards
- jugs of WvW experience
- a better discount with laurel items
- purchase gear/weapons that are salvageable
- other stuff…

Buy siege and sell it on the TP or give it to your commander – I’m always in need of siege.
I get your point but that would mean that siege would become more expensive and as of now you need tons of them to properly play – 3-4 superior rams for reinforced gates, 6 superior ACs to defend something, trebs, catas, ballis, golems). If they’d increase the drops of siege (which they’ve already done – thanks for that anet!) it might work out.
But gaining ranks is already really easy, I don’t think we need another way to buy them.
I think they should just get rid of badges and implement reward tracks similar to what they do in PvP. As for extra rank points, maybe have lines for increased karma/gold/exp/MF gain but make them exponentially more expensive to get. Sort of like the MF you get from luck.

I like this idea too. Maybe then I could finally unlock some of the dungeon skins seeing as seldom set foot in them.
Before they make such junk decisions like turnign wvw rank points jusrt into another stupid currency, they should improve WvW first by addign alot more WvW Trait PROGRESSION.
Theres so much unused potential in WvW regarding WvW Traits, be it defensive WvW Traits for Camps, Towers, Keeps, Stonemist Castle, be it masteries for new Siege Weapons and expandign thsoe that we already have, cause some of them still lack a complete Skill Bar, like Cannons for example, having only 3 of 5 Weapon Skill Slots.
There are still at least 2 known masteries which haven’t been implemented yet (Assault Mastery and Reinforcement Mastery) plus theres with the new Desert Borderlands comming also new siege, with Shield generators, this screams naturally for a Shield Generator Mastery.
Then theres the great and awesome option with the help of class specific WvW traits to bring into the game alot more WvW progression for unspent rank points which would make WvW in itself alot more fun and interesiting, if Anet would give all classes via class speicifc WvW traits more individualism and class specific roles to the game mode, so that it actually makes also a DIFFERENCE, which class you play in WvW.
If you want to see WvW improved based only on rewards and a currency system.
Please, for gods sake, look into BADGES OF HONOR.
Thats the currency, that needs significant improvements, thats the currency, which you should use to unlock WvW special unique weapon and armor skins, wvw unique minipets, finishers and other visual fluff like back items, toys ect.
There needs to be a legendary weapon,s that you can earn only via WvW, because the precursor for it and the materials to make it can be earned only via WvW.
That woudl be the right long term motivating goals for WvW.
But just, hell no, don#t turn rank points into a stupid currency. Thats not the thing for what the wvw rank system was designed for to make out of it a currency, like silly Skill Points

You’re supposed to buy siege and traps with badges.

Ooo, that reminds me, I’d like to see superior siege be available for purchase with badges or badges + extra WvW ranks also.
And yes, I buy siege and traps already; there’s no reason more things can’t be made available as well.

I think it would be cool if those WvW percentages at the bottom of the WvW “general” tab, you should be able to add to those. These are things like magic find (as stated earlier) as well as some crafting bonuses and what not. These are currently stated as “server bonuses”, but they can now be rank bonuses.
I also think that bieng able to put points into getting much better loot from rank up chests. This has always been a problem. Giving better rewards to people with higher ranks…well… That is just what makes sense…
They can’t afford to do this because EotM karma train gives out too much WXP.
rank 10000=legendary of your choice. tadaaa!
[AVTR]
Isle of Kickaspenwood
MF and/or points in the new system what they introduce in hot
Just the WvW
R3200+
At the very least, please let us display our text rank (e.g. silver raider) as a title Anet.
rank 10000=legendary of your choice. tadaaa!
And actual WvW will have tumbleweed rolling through the center of SM.
However you may actually see a few fights (occasionally) in EotM with the huge influx of players.
At the very least, please let us display our text rank (e.g. silver raider) as a title Anet.
Or display older ranks to at least cut down some of the rank based commander snipe.
I guess I missed it, but do we know how many ranks it will take to max everything?
If it’s something everyone can do before they get out of bronze rank then yeah they need to put something in for the extras.

Rank 1390
Edit: That’s still silver legend, shortly before gold invader.

