Not gonna happen. Clearly many, many elites in GW2 are underpowered and underwhelming, especially in various environments (Hello Basilisk Venom in underwater champ fights ala HotW).
The fact that in GW1 you didn’t have to equip an elite, you could only have one but any skill could be used in lieu of one, speaks volumes on the current design as being 100% rigid and intentional.

100% support this… I play a mesmer and I think we have the only elite skill that actually buffs the enemy and helps them kill you – aka moa – lucky for us most people panic and run away but even those that run away get a speed boost from the skill.

I agree there would be some entirely new super builds but that is a good thing. Sure some skills would have to be adjusted over time but I for one would welcome a shake up like this.

I would like to suggest we mix things up a bit and turn the Elite slot into a standard utility slot. The change would also allow only one Elite skill on the skill bar in any utility slot similar to the GW1 system.
This would quickly create some new and exciting options for builds. The change also doesn’t seem like it would take much development time (pure speculation). The game has grown a bit stale for us long time players and this could be a small modification with a big payback.
Good idea, specially considering all the elementalists elites are now useless.
I say this would be a pretty cool idea. As there are already 4 utilities of a given type for each profession, it would allow players to mid-max a bit more.

Perhaps it would be equally beneficial to look into making new (and legitimately useful) elite skills so that certain classes don’t feel like their elite skill slot is so useless. Sure they’ve re-balanced the current elite skills many times but some classes are still left with a selection of elite skills that simply don’t fit their specific build.
I’d personally love to see something like the Signet of Capture from GW1, but modified so that it could capture the elite skill (or most powerful skill) of an opponent which could be saved until the skill is manually deactivated. I’m afraid something like this would take actual time and effort to create though, and the devs seem to be lacking both for some reason.

I certainly would support the addition of more skills to the game but new ones have been scarce. They also likely require a ton more testing than a change like this. This idea is mainly borne from how quickly it could be implemented (in theory).
