Just putting it out there that piken square are tanking there score in order to get into silver league. We shouldnt let this happen because;

1. it will create imbalance in the silver league with piken simply steam rolling the tournie.
2. one server will be pushed up to and summarily executed in gold league.

what can be done to stop it.
1. who ever is fighting piken before the tournie starts simply needs to tank there world score. I.E dont cap piken stuff and dont stop them capping your stuff. this will push there score back up.

2. Deso and Gunnars need to make sure to tank there score in all games played before the tournament in order to prevent Piken from swapping one of them out even if they are not fighting against piken.

IN THE FUTURE ARENANET SHOULD REALLY LOCK THE LADDER’S THE MINUTE A LEAGUE IS ANNOUNCED IN ORDER TO PRESERVE FAIR PLAY. A DEVELOPER RESPONSE ON THIS BLATANT ABUSE OF A LOOP HOLE IN THE TOURNAMENT SYSTEM WOULD BE LOVELY.

Welcome to the wonderful world where server overall ranking determines individual reward.
Has got to be the dumbest idea i’ve seen in quite a while.

Players are litterally told they will get a better reward for stacking on a server, rather than spreading out. And servers that arent in tier1 are told theyd be best off playing dead to drop as low as possible, to hopefully get an easier matchup.

And thats all before the tournament even begins, cant wait to see what levels of cheating, hacking and exploiting people will go to.

Why the heck are rewards that relevant? They are nothing special. To be honest having fun (a fair fight) is a much better goal to have. Having weeks on end of no wvw fun because enemies can’t put up a fight or simply don’t show up is anything but enjoyable.

Countless months of forum whinging has seen to it that it will (supposedly) be worthwhile switching to the top server for the duration of the tournament.

You wrong, Piken is not doing anything on purpose.

1. Many guilds have left pike ( some where the backbone of the server, I’m not gonna say names )

2. After season 1 the server slowly started its decline, before season 1 started everyone could join piken for free ( untill it was labeled very high pop ), this ment that a lot of pugs joined our server, those people are already somewhere else like SFR/FS/Deso/GH/ecc..

As much as I hate servers tanking down, i think Piken is a genuine case that they have lost guilds/players and will probably end up on par with the top 3 in silver league not stomping everyone in it.

After S1, there was indeed talks among a lot of people about wanting to drop tier so we wouldn’t face against vizunah/SFR week after week. However this way of thinking has possibly resulted now in lots of players growing bored and thus leaving PS. Numbers were low etc. I personally care more about fights, but I don’t intend to intentionally lose.

However, more recently, our activity and morale is picking up again. I think the mentality of ‘dropping tier’ has almost disappeared, so you can give us your best and we’ll respond in kind!

On a side note. Really fun fights against you guys from [KISS] and [SLAY] last night. Hats off to your pink-haired charr commander.

I understand Piken preferring to be in silver league, they will have a bad time of it in gold.

But Deso, is a real disappointment they tanked into silver league for the 1st season to win it. Deso is a server with by far the most Europeon players in the top tiers of sPvP and also was the 1st to kill the 3 headed wurm in the world. They have loads of excellent players. If they tried they could easily get 3rd in gold league.

Very disappointing to see Deso not up to the challenge of Europeon gold league in the 2nd season.

sPvP players spend their play-time in sPvP, worm-killer spend their play-time in PvE.
Maybe not one of them like 24/7 hour matches and isn’t interested et al in WvW.
Maybe some of them are achievement hunters, but now achievement hunter can hunt them in EotM.

I do not see any reason to believe that non-WvW players will be very helpful in WvW during the season. Remember, helpful in the WvW-coverage war means playing all day and night and not build a queue that hinders dedicated WvW-player to join in prime-time.

Deso and/or Piken are where they are (in case of Piken heading due to losses) since month, i.e. longer than the 2nd season was announced. Deso was only up to 7 as Jade and Baruch had a burn-out after league 1, now that they are back to play Deso/Piken are back to 9/10, maybe they both make it to silver, but that’s not really far from their place. And I think it’s understandable that you try to tank from 9 to 10

Who want’s to be crushed at rank 9 or 18, if there is a juicy 10 or 19 close by

If they are tanking their score, which is doubtful, I don’t care – Let them into Silver league. I would rather have a Match-up against Piken for 8 weeks than any other server with the good guilds they have to fight against.

