EOTM and Duels..
Pay it no mind. No matter how many placed Anet adds specifically to cater to dueling (That room in obsidian sanctum, guild arenas, custom pvp servers) people will insist on creating dueling areas and get mad that you’re playing the game as intended.
If you can stomp all over people dueling at this point in the game, you should. Anet has been more than cordial to these people, and they have many MANY options for places to duel where they’re not actually getting in people’s way.

People use EotM because they’re not limited to players in their current (possibly dead) matchup.
That said, I have no idea where the needle is (don’t go there much). Is that the NE, NW or south tower?

Oddly ANet has completely ignored the most requested dueling option… the ability to invite another player to a duel which should include friendly players if they have an “Allow Duel Requests” option turned on.

That would require actual work, building the UI, the dueling rules, etc. The steps they have taken were the bare minimum effort for a feature that is, quite frankly, not at all important to any part of the design so it kinda makes sense. If I were in charge I wouldn’t want to stick an engineer on putting together a dueling system when no part of the game incentivized or rewards dueling, and I could put that same engineer on improving wvw, or pvp, or pve play that the game is actually built around.
Why would they invest all that time and effort when they can just give people a reasonable place to do the thing they are already doing? I mean, they built a whole guild hall decoration system and couldn’t even be bothered to write sittable chairs. They’re always going on about how limited their resources are and such. Quite frankly the only reason they but that arena in OS was to stop the GvG crowd from screwing up proper WvW anyway.
They’ve already got two modes of PvP that are actually part of the advertised package that have all sorts of popularity and population issues, adding another mode just seems… irresponsible. I mean they built a whole league system and did this whole paid tournament system just to get people to play spvp, and that hasn’t done its job all that well.
Adding another system at the expense of the existing ones that they’re still trying to fix doesn’t make a lot of sense.

They have already done most of the work. They have the arena which is what I would use since that work is already done. The interface is very basic: one option to accept duel requests in setup, a right click option to invite and a Yes/No do you want to duel confirmation. They have already done most of the work. It could be expanded on later if the feature proved popular enough.
This change is a great feature allowing players to test out builds with friends. As it is right now, numerous guilds run accounts on multiple servers just so they can duel each other.

The arena already does all of those things though. Guy A enters on blue. Guy B enters on red. It also doesn’t care what server you’re on. Just get in a group with someone already in the hall, done. That’s what we use ours for anyway.
The only thing it doesn’t do is let you have that match in parts of the game built for other stuff, like wvw or pvp.

As noted it doesn’t honor non-sPvP builds. Also, players have to go to an entirely different portion of the game to fight each other which makes it exceedingly difficult to get pickup fights especially across servers. There used to be a token cost as well.
The biggest deal IMO is that accessing it is simply not user friendly. My suggestion is to use what they built and simply allow players direct access to that area without having to jump through a bunch of hoops. They already have the infrastructure and it isn’t like I am the first or even 100th player to request this.

Uh, no. Guild hall arenas use PvE/wvw stats, not PvP stats, and you can teleport to them with a single click. It’s actually faster to get the a guild’s arena from anywhere in the world than it is to get to any of the various dueling grounds in wvw. There’s even a waypoint right on top of it. Click “go to hall” then click “arena waypoint”
If that many people can pile in to EOTM, I don’t understand why that “fight club” can’t just pile in to a cheap guild hall and use the arena?

Please disrupt duels whenever possible. When they are not “dueling” they are flipping camps and ganking strays. They don’t deserve the courtesy of being left alone to duel In peace. There are other places they can go and duel and not be bothered or bother people playing the game it was intended to be played.
Funny thing is…I am part of that “zerg” that always kills the duelers. If you want to duel go do a 1vs1 in the pvp arena. EoTM is meant for huge parties of people either doing massive PvP or doing objectives. It is not meant for your stupid duels. Every time I see you people dueling in that area, I will lead the zerg straight to you to be annihilated. Sorry, but not sorry.
When they are not “dueling” they are flipping camps and ganking strays.
So stop them duelling so they go back to .. flipping camps and ganking strays? /logic

Love it when people duel in high traffic areas and complain about being interrupted.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.

They kinda kittened up Obsidian Sanctum for duellers recently, with that spawn re-location.
A few things.
Duelling is spontanious. Very rarely do you plan to duel. Most times, it just happens when you either meet someone who’s looking to have friendly practice or someone who ///// respects your skill/you respect theirs and want to mess around together. Often times you won’t even speak with the person other than sometimes whispering them to type “r” for “ready.” Between the spontaniety and little communication besides body language, this usually causes duels to happen in strange places. Most people who enjoy duels know of the common places however and try to keep their antics refined to said areas.
EOTM next to the Needle generator is a poor place but like many of the other duelling areas, it’s where it is so that others can see it and join. It can’t be too far out of the way or no one new will join and it can’t be too in the open or you’ll face getting run over by zergs constantly. In EOTM, there are very few places that meet the criteria needed to welcome more duellers without being directly in the path of a zerg. EOTM zergs tend to cover just about every inch of the map, I know this because I command there a fair bit.
That said, the duellers in EOTM are often pretty hostile. Although I don’t like when zergs intentionally run through duelling groups, it doesn’t bother me nearly as much when it’s in EOTM. Those duellers will usually gank stragglers and that’s not what a dueller should be doing.
Duels happen and that’s a fact of WvW life. Some people enjoy that kind of sportsmanship and opportunity to hone their skills. Purposefully going out of your way to interrupt it is as rude as it is for the duellers to berate you for doing so. It’s a free country, leave the duelists to do as they please and they’ll leave you to do as you please. No one hurts anyone.
And for anyone who wants to complain that they “take up space”, there are plenty of people who AFK at waypoints that are being less active than the duelists. Not only that, but most duelling circles only last for an hour or so. They might take up space in a Q but it’s rare that a group of duellers exceeds 10 people so I’d hardly call it significant enough to warrant chasing them off the map.
I don’t often duel myself but I enjoy watching them. I don’t see the harm in practicing where builds are more diverse and the environment is more unforgiving. The only time any issues come of it are when someone starts to complain about it which unfortunately happens just about every single kitten time. People just can’t let them do their thing without sticking their noses in it.
EDIT: Also about the inviting someone to your guild arena; that’s not always an option nor is it terribly appealing. You might enjoy fighting the people you’re fighting but you’re not always on the greatest terms with these people. It’d be like inviting someone in to your house after they break your nose and key your car. You probably want to keep your squabbles in a less personal space, as friendly as the competition might otherwise be. And again, duels are often spontanious and want others to join. If you go to a duelling arena in your guild hall, no one else can just stroll by and decide to join.
People are always gonna cry about it but the duellers are only going to be rude about the interruptions until people stop interrupting them. It’s not a hard concept to grasp. Leave each other alone. Most duellers with the exception of the aggressive circles in EOTM don’t hurt anyone who doesn’t hurt them.

Logic is simple really. Kill the enemy every chance you get. Is that plain enough for you to understand?

If I have to stop interrupting duels so duelers will stop being rude then I guess duelers will always be rude to me LOL. Dueling is not as spontaneous as you say so you’re either a liar or just don’t know what you’re talking about. Go to the front of SMC sometime. I see the same dorks hanging out there on a regular basis. “STOP DUEL”….you know what I say to that? LOL

Uh huh… I don’t doubt that I know what I’m talking about. But the salt in you tells me you might want to start doubting yourself.
