Easy solution for night capping?

Even if Anet dont recognize that there is a problem with night capping in WvWvW a lot of people have a problem with it in their current incarnation.

The key for me at least are a couple of points:
- WvWvW maps is to fight versus other players, PvDoor haven’t a place there.
- Everyone could play whatever they want.

Now if you take a Keep you gain for example 1500 karma and 10 points each tick while you hold it, if the keeps is defended by 30 defenders, siegue, is reinforced and you need three hours to took it you gain the same that you would gain if you took it at 3am and the only defender is the door.

But of course if you want to play at 3am you must be able to do it, but the reward from playing at that hour without any enemy need to be lesser that the one you get from playing against real defenders.

The solution:

The points (karma, gold, points per tic, etc…) must be tailored against the actual fighting the objetive you took or defend had, for example:

Attacking a keep have a base reward of 100 karma and that is adjusted with a serie of factors, for example 2% more with each defender death from the time the keep is contested till it fall or is sucessfully defended, an aditional x1/4 for each reinforced step the keep have, and it adjusted with the current population ratio in the map (4 to 1 to you?, you only get a 25% total reward, 1 to 2 to you? you get a 200% reward)… if you took a lv2 keep from 50 defenders you would get thousands of points, if you took in undefended with a 10 to 1 population ratio, then you would get 10 points or whatever…

And for the realm points you would get a large influx of points from the initial capture (say 1/100 of the karma reward) and then it would decrease with each tic to a fix value that would be very minimal, for example:

Initial capture of a keep: 123 points being defended, upgraded, etc…
Ticks while the first hour: 1/10 of the amount with a minimun of 5
Ticks while the second hour: 1/30 of the amount with a minimun of 3
Ticks while the third-fourth hour: 1/50 of the amount with a minimun of 2
Ticks while from fith hour ahead: 1/100 of the amount with a minimun of 1

That would make that recoup a lost keep is more important for the points that it give the enemy that nightcapping one and hold it for 8 hours.

Of course that is only a general idea, the formula need a lot of work and adjustment to get it working.

Sorry by the english (is not my native lenguage) and hope that some changes will be bring into WvWvW soon to get it fixed and that everyone would get nice fights.

Your idea is nothing new. It has been discussed before. ANet has said they are willing to look into scoring adjustments since so many people are unhappy with ‘night capping’.

Please stop making redundant threads as there is a stickied thread about night capping already.

Im sorry that my post seems to disturb you, i’m not aware that a similar proposal was made before, my apologies.

And for sure, the current situation of WvWvW is so nice that the official forum of the game is no the proper place to talk about it because the developer put several post about it with concrete solutions and even timeframes that would come……. oh wait…..

But don’t worry i would forget to try to improve the game as it seems that you found it ofensive.

btw: “This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system.”

That dont mean that they are currently working on the solution, that only means that they could look into it, but no that they are looking into it or even willing to look.

For sure they could look into it in a future expansion month ahead, or a year, a couple or even a decade, but as i said before for sure the current state of WvWvW is so nice that no change is needed asap.

From the first post in the Night Capping and YOU thread:

Matt Witter, ANet game designer:

“Greetings everyone!

We’ve received lots of feedback regarding night capping. Many want to know how Arenanet views this. Our answer is that WvW was developed as a never ending continuous battle.

We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours.

Please use this thread as the main discussion for this topic."

Night capping has been brought up in as many threads as glass cannon thieves being over-powered. Both topics have been covered extensively in various levels of detail, factual evidence, and fallaciousness. There is zero reason to create more threads about either one. Pick a preexisting thread and go to town. Just please help stop cluttering up the forums with redundant threads.

Hello everybody,
this is indeed not a new topic. Please refer, if you haven´t, to the existing threads for further information.
Thanks for your feedback, though.
