Asura on patrol in defense of Gandara and Bessie!

A tip to the people replying directly to the original post: Often, people will come on these forums, make threads about these where they complain about something they misunderstand, then disappear. Usually you can tell whether a topic of this kind is worth jumping in based on whether or not the OP ever makes a second post.
This topic’s OP, iSmack, is not one of those people. He took the time to read the replies and took as much as he could from them. Let’s appreciate the fact that he came here to learn other players and extend him the same courtesy of reading follow-up posts. That is all
hmm smells like a troll tbh but still, in WvW u can team up with your friends (like PvE), HAVE to use different strategies ‘cause enemies are other players not scripted AIs (unlike PvE), you can choose either to be a sheep and follow the zerg (then it becomes similar to PvE) or just go roaming with yr lil group of friends (and gettin tons of fun), after a while you start actually knowing some new people (not just your friends and/or guild), you can use siege (and can be fun) and wonder what? you can even do some PvE (sadly).
Personally i never play a MMO which doesn’t have some kind of “large scale” pvp, so GW2 WvW is good, but if you don’t like it, just avoid WvW or find another game without it.
Have fun.
wvw is zerg v zerg
wvw is zerg v small force
wvw is gp v gp
wvw is solo v solo
wvw is what you want it to be.
Will you like wvw as pver? not sure if you will. The thing is people aren’t mobs. They don’t do the same thing everytime you fight them. There isn’t a ‘trick’ to every battle that’ll enable you to win everytime. You are not guaranteed to win in fact you will die and perhaps die a lot. I my experience pvers like order , routine, predictable outcomes and pvper like chaos , unpredictable nature of never knowing what’s around the corner , they don’t mind dying.
Just wanted to update and thank people who’ve added their experiences with WvW.
I’ve decided to ditch my Berserker set and went with my Knights set. At first I made it for kittens and giggles but when using it during WvW when was testing it’s waters, i noticed that I can live longer with it while still administering decent damage.
I’ll try out WvW more tonight, hopefully with Guild mates, try to utilize some of the ideas you guys have written down.
Use omnomberry ghosts and master maintenence oils with that knights set to live even longer and smash more faces.
And dont forget your golems in a box.

Two reasons, why I like WvW:
First:
Second:

What does the omnomberry ghost do exactly? I guess it will be more economic to get Chef crafting prof as well at some point to make those.

The Ghosts give the same life steal as Omnom Pies, but are more cost effective, and they make you look cool for a few minutes. But get both the oils and the ghosts to bump your crit more so you steal more life.
I despise PvE, yet arena net forces me to do it for my Legendary!!!!!!!!!! I need to collect all kinds of weird kitten for it. AND don’t get me started on the map completion! I have to drag myself through countless of maps to do it :’(
This is so unfair Anet. Fix it NAOW. I never want to leave my wvwvw bubble.

Massing is the only viable ‘strategy’, i use the word strategy loosely here, and are just plain boring.
I used to think this was true before I joined a WvW guild. We rarely form a zerg unless it’s important.
We will split up into teams of 5 and each team winds up with their own “job” (which of course changes as the tactical situation on the map changes). Some will be watching a keep, some will be escorting supply yaks to that keep, others will be flipping camps in an enemy borderland, maybe a team will be harrassing enemy supply/reinforcement lines, we usually have at least one small team just sitting in strategically important supply camps with ballistas. We have people running supply to nearby or strategic battles, groups assisting other commanders’ zergs, people sweeping held keeps for mesmers, people just building and refreshing defensive siege. I could play WvW for 10 hours a day and still not wind up doing every job that just my guild does when all we’re trying to do is hold one keep.
And it gets even more interesting when we are laying siege to a keep … cutting off supply, killing reinforcements, building trebs, defending them from counter trebs with a squad of eles, watching for stealthed suicide groups, taking and holding tactically important towers, raiding supply camps. That doesn’t even get into the feints and distractions meant to sew confusion about our actual plans.
Zerging is the only tactic if your commanders suck. And, yeah, we do that too when we get bored except we zerg in style (show up on your borderlands, quietly build a bunch of golems, try to take a keep or two without drawing orange swords and alerting you that we’re even attacking, and then jump onto the map that your zerg just left once you figure out what we’re doing).
For me, WvW got more interesting when I understood the overall strategy better. The zergs are certainly important, but they’re like “WvW 101.” But I can assure you that if you suck at running with a zerg and supporting it, you are going to suck at the rest of WvW. IMO, everyone should spend their first month or two in WvW just running with zergs and seeing how they operate in different situations. Basic training, if you will.
Note … if you are part of a server that will be facing Dragonband next week, then let me say that WvW is super-boring and you should probably farm in Cursed Shore for the week instead.

I just threw up all over my work desk as soon as I read Cursed Shore.
I love WvW because of the number of different ways it can be played. I normally roll as a lone wolf and will join/split off from havocs and zergs as I see fit, doing everything from escorting or ganking yaks, controlling power nodes, flipping camps, building defensive siege, scouting, etc.. I guess the fun comes in for me by finding something useful to do, in the moment. You don’t have to always run with the zerg.
