Enemy server requesting party join...
Or: He saw you posting here in the forum and noted your ID and whispered you…
Many ppl getting paranoid like it would be kind of a big conspiracy.

That would be all fine and dandy, except that these players are ones that i’ve come into direct contact with in wvw meaning that they saw me, engaged me in combat or otherwise, then somehow got my ID still. I want to know if anyone knows what this exploit is.
I’ve been partied by the enemy servers, mostly for duels and stuff. And just players voicing their opinion of mine and my server’s actions. I don’t think it’s a big deal, especially since your stats in WvW cannot always be duplicated in sPvP.
I personally would want to see /say and names be visible by the enemy. I don’t like this language/name barrier thing, it dampens the ‘thrill of the kill’.

Well that’s fine, your opinion is valid, I just dont think it’s something that only a few people should have knowledge of how it works, thats an exploit. Either remove it or make it known how this “feature” works.
Omg 75% of the population that play this game cry about nothing or the smallest things.
How am I crying? I’m voicing my concern over a part of the game mechanics that I don’t understand. You haven’t done anything to explain it yourself.
not a problem AT ALL.
you would have to accept their request in order for them to talk to you or see your account ID. So if you don’t like it just decline their requests and don’t ruin it for people who like to accept these.
Just came here to basically reiterate what MartyParty said, since it’s correct.
OP, this partying feature isn’t that much of a big deal.
I’ve experienced it once before, and had a great deal of fun with that Kaineng Invader /wave.
Previously we could whisper other invaders by clicking the report button and viewing their names, then whispering them. After that Anet decided to remove it, cutting off connection between the fellow servers. Now we can only communicate with them in limited ways, either by giving a shout out on the Forums, or partying them to talk, perhaps just to give them a clap on the back for a great battle fought, or even just to hang around together role-playing as animals.
Furthermore, i really don’t see how this is an exploit by far. You have mentioned that they party you to spy on your server and give their own server information. If you really feel that way, just reject their party invitation, there’s always that option to do so. Also as to the fact that people come over to your server and party with their friends back at their original server to send them information, you don’t have to party with someone for that. VOIP and guild chat would work as well, and party chat would hardly make it extra convenient, considering the player has come all the way to the other server to spy.
However, back to the original party issue, i hardly think they want to party you to spy on your server. People just want to have fun, its a game after all, and i feel that most people would like to interact with the people they fight with. (Lets us see their names Anet!)
So yea, this is just an in game mechanic allowing you to party with a player from an opposite server, it certainly isn’t an exploit that gives the opposing play a huge incredible advantage.
Perhaps Anet might remove it in the future. I would rather they not of course, our only source of communication in game would then be limited to the few awkward emotes that we currently have.
Just my opinion on this matter.

You don’t have to accept the request as martypartys has said and even if this was removed, do you think that would stop ‘spies’? I believe there is this AWESOME as feature called ‘whisper chat’ (I know right, I hadn’t heard of it before either) and a few revolutionary programs called TS3, ventrilo, mumble and what not :O

First I want to thank you for your well thought out and written reply. I already mentioned in my post that I understood other methods of spying and things and that I only thought this made the task easier. At this point though many seem to be in agreement that this isn’t a big deal and don’t ruin our fun, etc. It’s probably not a big deal, you’re right, but why have not one of you explained to me how this “feature” works. Until someone explains to me step by step how I can attempt to join the party of an enemy player I see on the battlefield, I will keep calling this an exploit. If its a function of the game, it shouldn’t be a secret or defended like one.
People don’t want ArenaNet removing the only way to be able to communicate with random people in WvW, get over it. You seem to be whining just for the sake of whining
Can’t you just right click on them and send party invite just like you would someone on your own server? I’m missing the part of this that is secret and unknown…

No you can’t right click and invite them.
Here’s how you invite an enemy player from another server.
1) Target them.
2) type /invite in your chat box.
They’ll have three options:
1) Accept request
2) Decline request
3) Leave the request pending
If they leave the request pending. X-server Invader will eventually turn into their player name.
Happy chatting.

agreed i hope anet doesnt take this feature away, because then it make me feel like they want no server communication between other servers inside WvW, and that it should be all serious. I have friends on another servers and i just made an IoJ friend a few days ago. We sat in party talking about mesmer builds and then skip along to go kill BG together, and stood back if someone on our server attacked eachother. At the end of the day it is still game a and its no fun if you can have harmless fun.

Thank you for answering my question. I guess it was pretty simple all along and as long as it’s fair game to anyone to use and being able to decline invites, doesn’t seem like it’s much of an issue. I see that now. To all those that couldn’t understand my feelings when I didn’t understand something and chose to tell me to stop whining and crying instead of explaining it, sorry but you’re just useless on these forums.
I honestly had never thought about the possibility of friending enemy players that I respect (and those I get pleasure reading posts from here). Nice idea.
Just because they are in the opposition and competitive does not mean they can not be friends. It is simply hogwash FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) that any/every relationship or contact is inappropriate.
I even know of a married couple that play on opposing servers in Tier 1 (at the suggestion of their marriage counselor) which I find interesting and at no time after I learned of it did I think it inappropriate.
Way too much unnecessary bowel-like retentiveness — more mental and emotional stool softeners are needed.
I’ve met a LOT of great people through this feature. I’d honestly be at least 60% less inclined to step into WvW if this weren’t available. If you, for some reason, aren’t a fan of chatting with someone just because they’re on the other team…well, just decline their invites, alright?
