People do not bother to go to wvw just because the score is not in there favor the thing is who cares killing players is fun holding grudges on other servers because they out number you at a certain time does not mean you should stop playing wvw the more we work as a team the more success we have in winning ….

For server transfers, something like this might work:

You can put in a transfer request, but you can only physically transfer after the match is over.

Imo, it’s not so much the score that preventing people from coming out. It’s the 3 orb stat bonus the winning server usually has.

free transfers definitely sucks, been on desolation since day 1 and seen big ups and downs due to people transferring on and off. Needs to exclude people from current match and possibly next match when switching server. Transfers dont need to cost anything, they should just have some sensible wvw restriction applied.

Scoring does not server transfer absolutely do, no transfers=no fluctuating servers=over time servers get bracketted correctly=no huge score descrepancies

The free transfer’s off the server works in your favor. Because despite the fact that they are bailing the ship when the going gets rough, most of them will never come back, if you only care about winning then your server will never get ahead. Let the kittens who think it is the most important thing leave, you don’t need them anyways!

The receiving end of a free transfer (as server doing poorly) isn’t going to say much, because they’re tired of losing (sometimes, some servers don’t care like Devona’s Rest). The problem is, when these huge guilds that have a heavy WvW presence leave a server and literally leave a void after they’ve left which destroys that server’s morale amongst other things related to WvW.

The one week penalty for transferring is an idea that should hold if ever implemented, especially if they continue to allow free transfers. It isn’t the free transfers that are killing servers and scoring, it’s the voids and surpluses of guilds coming and going that are.

I think blaming server transfers is a red-herring.

3 weeks ago my server had an unbalanced battle. No queues, hardly anyone on the map.

2 week ago my server had a great close battle. Queues all week.

Last week, unbalanced battle. No queues, hardly anyone on the map.

This week, close battle. Queues are unmanagably long.

Server transfers have been blamed for our bad weeks. I don’t believe it. I think it’s more that when NA wvw wannabes see a lop-sided score, they give up early, don’t play…

It’s not that we had a bunch of players transfer in on Friday night, transfer out on Monday, then all come back the next Friday only this time to stay on the server all week, ditch the next week. That’s just so convoluted. It’s better explained by noting that NA quit trying when they feel they can’t win the match.

It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Free transfers willy nilly to any server are causing issues with rankings for sure.

My server is a perfect example. We were about to settle into T3 which would have been appropriate for my server. Then a whole bunch of guilds transfer to my server. We then proceed to spend the next two weeks stomping our way to the top. Has made for super boring matches with little to no fight from our opponents.

Now if A.Net did CONTROLLED free transfers then maybe they would get a balanced pop across servers then WvW would be able to balance it self out with appropriate rankings for each server.

Server transfers are an issue but I think they are a symptom and not the true problem. I think the problem is population imbalances, which are the primary motivator for server transfers (i.e. bandwagon effect).

If Anet fixed the outmanned buff so that you could still be competitive when facing a server that has round the clock coverage, then people would stop transferring to the server with full coverage. This is easily done by scaled stat buffs dependent on the population imbalance. In addition, I’d put it out there that people looking to farm more gold/karma/exp would then potentially transfer to the lower pop servers since they’d be able to kill more peeps. Over time, populations eventually smooth out and strategy-based WvWvW could begin.

Right now WvW just ends up with one team dominating then there isn’t much to do until the next match up. This is a game breaking problem that should been addressed by now. Are the devs even playing WvW? I wonder myself.

Yes they are, some of the HoD TA guys were telling us stories about fighting them while they went undefeated.

WvW is at its best when the scores are close. Scores are close when match-ups are appropriate. Match-ups are appropriate when the populations in a bracket are similar (number, skill, hours of operation). Populations in a bracket are similar when there is not a large flux of players. There is not a large flux of players when there are no free server transfers.

The logical deduction is therefore: WvW is at its best when there are no free server transfers.

If you want a scoring system that matches equally strong servers (or as close as possible) together then you cannot keep free-transfers.

Because these transfers lead to a massive shift in power on a day to day basis. Servers that are scaled in at the lowest tiers could get a nightcapping guild and suddenly dominate everything for weeks to come before they get to a tier where they can actually, and effectively, be fought.

Or when an otherwise decent server gets stomped by another, for whatever reason, masses can abandon ship freely. Causing that realm to go into a freefall to the bottom.

People don’t switch servers as much as they just don’t play when there is a bad match-up. The root of the problem is server populations and how the differences at certain times effect the match-up. One side is able to gain a score advantage and significant increase in power with orbs and upgrades based solely on the fact that they have players on at a certain time of the day. If you used queue’s as a measure of whether people like this structure or not, you see a majority of the people do not like it when it happens to them.

Until they balance it toward a majority of the playerbase rather than the minority, this problem will always exist. People just aren’t going to play if it isn’t fair. It happens in every MMO. In other MMOs, it is gear and levels. This one is server population.
