I agree, but anet says commander tag is a huge gold sink, and from my experience in other MMO’s where economy is horrible, i see it is working well for gw2

maybe, but having a visible-to-all tag would still have its value even with a follow option, right? I mean the /follow doesn’t work if you enter a map and have no idea where to go or where anyone is.
Yep, Guild groups/organized teams would love your idea and so do I
Maybe a ‘guild only’ tag for lets say half the price of a real commander tag, I myself would definitely buy it
This idea should be supported. Anet doesn’t seem to be in the habit of listening to good ideas lately and are especially bad at putting them into game in a reasonable time however.
BIG Plus One on this idea.
Great idea especially for us rag tag skirmish teams that like to call target AND see our party leader at the same time. They could even limit it to X amount of players so the existing commander system isn’t busted.

the problem would be: since anyone can join anyone else, you could still not run as a guild group without people seeing you hence following you.
that is the reason why on my server guild groups don’t use commander symbol. So if everyone can see where I’m about through right-clicking on me, there would not be any privacy for guild groups at all

You have the wrong idea. There are many such things you describe that would be absolutely great additions to the game, but which would have nothing to do with Anet’s plan to make money with this game.
Anet is not here to make you a great game. Anet is here to use and manipulate their playerbase in order to make money. It’s only when there’s severe downfall in sales or major population leaving the game that they start to listen player suggestions, such as the one that makes wxp ranks account-bound. The reason we had wxp ranks in the first place is for players to get hooked to playing WvW for the grind. It is very dull experience to be part of zergtrain claiming undefended objectives but hey at least the progress bar is moving.

no more so than now…
its not like youd have to actively announce your groups presence when you use this command… and it keeps your group leader incognito while still granting your followers the luxury of a visible magnet.

Option A: Ctrl + click on someone. Done.
Option B: Ctrl + T while having the character selected. Done.
Doesn’t seem so hard to me.
(yes, I know you lose targeting, BUT you’ll probably have some voice communication on those situation and therefore you can literally call the target, plus with more than 5 people you’ve already lost targeting)
Priority should be having the commander functionality reworked completely, having more tools for commanders that could be useful.

/follow was abused by bots in WoW to the max, and im so happy this function doesnt exist in this game, i already imagine shaking them off while running around.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.

Except most skirmish groups would rather use call targeting enemies over allies even with voice chat active. Also because of party size limits skirmish teams over 5 have difficulty staying together in fights. Another huge upside is that the code required to implement this change is probably very minor and much less work than even a light overhaul of the current tag system. This change could be a workable stop gap to a larger one down the road.

His version does not include an automatic following of the leader only flagging them so they can be seen like a commander.

Was really hoping to see some changes to the C&S system with the “WvW patch”. But nothing… I just wish this would become a priority for Anet.

Maybe instead of “follow” I should have used a different word. Just a way to mark a person on your screen and map is all.
The issue with targeting is A) can’t see it on map and it’s red and gets easily lost in battle among all the red names etc. There’s a reason commander tags are blue and enemy tags are red. Red is a bad color to use to mark a battle leader.
A guild-specific commander tag is an AMAZING idea. Ghetto tagging works but a lot of times particle effects, AoEs, skill animations and other things get in the way from me seeing the little red target, and sometimes I do lose target entirely. Also, I often don’t pay much attention to what’s going on in my screen. If I’m trying to get organized and situated on my commander, a lot of times I will look at my mini-map — not my actual screen — to do so. Love that idea!
I’d like to see different options for tags. I love the idea of a “guild only” tag since many guilds like to run tagless. I’d like to see different color tags too. Right now, if there’s multiple blue tacos running around, people are screaming to tag down. I was thinking red tag for offensive zerg. Blue for defense. Green for havoc. Knowing who all is on the map and what they’re doing is very helpful. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be interested in adding raid frames for multiple groups of 5, but if you could at least see the dots for your squad, that would be an improvement.
Still needed…. still not a priority it seems.
