End of culling start of LAGWARS
Change the WvW character limit and WvW character quality to reduce your lag a bit.
Surpisingly for me, I’ve experienced the opposite.
Before the patch I used to have an insane amount of skill lag in fights making WvW almost unplayable most of the time for me.
I was kind of both dreading and looking forward to the culling fix and to my surprise I have been in some of the biggest fights i’ve ever been in today and only experience a lot of skill lag in one of them.
The rest of the fights i have been in today have had very minimal lag for me and have been a big improvement on my gameplay experience before the patch.
Yea, my skill lag is absolutely ridiculous. It can get as high as 5 seconds, but on average it takes about 2-3 seconds for a skill to execute. Oddly enough, everything else is perfectly fine. For the first time ever I’m able to participate in large scale battles without my game slowing to a crawl or magical legions of angry JQ people appearing out of nowhere. :P
Once they get this skill lag sorted out, WvW performance will probably be near perfect for my system.
The biggest issue I’m having is skill lag which is just terrible in bigger fights. I’m not finding that turning down the character limit or the quality makes any difference because I suspect that the server infrastructure can’t handle the load. I’m not a developer so I don’t know for sure but it’s really the same issue this game has during busy world events.
It’s almost like there is nothing they can really do for wvw and the culling problem and they know this.
They figure well maybe we can try this but we already know that it will cause lagg and see which one the players think is worse to deal with the not loading or the lagg?

After the patch it was my worst WvW experience. Luckily i was allowed to see all players around…yay culling is away…but then i tried to attack – I TRIED and tried and tried…so skill was getting out my skillbar was just blinking because i activated all of my skills.
For my surprise i made dmg and killed some enemies, didn´t see it just get bags and exp.
So culling is away and skill-lag is arrived – nice! I felt like the evening when the big karka-event started – terrible.

It’s a server-side hardware issue so don’t hold your breath.

I play on an unremarkable laptop and strangely enough, with culling turned off and with 50 enemies nearby I can see…I’m experiencing a little less lag than before.
Hope Anet gonna do some shopping tomorrow for some new hardware and then we are all happy !

i love the character number and quality settings
can play with 40 fps in mass zergs now before i was getting 20 fps
hope Anet give the option to turn it on in PVE also the dragon events are still low fps for me
Skill lag is really a big problem… hope they sort this out, even if they need to reduce cap for a while…
This is good, because it tells you that Internet companies need to step up there game, by giving us FASTER internet connection speeds so we can process lots of information at any given time.
I don’t notice anymore lag than before, but the only way to fix this issue is to reduce numbers of people playing on a map. Theres a reason afterall why theres a maximum player cap on these battlegrounds, and that’s because too many players will cause a crash because the internet can only load so much information at a time.
Its same thing as 3 different people browsing on internet using the same connection, it will get slower the more people that use that same connection.
This is not an anet issue this is a Cableone, Comcast, etc issue.

Skill lag like before the patch, that has nothing to do with our hardware, it’s their servers which can’t manage huge fights. Biggest problem is: I can’t heal myself. Today I got killed a few times, because I was hitting the heal button but nothing happened.
What I’m wondering about is, why do other games even old ones can manage fights between 500 people but our wvw servers have problems with fights between 100?
And it’s definitly not the internect connection: I got up to 1,5GB/s so please don’t tell me my internet connection is too slow. (by the way the fastest site I had could give me a download speed of about 20-30 MB/s

Fps is not the issue. The issue is latency, and thats server side not client side.
It’s nuts out there. I MUCH preferred the old way. The skill lag is absurd. Now when I get a single skill off, I’m so kittening proud. I sit there in the zerg mashing one button hoping it will proc. It’s like…. “C’mon utility skill 3, go, go, go…. work! WORK! 3333333333333333333… I…. I think it…. YESS!!!! Damage numbers! I did it!”

….. this shoud be priority n1 , why bother implementing some new cosmetic content when the WvW is unplayble if the hole BL decide to go to 1 place at the same time
Skill lag and culling are not related. My fps has actually improved slightly with the new culling changes. Skill lag is a completely unrelated issue which has gotten worse recently and will need an additional fix.
Major cause for skill lag being the giant blobs and it’s enhanced even more so today because everyone is in WvW trying out the new culling changes so skill lag is even worse than normal with the maps filled to the brink with people.
On the plus side at least we can now see where the enemy is so you can see what it is that is killing you and moving/dodging you can still do without lag so you have a little bit more control with it but still not being able to heal sucks.

Things are way better in wvw, and server lag is not a new issue. Server always died in major battles, i.e. 3-way SM cluster #$%&
My lag/FPS is actually much better after the patch! Given the fact that I can now see 300 people, I was thinking that performance would actually get worse. I’m running all settings at ultra/high. i7 3770k OC to 4.5 GHz w/ GTX 680.
Devs: did you guys do any tuning that would have made high-end computers perform better?
Everything has become so much better after the patch. Everyone in my guild knew I complained about lag every night, especially during wvw. Now with the customizable options I’m enjoying wvw like never before! Thhaaankkkss SO MUCH, ANET!!!

The prevalent skill lag is server side so there might be marginal improvement but not much.

Server side skill lag wouldn’t really be changed, but for me and most people who aren’t running super high-end machines there’s quite a bit of pseudo-lag from your personal CPU not being able to handle rendering 250 models and twice that number of explosions, etc. I’m logging on now to try out the patch for the first time, and I don’t care if I have to set every setting as low as it will go. Being able to see opponents and getting more than two frames per second in big fights is all I’m asking.

