elona was t1 and t2 and we fought most “good servers” and trust me when i say elona have low numbers

Perhaps T1 servers have more players than you – but you definitely have more players than Piken and Kodash.
I still dont know any guild of Elona – from Piken i know VII , HoB , PX , TUP.

I wish Elona good luck in T2 but Romek i think you`re very proud of your win this week. If you think you win with 300k points because of Skill your just naive ;-)

Just logged out for lolz to the character select screen and checked the worlds at 8PM UK time:

- Piken Square: Medium
- Kodash: Very High
- Elona: Very High

Then I logged in and checked all the zones, we don’t have a queue anywhere yet we have an outmanned buff in every WvW zone. I then went to our Borderlands just to get in time to help defend Bay, 40+ Elona on one gate, another 30+ Kodash on the other gate. We had 20 defenders in total.

Besides that, every morning I logged in at 8AM UK time and we had between 30-80 points per tick, with most of our BL coloured green or blue. With the 10 people that we had in our BL it took on average four hours to get some level of red back in our BL, whilst more often than not we had outmanned as well.

Then 5PM UK time came, and the Elona and Kodash hordes descended on our BL with 30-40 men zergs, pushing us all the way back again and just steamrolling our carefully fortified keeps and towers because we still remained on Low-Medium pop. And this continued throughout the night where Elona to their own admission had 30-men groups roaming around.

As a server we prioritise our BL above everything else, even with getting every available player in our BL more often than not we got outmanned.

Good luck on your achievement. Numbers clearly has nothing to do with it.

I’ll be reading next week’s thread with interest to see how you fare against other High Pop servers. Let’s put it this way: there’s a reason you’re not fighting in the higher tiers, in spite of being a very high pop server.

Well with the match up finally ending. Would like to thank everyone for the good fights. I knew that piken would have a hard time in tier 3, but being a medium server and getting so far makes me very proud to be in this community. Kodash, always a pleasure to fight you and Elona have fun in Tier 2. GG

Yes, every server is affected. I’ll try and put this in a way thats easy to understand. Any numbers quoted here are going to be based off the fact that I assume Elona Reach has twice the population Piken does, which isn’t an unfair assumption, and that each server loses half of its WvW playerbase over christmas.

Assume Elona Reach has 1000 players wanting to play on its maps during primetime. That means Elona can field maxiumum numbers on all 4 maps, and have Q’s. Piken, with 500 players wanting to play, can cap out its borderlands, EB, and field a sizeable force of around 100 players on each of the other borderlands.

Now, assume each server loses half of its WvW population. Elona, with 500 players, can now cap out its borderlands and EB, and still maintain a sizeable force on the other borderlands of around 100 players. Piken, on the other hand, with only 250 players, can only fill 1 map, usually our borderlands. The guilds then go to the other borderlands, leaving EB with perhaps 50 players, against at least twice as many Elona players. It doesn’t give you a chance to hold anything, especially when our things are capped during the night and during the day due to this same decrease in playerbase, hence rendering most of our objectives T1, and therefore, easy to take by Elona’s blobby zergs.

Thus; Piken, as a medium population server, is affected more by this event than most servers

Hell, I didn’t even factor in that we’re an RP server, so it naturally hits us harder anyway, because PvE is still a big thing for even some of the WvW’ers on the server.

Now, its long been the server mentality within Piken Square, that we don’t give a kitten what our server ranking is. We log on every night, without Q’s, fight for 5-6 hours, flip maps, and then go to sleep. We don’t want to become a T1 server with a huge population. If we did, we’d get longer Q’s, and then our WvW guilds wouldn’t be able to play like they want to. I’d take no Q’s over being able to say, ‘ima T1, yaaay’, anyday.

Piken will never become a mass recruiting server, at least while the WvW community that we have still exists.

Seafarers Rest was stuck in T3, our current tier, until they decided to start recruiting guilds. Now they’ve got a larger population. +Seafarers ever since the game began have had a larger WvW population in comparison to other servers, in reference to their population. You can’t use extreme cases such as those to represent how the WvW population balance works. All of the other medium population servers are a lot lower than PS is. Most of the higher tier servers are high, or very high. And we will enjoy our empty maps. It gives our WvW guilds chance to play as a guild, which is why they rolled on our server in the first place

I think you need stronger glasses Dayra.

Whenever you talk about numbers you forgot that Numbers needs 2 things
- Motivation
- Organization
1) So motivate players to be in your world and once there,
2) motivate them to be in WvW.
3) And once they are there try to organize them.
4) keep them united
As I see it Piken has to work on 1)
Kodash has 1) and needs to work on 2)
and Elona has 1) and 2) and needs to work on 3) and esp. 4)

as if, just wait a few days or remember Elona’s last T2 appearance, all of a sudden 1+2 look far worse than whilst dominating servers with a lot smaller wvw-playercount

kitten ANET have to remember that good competition takes place on a level playing field!

Underworld, Far Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire – have the same population as Blacktide, Vizunah and Elona – this are not extreme cases, but they prove that World population have not much effect on WvW ranking.

Underworld is indeed big server but its PvE paradise, if u have ever played against them u will know they dont hjave nuch numbers in WvW
Ring of fire isnt big server at all and also have quite low WvW population
Far Shiverpeaks had that numbers but not anymore they lost loads last weeks.

Stop this “u had your chance to get 100+ players”, piken problem is lack of offpeak hours so nay anpother primetime guild doesnt change anything for us.

Looking at the populations as of right now (00:30 UK), 7 out of 14 “Very High” population servers are in the top 3 tiers, whereas 3 out of 14 “Very High” population servers are in the bottom 3 tiers.

Conversely, 5 out of 6 “Medium” servers are in the bottom 3 Tiers, 0 out of 6 are in the top 3.

I don’t see how this doesn’t show that there isn’t a correlation between Tier and Population (admittedly not a perfect correlation, but it is a factor nonetheless).
