Today we were fighting 500000 JQ on our home bl in bay and used the emergency WP. Of course very good commanders will predict and just start aoe bombing this area like crazy melting all 15 of us.

Wouldn’t it be cool if the emergency WP was a random area in the tower, hills, garri, or bay for example? I think it would help the little guys out at least and keep the enemy zergs guessing.

Randomizing the location can hurt the defending force just as much as help it, keep in mind also the emergency waypoint is visible to enemies. Ideally you want to use it before an enemy breaks through inner giving you a chance to organize defenses like siege and getting your forces together to counter the enemy, this is why scouting, communication and group coordination is so important. The reason the emergency waypoint is always inside the inner part of a structure near the lords room is to allow defending groups to get inside immediately if the structure is being attacked from any/all entrances. If the enemy has already broken through to lords room and greatly outnumbers you then your chances of keeping the structure are greatly reduced.

I’ve noticed that once a force breaches the inner wall, the emergency waypoint becomes basically useless since you can just bomb the crap out of it.

The better choice is to pull it before the inner wall is breached and stop them at that choke.

It would be nice to have a randomized emergency WP location. In the cases where your scouting fails and they breach inner it should still be a viable tactic for last minute defense. The bay EWP is especially a death trap since it’s right next to the lord and so easy to rally people around for bombing.

Hm, somebody pulled the emergency waypoint in SMC last night when the outer wall was breached, and got chewed out by a commander who said that it should only ever be pulled if the invaders were already getting in to fight the lord (i.e., after breaching the inner). Given that the tactics all seem to have very long cooldowns — and that we were constantly under assault — I could understand the commander’s ire. But this seems to be a different opinion here.

edit: Regarding location randomization, it could always be randomized to some point still within the lord’s room. But the point that it’s still going to be visible to enemies no matter what is going to be true no matter where you put it.

The risk of emergency WPs is that the enemy anticipates the usage. We had the problem before with the “normal” WP opening every 3 min. I think it belongs to the game and should not be changed.

Blue tag only I guess. When a player hits the switch the map can vote and chose what tag can select the location. Just throwing it out there to avoid trolling of it.

Lol you didn’t get the post, partly my fault was trying to mainly highlight Emergency but it didnt come out right…The point of the ewp is to be used as an emergency defensive move, what you proposed (with commanders choosing location and map voting etc) would use up way to much time and cant possibly work properly. It would actually hurt smaller groups even more.

Despite what people want to believe BG does not have zergs running all day on all maps, we do get outnumbered a lot even when we were linked.

Although tactivator trolling is a real issue that does affect all servers, and Ive posted several times that this stuff needs to be changed, the current system of making it only useable by guild members is not a reliable method.

I think the waypoint should be removed from the game.

It encourages map hopping blobs.

We had a big JQ map hopping blob and any time some SoS/SoR group was about to ninja our T3 hills on another BL we would just waypoint in and wipe them easily.

I felt bad for them that they’d done all that work and they would have taken our hills if that mechanic hadn’t been added to the game.

If the problem is that enemy zergs will bomb the crap out of the WP killing anyone who tries to WP in to help, why not just make it invisible to the other servers? I mean if we are trying to be as realistic as possible, part of taking a keep or castle is not knowing how many people are defending it. So by that logic you shouldn’t know, nor should it really matter to you, if there is an emergency WP active or not

I think the fixed location is fine. Honestly it should likely be on the exact same location as the regular waypoint. I woulda made the emergency waypoint just unlock the existing waypoint or open one on the usual wp location. If the attackers are already through inner then the game should shift in favour of the attackers not against them. Having an emergency waypoint AND having it port people right into the right spot at the right time is TOOOO much. I understand that most of the time the attackers are a massive blob outnumbering hte defenders a ridiculous amount, but 2 wrongs shouldn’t make a right.

I keep telling people this. They think you can mesmer portal bomb with it, and it’s not like that. If you pull it when inner is breached, it’s too late.

that would be easy to exploit…. even if ur invunerable and could not cast skills would not be pretty to be there….
Due how game works when invunarability ended your already on top or a thousands or red circles…

Guild that own tower/keep, should use waypoint at any time within a CD between uses when waypoint is contested, then some one that owned the keep and are allowed to that would drop a place for the emergency waypoint in a choosen place for a emergency spawn to be used by all players, and thus add a bit of tactics to the beacon, and avoid the predictable red circle spamming.
