Do you still feel server pride?
Nope, until there are paid transfers only, server forums and more information about our enemies in WvW (names, future WvW rank) I probably won’t.
My short answer is “yes.”
A server is just a server. Why would I have pride in it? It’s like a city. You can love it but don’t let it tie you down and leave if the need arises. There are other cities out there with their own benefits and problems, and don’t let complacency keep you from considering your other options.
I suppose it would depend on your perspective, but being in Borlis Pass and remembering the days of being in the bottom tier, I do take a little bit of pride moving up a couple tiers. Granted it’s just a game, win or lose I still have fun.

Been on my server since the start and saw it go through all its ups and downs. So yes.
I’m sure many from my server will echo my sentiments as well.
Nope, not at all, not because of loyalty but because i play for fun, winning comes second, i would much rather have fun losing a good server matchup then just dominate a server tier so hard that you have to spawn camp them for kills. People by nature want to win, i don’t mind winning but all it brings with it is possible bandwagon guilds, or players that starts to trash the other servers.
I’ve been on Blackgate since the head start, and been there for all the ups and downs in WvW. Yes, I do still have server pride. It’s my home team, and I do anything I can to help make the server better and win.

oh yes, alot of server pride. Piken Square, only medium population server beating heavy and full population servers world wide…
Been on Darkhaven since launch. Love it.
Yes.
Aurora Glade. They annoy me, but I love them.
I think Gladians have an edge over most servers when it comes to community. We have an excellent website, with a dedicated team, through which we are really starting to come together.
I have server pride in the community we are creating and the team work that is developing from this. It may take a few weeks more, but AG will begin to rise up the www table, and we are definately a server to watch
I’ve come to terms with the fact that WvW is a population game so I don’t care if we’re losing when we’re outnumbered. I still like to win though.

Sure GW2 is just a game. But the best MMOs are more than that.
Made some good friends on LOTRO over the years. And many RL friends are here with me in Tyria (once again). Making lots more through our die hard efforts to stop the WvW rot.
Pixel smashing is all well and good but it needs a reason. Server pride is a big part of that for me. And not letting down my friends, old and new.
Go Far Shiverpeaks!
I think they need to get rid of the anonymity of opponents in WvW…creating rivalries and knowing your opponents helps add to server pride. Nameless enemies are hurting the game IMO.
My dedication to my server and my guild have a hardened resolve.

As well as greatly reducing individual griefing. No player names is a necessary evil in my opinion, and being able to see guild tags is enough to create the required rivalry.

We can rarely get through a whole week without getting match threads closed. That leads me to believe there is a lot of server pride out there.

I wouldn’t call it realm pride like I would back in my DAoC days. But there is a certain comfort level I’ve gotten to on IoJ, recognizing commanders by name, that sort of thing. More of a being comfortable surrounded by familiarity than a feeling of belonging I guess.
Of course, with me moving to Blacktide a month after the game released. I just got it at that time and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the players and never left. So yes, I still have server pride.

Being on SBI from the very beginning, yes, there’s something like server pride.
I’d post more, but I have the strong feeling that it would stirr the moderator’s forum-server’s pride and will get deleted and earn me my monthly infraction achievement…

I’ve been on Fort Aspenwood since the first BWE, so yes I have server pride. It almost even feels like a second home to me. I don’t necessarily care if my server wins or loses so long as it’s fun. It’s always the best when there’s a challenge and you don’t know if you’ll end up first or last in your tier.
Server pride is a lil weird to me. I like Maguuma and all. But most of the is due to meeting people. I only rolled on Maguuma because I have friends from PWI who were already there before I got my new laptop.

This, sadly, seems to be the attitude of most gamers new to this style of PvP…… There are many of us though that remember the “Realm Pride” from DAoC and carry that attitude over to this game. (10 years only Hibby, btw ^.^ for King Lug!!!)
hibs where the only ones who had pride the rest where all “lacking” IRL
There aren’t real “servers” in this game. We all play on one giant server mainframe. There’s just designated maps for each server and the rest are overflowed when they fill up.

