I had a lot of fun exploring, learning new champions, and having some interesting fights. As someone who likes small group and solo fights, it was really nice to be able to roam around and quickly get into some action.

I look forward to spending time in EotM for quite a while to come.

I liked the zone, but became dissatisfied with the linear running. I prefer an open world feel. Me and my friend ended up back in our BL after a couple of hours.

Terrain is cool (instead of mists I would have made rivers and actual terrain meant for fighting, but thats just me) the automated cannons/quicksand bullkitten has got to go.

Rather than creating new WvW content, they should have focussed on the number one issue which they constantly seem to be tip-toeing around: class balance.

Now, I’m not saying that the new map is bad or good (too early to tell), but the mind boggles they still can’t fix the one thing that in all likelihood is losing them most PvP players: ridiculously imbalanced classes and now clear plan of action or timeline on how they’ll fix it.

Love EotM. Really dynamic terrain that finally forces us to think about position when attacking. Attributes tied to objectives makes deciding which ones to capture and defend more interesting. The long runs can be annoying but it’s a passive way of punishing a “zerg” for not playing smart. Over time the zerg begins to whittle down and can’t be reinforced quickly.

More wurm holes please! The only thing I would like is something to help us get across the map easier. I vote for an underwater quaggan ferry. Excellent opportunity to put a quaggan event back in wvw.

I like the new stuff- the wurm hole, the scorpion siege suits, the enhanced AI, it’s all great!

People are not FORCED into zerging…. You don’t have to zerg if you don’t want to. This map allows for various types of game play styles, if you want to zerg, cool. If you want to run 5 man teams, cool. Solo? Yup, cool do it. Yeah, the first day people are zerging, why? The don’t know what the hell they’re doing! I used to be a monstrous pessimists too toward this game. This new stuff should of came out LONG ago. But at least it’s out now. I came back to this game because of this new patch, and I loved it. It was like I just started WvW all over again. I give them the benefit of doubt. Good job anet, I like this.

It seems like Anet has geared 100% toward improving PvE in this game. PvP died a while ago and the influx of WvW players that occurred during and after Season 1 has gone.

The fact that you are forced to run and not have waypoints is a great addition, and one of the major problems with regular wvw. Waypoints made the maps way too small and encouraged massive blobbing. These maps tend to break up the blob over time.

Don’t want to run? Don’t die….

My guild is having a blast. Farming baddie blobs for loot and getting our good fights in with guild groups.

I found travel to be very easy… And I was using no speed boosts at all. Wurm holes, bridges, etc… It is not like you can’t use enemy bridges.

I have my concerns about the map.
But I find it a huge improvement from the state of WvW as it is currently.

If I could choose – I would ask ANET to completely revamp the original WvW maps to suit a style more akin to EotM.

WvW is dead so long as EotM is around, as far as I’m concerned.

i absolutely love the design of this map. roaming is super fun!!! and sending ppl off the cliffs is incredibly entertaining. if only BL’s had this same design to them than WvW would be super fun. EotM is the only thing ill play for a long time. thanks Anet.

I absolutely love the terrain and environment. heck I even saw our own EB commanders running their own thing there. It is a great way to enjoy WvW when your original match up is a total mess especially when up against PPT servers where small groups and zergs twice your size run away and hide behind trebs and walls.

Personally I don’t like it at all, baddies everywhere just trying to knock people off the edges then running away when they fail. Random Cannons and siege that spam knockbacks and do not require anyone manning them. Massive zergs everywhere, yip I’m not a fan.

Its great for those that like it but its certainly not for me.

Players asked for no WP in order to break the blob? Anet gave no WP.
Players asked for more meaningful objectives? Anet gave a sense to objectives (through buffs)
Players asked for harder to beat NPC’s? Anet designed harder to beat NPC’s
Players complained about Dolly escort? Anet deletes the need to have dollies.
Players asked better incetitive for defense? Anet rewards defense on this map.
Players asked for NPC to man siege? Anet made them able to do so.
Players asked for a place that would demand strategy? Anet designed a map where strategy – not numbers – can win the day.
Players asked for a place where they can fight ennemies in a balanced MU? Anets allows the maps to be filled by colors, so that there is always people around.

