On Tuesday, we successfully completed our first test session for the new “Edge of the Mists” WvW map! To all of you who were able to attend: Thank you! We gained a lot of insight from our first day of testing, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what advancements we can make on the map with your help.
As a note, we’ve invited a very small amount of guilds to the first week of testing as we want to ensure that the map is stable before we start pushing it to its limits. In the coming weeks we’ll begin to ramp up our testing by inviting additional guilds, so if you signed up, keep an eye on your inbox for an invite!
We’ll be running another test today between 2pm-6pm PST. Keep an eye on the official forums and other Guild Wars 2 communities as players relay their experiences with the new map. Even if you’re not currently involved in the test program, we’d love to hear your feedback on what you have seen from videos/streams.
Is there a way to apply as an individual? I run a small WvW fansite (wvwstrategy.net) and my guild has not been chosen, but I am highly interested in testing the map and sharing my findings.
Battletorn, as an individual whose been playing WvW for the entire year, I’d like to test this too. Why family Guilds appear to be invalid, I do not know. Maybe they are relying on the guild leaders to aggregate and submit feedback?
Pure curiosity and slightly offtopic; What can we make from the fact WvW maps get posted by PvP community officers now? Line between them getting thinner?
Further as someone who spends 99% of his time in WvW; i’d have loved to test the map myself, sadly i didn’t get an invite either. So far i’m unfortunately not impressed from what i’ve heard about the new map. Would love to have myself proven wrong.

Higher number of players competing on a higher level of coordination. It’s just better for testing. I’d be very surprised if they weren’t going to let in some VIP individuals though who run community sites.

Here’s the map for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Work in progress of course, but this is it basically.
Maybe they overdid it a bit with the bridges? lol. Oh well I don’t mind, I like that kind of stuff. I just hope they don’t put “guardrails” in everywhere though like they just did with Skyhammer sPvP map.

Thanks Grouch. My guild got in already and I was on the list, but I have gotten no emails/notifications about this testing. Any idea what’s going on? Are you guys not allowing all the guilds that you already accepted and got roster lists from in yet? Cheers!
The map from the developer live-stream looked really cool.
I also like:
-Testing shorter “matches”: maybe this could even be a type of or wvw game-mode that is more balanced (surely any server could get enough people to max it out for a few hours and take on one of the tier-1 servers in a match).
-A map that actually is interactive. Having destroyable/repairable bridges is very cool. It would be awesome to make a booby trap and destroy some fools. Chokepoints are great too.
-Testing new mechanics for getting supply/camps
-New area bonuses for controlling something (like the air-strike or blizzard)
-Can be accessed from anywhere
-Lots of verticality and ways to juke/maneuver (like the BL ruins)
One cool thing that I would love to see in wvw, is something I saw advertised for ESO:
-The ability to build “forward camps,” which essentially is the ability to build a waypoint in certain areas away from your side, that has a limited number of uses. This could be very interesting tactically.
A quick video of some of the stuff in EoTM from me and few friends for those that wish to see more. Overall the map will be hilariously fun and great for roamers or larger groups. There is still alot of OP stuff that needs to be fixed in it obviously, but we had a dev in our party that managed to take note of quite alot of little things that needed fixing or updating.
This map will turn out amazing if they manage to fix all the tiny things about it…if you leave the OP sun orbs in though and I always get Red. I’d love Anet forever.
When will there be public testing for everyone(not only guilds)? I’m sure this is needed – otherwise after official release a lot of players that haven’t tried will complain about certain stuff the pro guilds could not discover…
oh wait… it’s probably like always: after official release the first few weeks after that feel like public beta testing.
Another map we wont be able to cover. Just what the low pop servers needed. NOT!
GOT BRAINS?
No. The battle taking place on this map does not play into your server’s overall ppt/score. You won’t have to cover this map at all. It’s simply a place for folks to mess around while in queue, or when they just want a little stress-free WvW play.
We have invited 1000 additional guilds to the public testing of Edge of the Mists. Please have your guild leaders check their email inboxes! If your guild didn’t make it in this round, don’t lose hope! We’ll be adding more guilds in the coming weeks.
For those of you already invited, we’ll be running two tests today:
9AM-11AM PST
5PM-9PM PST
Thanks again everyone! We look forward to seeing you in Edge of the Mists.

