Does anyone miss the old rivalries?
Server pride died when players left or get bought and defected to the big servers.
While I may sympathize with the plight of my fellow guesties it doesn’t mean I will stop targetting the guild tags and people I’m familiar with every chance I get, just as they haven’t stopped targetting me. I assure you, though the flag may be different, the rivalries are still alive and well.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
Server pride was always a bunch of horse kitten. Picking a server is mostly arbitrary and “wins” revolved around numbers and coverage 99% of the time. It remains one of the silliest concepts in an MMO. Pride in a system that only exists due to limitations in the gaming engine.
Guild pride in GvG was a thing for a while but ANet actively went out of their way for the longest time to run that style out of WvW. The guilds in WvW today are a watered down shadow of the guilds from 3 years ago.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
You mean the old rivalries where BG, JQ and SoR stayed in NA T1 over a year by recruiting/buying guilds from lower tiers, saying they had great communities and fights 24/7. And where they figured out if you logged in during OCX time that the server was open for transfer?
No, don’t miss it at all.
What I do miss is the hammertain meta.

Rivalries are fun when they’re done right. In GW2, I agree that it’s silly. In other games, I disagree.
Rivalry in DC Universe Online between Heroes and Villains was amazing. I loved the drive to kill the Hero players and how much I hated anyone who was a part of them. If a friend made a Hero I’d be like “ew, why?” good laughs. My time in DCUO was some of the fondest with any video game and the rivalries were a part of that.
Of course the “hate” wasn’t real but it was immersive and enjoyable. It made me feel more passionate about my choices and it’s something that I wouldn’t be against having in GW2.

Server Pride may come back eventually. But I have always had Guild Pride. And that is enough for me. We have plenty of other Guilds/Servers that target us. Which makes for great fights sometimes.
I miss match-up threads.

I don’t play WvW when my server is hosted by certain others. Just doesn’t feel right to help them win.

I feel your pain!
I tend to avoid server gossip, so I do not care.
However, an incentive system for server loyalty would be interesting.
I think I do miss many the old rivalries, they were often times of grudging respect
Server pride was very real for some players, and whilst it hasn’t totally died it is much diminished. I understand however that some players don’t understand the concept.
For me, server pride is about:
- working to keep my home BL the right colour, whatever the odds.
- responding to calls for help from other guilds, and being welcomed by them simply because we’re on the same team.
- running yaks and refreshing siege to have the BL ready for the next team when they come online.
It was also about the reputation we had as a server that just would not lie down and quit.
Winning was part of the fun, but the bigger reason for playing, for some of us at least, was to be there to support our server. It’s that warm fuzzy feeling when the next commander comes on and says “Hey! We’ve got waypoints!” and you know they stand a better chance because of your work.
Linking changed this because my server became a guest server and a lot of our identity has been lost; not least because matches are always referred to using the host server name however much support the guest servers provide.
BTW, I like the idea of an incentive for staying on the same server. I suggest a full set of Server specific Legendary armour for anyone who, like me, has more than 4 years on the same server

I like the way you think.
Sure do. It was one of the great things about the game for awhile.. You had servers who’d purchase groups like BG/JQ for years fight against servers like SoR/TC who mainly just had NA forces. RIP SoR though

This so much. i enjoyed others getting so bent out of shape with each other over silly things in a silly game. was more a reader than poster myself….
I do understand why it was removed, but I do think some cared less about wvw without this sub-forum…