Pretty much all concerns that keep coming back about WvW design have been addressed in that map. The team responsible for class balance didn’t work on EoTM. The teams responsible of any concerns expressed by WvWers that were not taken in consideration have likely not worked on this map.

I would love complainers to point out exactly which player’s concerns linked with design of WvW maps and mechanics were not taken in consideration on this map.

They changed the few design concerns mentioned in alpha – eg, they changed the length of bridges to make it harder to be pushed out right at the exit of a bridge, and overall, unless a player is putting himself in a bad position, it’s pretty hard to make one fall, especially compared to the beginning of alpha.

General comments like the ones cited are not constructive and bring nothing to a thread named EoTM is amazing. If there are genuire tangible concerns with the new map or it’s design, pointing them out shall be great. But as far as I’m concerned, devs putted in it what many players have been asking for a long time regarding WvW design.

Do I agree with all? Nope. But I’m not going to get on devs. back pretending they are not listening when they basically just putted players feedback in a map…

You’ve quite possibly summed up the problem with EOTM, or with the direction of WvW based PvP in general: to much variety. Lacks focus. It fits the EOTM as a queue map, but since people are treating it as an official game mode and area of play and not just a brief stop in on your way to the real game, it’s not quite right.

Pretty much all concerns that keep coming back about WvW design have been addressed in that map. The team responsible for class balance didn’t work on EoTM. The teams responsible of any concerns expressed by WvWers that were not taken in consideration have likely not worked on this map.

I would love complainers to point out exactly which player’s concerns linked with design of WvW maps and mechanics were not taken in consideration on this map.

They changed the few design concerns mentioned in alpha – eg, they changed the length of bridges to make it harder to be pushed out right at the exit of a bridge, and overall, unless a player is putting himself in a bad position, it’s pretty hard to make one fall, especially compared to the beginning of alpha.

General comments like the ones cited are not constructive and bring nothing to a thread named EoTM is amazing. If there are genuire tangible concerns with the new map or it’s design, pointing them out shall be great. But as far as I’m concerned, devs putted in it what many players have been asking for a long time regarding WvW design.

Do I agree with all? Nope. But I’m not going to get on devs. back pretending they are not listening when they basically just putted players feedback in a map…

They put some players feedback in a map…Hand picked guilds, ones that were afraid to even give “certain types” of feedback lest they be kicked from the Beta.

Except for the last point of the “Players X? Anet Y.” list, they all came from demands of the general forums playerbase. Not the testers.
Testers comments were aimed at making the map tools more convenient. They did asked for more central WP, a third way to leave the spawn that would go direclty to the lower map. Testers asked for desert bonus to be more passive, to be balanced with the others, and for the kodan’s part to also give some travel boon.
A map with no objectives would be a dead map. Just leaving everything open, no ppt, no other action than players being there would not make for an attractive map for most players. Plus, it’s a WvW map, even if different. System of WvW is PPT and take structure.
Fight is my thing, and nice fights, even more strategical than regular WvW can take place there.
Once again, general comments are not constructive. Do share vision of what this map should be. Empty, with no PNJ or structures to be taken? Well, the problem is that it just wouldn’t be WvW, but a new game mode…

Anet actually listened to players when doing this map.
Players asked for no WP in order to break the blob? Anet gave no WP.
Players asked for more meaningful objectives? Anet gave a sense to objectives (through buffs)
Players asked for harder to beat NPC’s? Anet designed harder to beat NPC’s
Players complained about Dolly escort? Anet deletes the need to have dollies.
Players asked better incetitive for defense? Anet rewards defense on this map.
Players asked for NPC to man siege? Anet made them able to do so.
Players asked for a place that would demand strategy? Anet designed a map where strategy – not numbers – can win the day.

and yet the map is comprised of an unorganized zerg fest. there is no strategy involved, its just a bunch of karma trains running around. sure, maybe anet considered the opinions of some players but when i heard of some of the guilds that were invited to beta test many of them were not wvw centered guilds. Many of the things you listed have no bearing or meaning to serious wvw players.

My point remains that anet could have used the resources and manpower and actually listened TO SERIOUS WVW PLAYERS and made the changes necessary to keep wvw competitive. One can only imagine what anet could have done if they used all the resources, time and manpower to actually think up a way to balance servers so that wvw is competitive and doesn’t depend on off hour coverage, but instead they make a pve kitten map so that the players in the top 6 servers dont have to sit in queue for 10-15 minutes outside of reset.