Been in some massive fights in EBG. I have models on “Lowest” and # of players on “Highest” and i’ve experienced very little lag. Don’t really care what the opponent looks like, just as long as i can see they’re there. Kudos to Anet, was skeptical about the culling removal claim but have been very impressed so far.
Gonna have to pull myself from WvW to experience the rest of the Razing, but all in all – a decent patch altogether. Nice work.
You see; the designers of WvW wanted large epic battles without understanding the server infrastructure costs associated. The engineers stepped in and created a solution to the problem.
Unfortunately, there’s another problem that took its place. This is not something that an engineer can fix; this is only something the designers can fix.
Now they have to redesign WvW to encourage players to spread out over multiple areas and reduce overcrowded gameplay.
The skill lag is random as hell now, regardless of where I am and what I’m rendering. I can be in a huge zerg fighting another huge zerg and be perfectly fine, but then I’ll get 5 second skill lag while sitting by myself at a camp in WvWvW. This is ridiculous to say the least.
Although, it is nice seeing everyone in high detail instead of sections of an enemy zerg appearing randomly in the midst of battle.
Yesterday night was the first time ever that WvW was UNplayable for me. Maybe the reason is that more people than usually went into WvW after the update, maybe the reason was the patch itself I don’t know. I just want to be able to play WvW again!

I Haven’t had a big problem today at all. I love that I can actually see everyone around me. I do play on a smaller server and the only times I got skill lag before was in SM with all 3 servers inside. Haven’t had a fight like that today yet. I have noticed lag but not terrible. I really don’t want culling to come back. Just fix the lag somehow and I’ll be happy.
Same here. As I said elsewhere, I’d probably only pay 1/2 the amount I did for this game if I’d had the benefit of foresight. Maybe. Laggy and unplayable. Skill lag not addressed. I thought ‘maybe it’s my connection’, tested it, fine, played again, skill lag.

If you have not-so-high upload speed, your client won’t be able to send skill request among all ack’s, movement, etc.
And on server-side it’s not necessarily hardware. It might be plain internet speed limitation.
And btw, we did have skill lag before in big zerg fights. It’s just that now everyone tries out new wvw and zerg fights are more frequent.
Anyways, WvW became a LOT better now, thanks Anet!
I might try out wvw for a little while in a few minutes, don’t really want to play my only level 80 though so it’ll kinda suck.
I want to see what this new progression looks like.
Brilliant patch, no noticable lag or skill lag here, and I was part of some pretty big zerg battles.
Had all my settings up high and it’s amazing to see loads of players so far away.
Brilliant, completely changed WVW.

I really love the new options. Before the Patch, huge fights only had around 2-5 fps for me and I saw nearly no other players.
Now I can see, where the players are and how many and I had nearly no lags. Only in a extremely huge fight with all 3 main zergs I had “only” 15 fps :D

Haven’t had much of a problem performance wise before the patch, and haven’t had much of a problem after the patch, though it is so much nicer to actually see an army of red names off in the distance as opposed to waiting until I’m right in the middle of them.

First of all, great job fixing the culling! Finally able to see the actual amount of players in an enemy zerg, helps a lot in planning fights and being able to move in a smart way during fights. Yay!
But yeah, the skill lag….
Yesterday, EU T1 EB, Huge zerg vs. zerg vs. zerg. It took me 2 minutes to execute healing skill, and that was after i ran a bit further from the fight. Even autoattack worked only every 20 seconds, this is getting ridiculous!
Has anyone from Anet tried playing in such conditions? They should immediately notice that this should be their top priority to fix..
We talking about ANET servers lags and ANET bandwidth lags, not about the users ones.
I have perfect computer (60+ FPS at max WvW settings in the hugest zergs) and 30 mbitsec bandwidth, so stop trying to say this is my problem!
God, yesterday in the SOLO Living Story dungeon I have 1-2 sec freezes every 20 sec! WTF?

I dropped 2 rams at a gate with about 10 other attackers. Got on the second ram after it was built only to have a three second delay between when the skill refreshed and I could use it. I was on low/medium settings.
I played for about an hour didn’t really have anything noticeable, mostly played my level two and no zergs, only got a lagg after I got on my level 80 and it was somewhat of zerg vs zerg (little more willing to clash with people on my 80 even though I can barely play the game now) my character just stood there until it was time to res with the guy swinging his sword at me the entire time, I’ve had this happen before it only happened once but I didn’t do too much big fights at all.
Scaling the levels but doing nothing else for — us — kinda did nothing as far as “scaling” goes. Like if a level two (scaled to 80) could buy the wvw gear and wear it only in wvw similar to how pvp armor is worn in the mists would be pretty great even though i don’t have the tokens for all that. Plus no weapon swapping (attunes) or utilities. I remember why I was stuck on playing just one character now, because there is no way in hell I am regrinding all of that.

Don’t try to blame this on my internet or hardware. I never had FPS problems (3,4 Ghz i7, 2GB GPU, 24GB RAM) and my internet is 100 MBit (usual download speed around 3 GB/s). So it’s either a problem with the patch or a general server problem. Been playing this morning with a handful of players on both sides and I had no problems whatsoever.
Might have really been the size of the zerg yesterday night.

I played 2 hours with only one problem happening once. Same problem that existed before when you’d sometimes go for stonemist and there would be two or three teams of zergs fighting it out.
Im on Piken and we are in T3 against Riverside and Augury Rock and in EB last night i can report there was permanant lag.
Im pretty sure that all 3 realms had around maximum number of players on the map but we had the unprecidented situation of every realm having all of their players under 1 commander creating monster-blobs.
Basically when u have 100+ players all in the same place at 3 locations of the map it creates lag. And when 2 of those monster-blobs whack into each other the lag was crazy….
I hope to god Anet either fix their servers to get rid of the lag OR they change WvW mechanics to stop monster-blobs.