So… Exactly what mechanic exists in the Edge of the Mists that you’re ignoring solo, unaffiliated WvW players in your testing?
I mean, if its not built with players like me in mind, I’d be happy to know in advance to never go there.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

we are now, according to the Mail, certain data of the players give out that are in the guild and want to join:
Player name, Accname, email and also the password.
If this e-mail then also right?
Because I never thought that Anet in e-mails asking for passwords
a.net would never need to ask for account info or password my guess is that is not a.net rather someone trying to get at your guild members account information
Got mail just like this one, mine dont asks for password, just accname and mail. And those informations are to be inserted int open-office excel document included in mail. Maybe I m oversuspicious, but it also sound fishy to me
If you received an invitation that asked for any passwords, it’s not from us. We never ask for any passwords. Please report any emails that ask for passwords to GW2 Support.
There is a hidden section of the guild roster sheet that says passwords, but you’ll note it says for internal use only. That is for us to use for when we invite your guild! Please do not open or fill in the sections that say internal use only.
We do ask for your account number (Username.####) for our reference and any email address. This does not, I repeat, does not have to be the same email as your Guild Wars 2 account. This is how we give you an account for the Edge of the Mists test, which is not accessed from your retail client.
Our guild (Make Your Choices [SAW]) was chosen but i’ve some problem to enter in the new map.
Is it working now? (i think it’s the right time). How can i enter exactly in the new map? It appears in the www menu? (i don’t see it now)
Thx
You have to follow the instructions in the email provided and send us a roster list of everyone in your guild whom is interested in the test. From there, we’ll work towards giving you an account so you can download the client.
Just to be sure I got the right email. What is the correct email that we send the attachment to? I believe the email is legit, but I want to double check here with a reply from someone with a big red banner behind their name. If you are not advertising that to the public, I’ll accept a private message too.

For those concerned, the email we’re sending all documentation related to the test from is edgeofthemists@arena.net. It wouldn’t hurt to add both that address and noreply@guildwars2.com to your email contact list to avoid problems receiving our emails.
As another clarification, there is a hidden section of the guild roster sheet that says passwords, but you’ll note it says for internal use only. That is for us to use for when we invite your guild! Please do not open or fill in the sections that say internal use only. We’re going to remove that part of the roster sheet from future invitations just to clear up any confusion.

LOL. Not only did they ignore you for invites, they ignored your query.

1000 additional guilds invited and ours was not, is it random or based on some criteria?
We’re one of the more active WvW guilds on our server and I filled out the application on day 1.
Not complaining as I understand this is beta and for testing (and you guys are working diligently on it), just wondering if I failed to do something on my end that prevented us from being chosen.
I can suggest to check your spam box, i found there my anet email (or gmail promoctions tab if you use it).
BTW it’s only a test, i think Anet use different criteria to chose different guilds (Country, large/medium/small guild population, how much they do WWW/PVP, experience in testing games etc.)
I found the apply form very detailed, very similar when you send a CV to a company

Starting a guild is like 10 silver right? Start a 1 man guild, apply for EoTM testing, get invite. They are doing it on the guild level to reduce management time.

I’m a solo guild. I scout mostly. I got my invite yesterday.
As a future reference, to those who have yet to submit a roster, please be aware that you must fill out the entire roster for every member you want added to the test. (Except, of course, the aforementioned “Internal Use Only” section.) If you don’t provide an email address for everyone, we can’t invite them.
I’m glad its opening up to more people, it has been a little sparse. Also happy to see you guys are working very fast to remove a lot of exploits. Good work team, and thanks for keeping us so updated on it.
