This thread points out observed issues and recommendations from WVW players. (And with 10,518 hours played (most of it in pvp and WvW), I might have spoke to more than 5 people … that and no life as well .)
ISSUE 1: Legacy Week long scoring system rewards server groups that can put up 24 hour coverage and to those who can not, it demoralizes the Friday-Sunday WvW players who put in time and have no capacity to fill any remaining hours during the week.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Revamped WVW with cross server realms to plus up low population and give low tier someone to play with. (was good improvement but does not fully address issue 1.)
RECOMMENDATION 1: Forget the week long point system, no one cares who is in first place – provide a 24 or 4 hour map scoring system. People like to wvw for a time and feel they did something – they don’t want to put in major effort just to watch it disappear because no OCX or EU players on an NA server (for example) to plus up the shortages.
HOW TO:
- Provide same system of cross server, only make 7 events (1 for each 24hour period) to provide an overall score over the course of a month.
- At the end of the month, REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to. Why?
- Because time spent in WVW results in roughly a 40-75% decrease in gold and loots available to pve players (FACT) and…
- It allows those who play on certain days and certain times to GROUP with friends and achieve something rather than joining a map with unknown people, pick-up-groups (PUGs), and/or blob that just roam and kill any momentum or excitement (ie.g they make wvw a grind).
ISSUE 2: There hasn’t been any weekly or WvW tournaments to speak of in roughly 2 years. Hence a preeminent reason why no one cares about place (1st or 16th) or even going to WvW. There is no bang for the buck, no reward for the time, no reason for the season.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Promised WvW seasons but, for reasons not fully appreciated or understood by the player community, no Tournaments.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Provide an out of server Tournament Map and allow map to que join to open or player loss to close (no rezzing is one of my favorites but not the community’s).
HOW TO:
- Make a new map (a la ETOM) and create a LFR queuing system to join.
- Use a tried and true WvW(vW) matching system (a la Alterac Valley from WoW) whihc allows players to join a map in their server group. That map will only launch with 75% fill of all three teams (so larger than 40 for the map would be foolish). The map will also announce a closing-in-15-min if one team falls to 33% because one or two teams are making it impossible to win or the game is simply lame for various reasons.
- At the end of the match (tournament), REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to.
ISSUE 3: PvP fights are better (because of 5v5 and not 30 v 6). PvP fights are faster and more aggressive because of a point-kill-capture and timer scoring systems – both of which are non existent in WvW.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Provided a more robust community in WvW with cross servers but this still does not mitigate the 40 man blob sweeping every tower and keep in 30 min v a server group who is runing 40 people at 10 each map.
RECOMMENDATION 1: None – open to suggestions (my only input is a queing system (see issue 2 above) that keeps WvW active and alive, rather than a zerg grind fest it has truly become.