The rewards can be earnt from other positions than 1st.

I’d rather have Piken than Deso anyday.

Let’s just all watch the rankings carefully, and see who convieniently drops to be top of the league below, shall we? It’s not like this ever happened before… cough cough Deso cough. It’ll be interesting to see if ANet picks up on it the second time around.

Before you even suggest that anyone is tanking you should know what you are talking about. Deso is not tanking, we’ve had EotM and LS upates which our population has decided to do instead., even Gunnar’s beat us to 2nd place a couple of weeks ago!

We do usually play for PPT because we don’t have that many Guilds as many other Servers which you may notice during Prime Time and many of us have Server Pride through the times when we lost so many of our WvW Guilds. We do want to have good fights though!

Right now Deso is between the Gold and Silver Leagues ranks where we belong, it’s also because of the matchups we’ve been drawn and thus the rating points we can gain/lose fluctuates.

I’m from Piken and I guess a lot of us would prefer playing in silver league. Gold blobbing was unbearable (however, kudos to viz for doing a great job at the ppt game) so I took a vacation on FSP during league 1.

It’s the system that is flawed. If you’re slightly above or under the “break point” for the brackets, the league basically cuts off half of the most balanced fights. That’s crap imo. Why would you do such a thing and then even give rewards for “performance”?

Originally wanted to write more about this, but I guess it would not have been constructive. Just let me tell you that I am very disappointed with this design decision. We already know which servers do best point-wise. This system seems to favor 3 servers over 4 others, not based on their performance, but on their current overall rank. (1-3 good , 4-7 bad , 8-10 good , 11-14 bad and so on).

I just hope the income of all the transfers will benefit the wvw server infrastructure.

(Forgive the wrong rank numbers, I didn’t know exactly what the bracket size was going to be back then, thought 7 would be the total size of a bracket, 4-7 etc. being the last ranks)

See the bold part. One didn’t have to be a genius to guess what’s going to happen. Seems like ANet’s doing the same mistake again. Why not just implement an meta achievement without a new season which just inhibits balanced matchups (again)?

You are partly right. But weather Piken is tanking due to the fact that there server is not as good as it was due to guilds leaving or if they really are artificially lowering there score. No one can tell. As such i am going to leave the topic title as such for now due to the fact that piken is still tanking weather it be intentional or otherwise. The issue is Anet need to lock the ladder rankings when they announce a league so as to avoid this farce in the first place. Tournament formats should always be separated by performance with no exploiting or rigging involved as we can see here from all over the WVW ladder.

I’m a old Underworld player but few weeks before the first season started we realized there that we would be in silver league at that point and we were 18th so last in silver. We tried during that time to drop 1 rank but the difference was back then to high for UW to get a rank lower and many guilds left UW the first season. If i take a look at where UW now is i see them on rank 25 while they were 18 few months ago and on that tier you don’t drop that fast.

What i want to say with this is that 1 rank difference in this case 9th or 10th can make a huge difference for the future of the server. I also see that piken is already 9th for some weeks and that actually the last time piken faced deso and GH (weeks 1 and 2) they lost against them and that’s already like 2 months ago so something could have told you there that they were not really directly going for lower rank but that they couldn’t do any better at that point and for what i see now it’s still the same as back then

I think Deso blob is good enough to play in gold

Winning in gold is simply a matter of coverage. Piken just doesn’t have the night coverage or raw population that is needed for gold league.

I have always believed that piken should be high in silver rather than trying to punch above its weight in the gold league. Season one was just exhausting and for no real reward, so I would much rather have a reasonable chance of victory without having to stay up to silly hours of the night and so on, like we all had to.

Lmao, you think spvpers and pvers that can kill wurm mean deso has a great wvw force? I would also like to point out that deso is winning it’s current match up, not something a server trying to tank would do =p

But when these wurm killers hear that they get reward if server win deso have queue every map 24/7.

Its funny there’s 3 servers and they all don’t wants to be in the Gold League on EU. Not Deso, not Piken & not Gunners.
But as far as i can tell the fights we have in this match up are what to expect from Piken and Deso.
So i don’t really see 1 Server making sure they lose this match up.

My opinion(based on this matchup):
Cover wise Deso should be in gold.
Strength wise Piken should be in gold.
