EOTM: An Insane Idea
Most Servers already have trouble filling 4 maps if you just add a 5th …
Maybe with a radical server merge as proposed in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/The-Nightwatch-Issue/3857278
Lulz. That’s Devon Carver’s personal baby. You don’t think we’re going to put our fingers on it, didja?

By keeping the competition within limited maps it keeps it somewhat fair. Now we all know there is already issues with population and coverage differences, but at least there is a limit on how many players can be doing it at once. If EoTM was available, then the servers who fail to hit the cap will simply be at a bigger disadvantage.
Some servers can’t fill EBG, and some can fill all 4 maps…
Allowing another map to count for PPT would just make it so the difference between low WvW population servers and high WvW population servers is increased.
Plus, we all know the buffs from EoTM are not fair. When red was where green is, red won most of the matches. Now that green is there, green wins most of the matches…
Which means PPT from EoTM would favour green which is, most of the time, the server that has the most chances to win it’s MU, according to the way colors are assigned.
So, allowing EoTM to count in score, would just screw PPT even more than it is already…
The server imbalance is what I what I felt would be addressed by having high pop servers coupled with lower populated ones. Perhaps it would never be truly balanced, but having servers coupled by more than last week’s finish might help. If “green” always wins, perhaps that’s because servers are now coupled by the previous week’s finish…so, all 1st place finishers are put together exacerbating the problem. Anet has the data to look at that more intelligently than I do and could surely find a way to even the numbers somewhat.
In addition, I think how a color finishes depends a lot on which commander’s on the map. Commanders who are focused only on karma hunting never pay attention to the score. I’ve seen others, from lower tier servers, who obliterate the map by going for objectives and playing defense when needed. Clearly it’s not the server reward that motivates them and their zergs.
Of course, as I mentioned, I don’t think my ideas are anywhere near something useable at this point; they’re just conversation starters.
I’d very much like to see EOTM tweaked to be more fun. But I’d rather it be more about the current battle than incorporating it into the WvW situation. In that I mean, give winning that round of EOTM a bigger bonus rather than making it affect WvW. Heck, they could simply embrace the fact that it’s a giant karma train and give a big bonus karma reward for the winning team. That could potentially make people want to win if it was large enough.
Or put in ticks, with a karma bonus to whoever is top during the tick. So defending that tower may be worthwhile even if only for a couple mins to get the tick bonus.
/shrug, I guess my point is simply, I’d like to see EOTM become a side game, where it’s shorter rounds of WvW fighting. To do that you’d need a system that gives rewards for winning that is worth going after.
@Jerus…Nice! I like your thinking. It IS a wvw zone and would be great if people actually did some fighting there. Perhaps “baby-steps” are the way to go.
Terrible idea. EoTM is a karma train because it’s not fun. Why force it on people by making it part of WvW?
