Q:
Tiny Icono – Engineer / The Icono – Elementalist
SoS – Empyrean Knights [EK] YB – The Coasters [TC]
Q:
Hey I’m trying to decide on an alt to make, I already have a frontliner and a couple roamers and am torn on what to decide for more of a backliner/aoe class: the elementalist or necromancer. Any thoughts or pros/cons would be appreciated!
A:
Staff zele has a lot of long range AoE, and some support but you will die a lot and be a burden to your team unless you’re a very skilled player.
Power necros put out a lot of AoE damage but it falls off once their wells are on cooldown. They’re stupidly survivable, even as a zerker and can pop plague form if they get in trouble (use blind).
Condi necro has no place in organized large scale PvP because there are going to be AoE condi removals flying around quite frequently.
Necromancer is more a frontliner to be honest. Besides marks and wells, all of the other skills require the necromancer to be in their face.
Elementalist is a complete backliner/aoe class.
do you want to be support or kitten? ele have fields, necro have blind, boon removal etc
Personally:
Necromancer > Elementalist
I find the Necromancer to be more fun than my ele.
Zerker staff Elementalist mows people down with Meteor Shower and Lava Font in zerg fights or attacking and defending towers. Condition Necromancer is best for small group play with its unstoppable conditions. Both are pretty bad a roaming since they don’t have the mobility to run away from bigger groups but a condition Necromancer will never lose a 1 on 1 or even 2 on 1.
actually, neither. Go engineer, or ranger. 100% more fun, and 1000% more fun to kill people with a ranger
GvG Backline, staff ele
GvG Midline , DnD ele
GvG Backline assassin , DnD ele
GvG frontline , Necro hands down
Roaming , Necro and DnD Ele
Ele requires more skill to stay alive and deal dps. It’s not an easy class to learn.
Though if you’re a good d/d ele, you can run through a zerg dealing tens thousands of damage and come out the otherside with full health and all skills off cooldown ready to dish out the damage again.
Also, lol@zerk ele. Zerk eles are just bad. Die in 2-3 hits and absolutely useless.
As an ele, you’re going to stand in the back and drop meteor showers + support fields
As a necro, you’re going to stand in the back and drop wells + marks
Do you want pretty red + blue graphics or dreary green + black graphics?
That’s the ultimate question.

If you’re a necromancer not in the front line than you’re doing it wrong.
Deathshroud alone requires you to be the enemies face.
Go necro unless you have the APM of an energizer bunny. On an ele, the gameplay doesn’t really get old cuz if you slack off you will die. But you get old real quick.
With half the people you run across in WvW being a Guardian or Warrior these days, the Ele has lost much of its value. Necro is far more valuable to the current WvW meta. Roaming is a different story.
Thanks guys for all the feedback! Think I’m gonna try out ele because I want a little more complex class and already have a condition engi. Thanks again!

Remember , Start with PVT and Healing Cleric Gear, and then move away until you are comfortable with what you need.
Learn Staff first then ,SnF , SnD and Lastly DnD. The best ele can swap between DnD and Staff when needed.
The classic trait is 0/10/0/30/30 and has been a proven winner since 2012.
Good luck and dont give up.

It really doesn’t- unless you have a healing build with that tranfusion trait and deathly invigoration then there is absolutely no need for a necro to be front line.
Also if you’re frontline you dont have a good overview of the battlefield so you’re well and mark placements will be crap as hell and if you lose stability and get stunned/ immobilized by an enemy frontline, you’re done basically.

If you get immobilized as a front liner than your guild needs to rethink their compositions, both class and party. And if you did get immobilized in the frontline than consider yourself dead regardless of what class you play because the other zero just wiped you.
Warhorn 3, 4, 5, plague, death shroud 4, and 5 all require you to be in the enemies face. Wells and marks are even easier to place as a front liner because you’re closer to your enemies stack up, all those boons get even easier to transform into conditions because they are grouped up. If you are a backline then the enemy would already be moved out and split up by the time you reach them.