I love logging into wvw, and just running around with a group murdering all the things, taking whatever targets of opportunity present themselves, camping the jumping puzzles, or just generally playing for personal fun, rather than server victory.
Do you still care if your server wins? Why or why not?
Hey Soul, glad to see you guys are still out there playing somewhere and having fun. Was worried the threatened gear grind had you done with GW2. Just hang on to those badges, relief will be incoming soon enough.
The Jade Quarry Community was formed before release in the BWE’s in order to foster long lasting server pride so for most of us who have remained here through all the turmoil of the WvW ranking roller coaster with free and open transfers fight and die gladly in the name of our homeworld every nite.
So my answer is a resounding YES! I still have server pride and it is not going anywhere but no I don’t know always care if my server wins or not because to me winning is not everything. Win or lose, it is the enjoyment playing gives that matters most to me. I do not tie winning to pride in the least. Back in the beginning when the servers were so lopsided I had the least amount of fun winning in blowouts with spawn campers & queues so I actually prefer where we are today fighting tooth and nail in 3rd place with the outmanned buff.

A lot has changed since DAoC both in the gaming industry and the community of players as well.
With WvW obviously taking a back seat to most of the rest of the game with the player migration between servers and to other games do you still care if your server wins?

Never had and never will, I love WvW and I’ve been on CD since the pre-launch but I just don’t care about being loyal to a server, or whatever.
However I’m proud of my guild and what we stand for, and my characters and their accomplishments.

You can’t grief your own server. You can’t fight people on your own server except in sPvP. There’s no ganking. You are leveled up to 80 in PvP. You can’t see player names in WvW. It is server vs server so your server has to work together. There’s no raiding. There’s no ranking system. Gear is just for looks.

I still have a lot of pride for Dragonbrand.. but that doesn’t mean I care greatly whether we win or lose. A feeling of pride comes from the solidarity of those involved and a “never give up” attitude.
A general lack of pride is what severely damaged WvW, in my opinion. Instead of building a community and sticking by it through thick and thin, people were given the option to take the “easy way out” and jump around to winning servers whenever they felt like it. We’re still feeling the repercussions of that.
lionsarch.org
Yes. Absolutely. People still come out to WvW with little actual incentive since there is no progression. That has to tell you something.
I bleed for Blackgate and most of our server will say the same. There is a certain intangible feeling when your server name is your battle cry. Pride may be greater on the more active servers, but right now, it is the only thing keeping WvW going.

I’m on Vabbi and I think dedication is a better term for what I have for it.
We were doing decently in wvw until some of the bigger wvw guilds migrated and I think the sudden decrease in wvw ability caused some individual players to change server to one that was higher up as well. That whole attitude sickens me, jumping ship only makes the servers even more unbalanced.

You do realize that mainframes don’t really exist anymore right? I think you meant VM cluster, which is the much more likely scenario. Your character probably lives on several different SANs attached to a virtual LAN that encompasses a large number of individual servers racked and hosting VMs, with load balancing and active migration allowing for maximum uptime without neglecting maintenance.
Mainframes are just a single computational entity that serves out terminal connections over a network, similar idea, but fundamentally different, and severely less complex.

For the very first week after the launch, I kind of wondered which world I should go to, and went to many different worlds, including Far Shiverpeaks and Anvil Rock. Finally, a RL friend recommended Crystal Desert, and I have been with them ever since. I am a proud Crystal Desert WvW’er and I don’t regret anything.
As misplaced as it seems and having been on Desolation since BWE 1 I’ll say I have a lot of server pride, especially taking into account all the up’s and down’s and drama that has played out here. I agree with what everyone else has said in support of server pride.

With each transfer it lessens even more. I’d say a little, since Jade Quarry has a fine community, but I’m no longer really putting in those 48 hour shifts to defend our honour and take #1 anymore like I did back in the ET or even NS and FA days

We have terrible pay, rubbish loot, high overheads and people who ‘grind mobs’ have better gear… but think of the alternative conversations we would be having!
For example:
- Well I did COF path 1 in 24minutes!
- Noob! We did it in 22minutes!
- Har, I got so many points in spvp, we killed those 5 guys over and over
- kitteno look at them scrubs!
- I did fractals all weekend until I passed out from starvation, but I got 1000 butt-nuggets for my pink ring!
- Oh wow, show us your ring in /say!
This is the horrible fate that we face, if you leave wvw.
The intolerable mediocrity of your server being full of mob fondlers whacking away at staged encounters for shiny’s and putting up with pseudo-elitists hiding in the safety net of controlled combat without any repercussions or risk.
Do your bit today!