I would love it, if ANet would make it possible for us:
1) to see the ranks of our Allies as a kind of “Rank Symbol”, just like the World Exploration Globe Symbol for 100% World Exsploration, whe should see a Rank Symbol at the name of our Allies.
2) So the same for our enemies remove this crap mechanic, that shows ous the enemy ranks in text form.
When you fight against a zerg of like 50 players, all you see is red cause of the tons of rank names in text lines that totally screw up the performance of WvW are are also a huge reason why WvW lags so much for people.
Doesn’t Anet remember their game performance issues with crashing game clients from GW1 when people had options to create with certain skill combos so extreme much damage numbers to appear, that the game client wasn’t able to show them all and just freezed?? There was that case with some mesmer skills and also with R/Rit using splinter arrows with barrage, before Anet nerfed that combo…
This performance break in just happens, where theres simpyl way too much text (which also moves around in this case) in in the screen.
The game performance woudl be miuch better, when all that text would get simply reduced into Rank Symbols.
People would then simply know direcly from looking onto the symbols, which rank someone has.
WvW has 15 ranks and 7 Rank Tiers. So this means simply 15 Rank Symbols in 7 different Colors
Tier 1 = Blue
Tier 2 = Bronze
Tier 3 = Silver
Tier 4 = Gold
Tier 5 = Platin (Pale Yellow)
Tier 6 = Mithril (Pale Blue)
Tier 7 = Diamond (White with Black Outlining)
Rank 1 = Invader = Arrow Symbol
Rank 2 = Assaulter = 2 Arrows
Rank 3 = Raider = 3 Arrows
Rank 4 = Recruit = 1 Arrow with 1 Star above
Rank 5 = Scout = 2 Arrows with 1 Star above
Rank 6 = Soldier = 3 Arrows with 1 Star above
Rank 7 = Squire = 3 Arrows with 2 Stars above
Rank 8 = Footman = 3 Arrows with 3 Stars above
Rank 9 = Knight = 1 Big Star
Rank 10 = Major = 2 Big Stars
Rank 11 = Colonel = 3 Big Stars
Rank 12 = General = Laurel with 1 Star
Rank 13 = Veteran = Laurel with 2 Stars
Rank 14 = Champion = Laurel with 3 Stars
Rank 15 = Legend = 1 Big Star with Wings
So if I would see an enemy running around with a symbol at the name (generalized as “Enemy” that looks like a golden 3 big stars, then I would instantly know, that this enemy is a Gold Colonel and of a much higher rank, than if I would see an enemy with Blue 3 Arrows… at its name as Rank Symbol and the game would get a much better performance, due to now havign anymore an overwhelming text flood of ranks that have to be shown…
The ranks and the status of a player if enemy or not, should be shown to us only, when we mark a player with our mouse cursor. And they should be visible on the Minimap in general! That would help also to see fro mafar, if someone is an ally or not, without the game needign to flood us with tons of red texts on the screen.
I think the ranks are fine as it is: Enemy ranks don’t mean anything since EotM anymore anyway. My rank doesn’t mean anything as I’m a roamer and level up really slowly. And when running around with wvw beginners (small scale) I let them use the siege; it would be annoying if someone demanded anyone with a high rank should be the one to use it – people should have the chance to learn, unless it’s really critical.
Sometimes I do wish my rank was shown to my allies (I transfer a lot and people always assume I’m a rookie) but in the end that is rare. I also don’t think that the titles are the reason why I’m lagging.

They aren’t. To limit computer issues you’d have to turn most/all graphic settings down, which yuck, kudos to anyone that can stand doing that or have no choice.
A symbol would clutter it up just as much and bring it’s own set of issues.
Only if it would be automaticalyl ALWAYS be shown, just like the texts..
However, what I suggested is passive symbols, that you see only, when you mark a player with the mouse cursor, where they fuction just liek the world completion symbol.
its not somethign that you get shown always, you see it only, when you mark a player with your mouse cursor and passively when being in group in the group hud on the left side in form of a heart, if someone has done a map you play on to 100%
It would definetely improve the game performance, if the text masses would get reduced (or better, just only passively shown together with all enemies shown on the minimap as red dots as direct indicator if someone is an enemy or an ally, just like we see all allies as green dots.
The mechanics are already there, implemented with EotM and that detector turret thing that makes you see enemies on the minimap.
All Anet has to do is to implement the mechanic generally into WvW everywhere as general system to reduce the complete red text displays to literally 0
Text isn’t the issue with performance at all. Picking out people I can see being a problem now, but that wouldn’t help it at all. For people with low settings, the server name and rank is all they see now.