The wvw community has been vocal about what changes need to be made in order to make wvw more competitive and balanced, but anet doesn’t listen and thats why the gametype is dying

Nothing Anet does would arrange coverage issues AND make players happy.
I read lots of ideas, most are impractical, many have lots of opposition, most treat players as mindless robots that can’t think by themselves.
The only one I read that made sense was to collect statistical datas on WvW connections and allow free/low cost transfers to servers needing them, and higher costs the higher the WvW population is…

People ask for balance MU, then complain that they are stale.
Anet makes it so there is some variety, then people complain that it’s not balanced / they get rolled over / bored to death.

EoTM is not only for high pop servers queued… lower pop in unequal MU can still enjoy balance and diversity. Higher pop tired of rolling on everything can go on it to find some challenge.
+ EoTM will cater to it’s ow set of players. some will only go there to WvW while in queue, but many will also get new builds specifically for playing on that map.

No map and no content can please everyone, but I find Anet gives into lots of people concerns in that map…

(btw, serious WvW players means nothing… All WvW players are serious, but all want things for themselves without thinking about what other might want… small committee, fight guilds, PPT guilds, roamers, and so on… they all see themselves as serious WvWers… and to make a one map that caters to all playstyles is impossible)

Since when would open world player vs player not be considered “WvW”…Since when would multiple server clusters lumped together be considered traditional WvW???

But to speak to your dull point….
Lots of players have asked repeatedly for:
-Turn the scoreboard off of WvW
-A map with a deathmatch style of play
-Less PPT oriented modes of WvW

So there is a market for the type of play you so failingly tried to make look “dull”.

Many of us have now came to the (correct) conclusion that EoTM is essentially a place for higher tiered people in queue, lower/mid tier people in “blowout” matches, to go and zerg up and carry on the karma train that eludes them in WvW 1.0.

My personal hope is that much of this will change as the shiny wears off…However, it may be that in the long run this map becomes “WvW” and the traditional maps become the place that roamers have been begging for.

Ironically, though, there is no kitten reason to try to defend on this map, with the short match times. Who wants to spend money to defend something, when they don’t really even need it. They can go take other stuff. It is one giant karma train, with no meaning. The results of the match are meaningless. No rankings, no win/loss tallies/no rewards for winning (I don’t count the supply drop as being meaningful, when no one is even on your map).

Great map though. Beautiful, and well laid out. The guards are more fun than the BL guards, and I love not having slow kitten dolyaks around. I just wish they would add some incentive for it, til then it is kind of a hollow activity for me.

Did you beta test friend? A lot of people did not give “overtly negative” feedback for fear of being kicked from the beta….Whether those fears were founded or not is another issue. But saying “this map was created based on player suggestion” is about as accurate as my statement.

So I predict eotm will be dead soon.
Pve people are complaining its 2 hard cause they die in zero gear plus red side is already dead
I’ve tried many many different maps and found barley anyone.
It’s kind of boring to be there with all that kitten running around being lost.

Rather than creating new WvW content, they should have focussed on the number one issue which they constantly seem to be tip-toeing around: class balance.

Weird, I dont remember much of Anet ever asking our opinion on anything and then using that. But if that is true, then whatever moron suggested automatic turrets on a 5 second CD with fast projectiles and a 2 second knockdown should go back to simcity or something.

It will not be dead anytime soon. It has really affected WvW on some servers (SoR, SBI) etc. Mag doesn’t seem to care for it at all.

I’m scared for this reset. SBI will probably face Mag again, and if our WvW peeps are chillin in EoTM, we are gonna get killed.

EotM is now hyped, because it´s new – all the same with quite every new content.

You should see EotM more like something between PvE and WvW. Maybe it will not be what ANet wanted it to be or told us it would be, but it will make the life of a wvwer much more easier.

I believe, sooner or later EotM will be the prefered playground for faceroll-zergling-, part time-, just for fun-, nothing better to do than going to wvw- and Karmatrain only-Players.

The „real“ WvWers, like the Openfielders, GvGers, Roamers and PPTers will find their home and playground on the old maps. But then with the advantage, that there are no more or definately shorter q´s and definately lower number of not so wvw addicted gamers.

Nope, I won’t “thank” them for the first real content bone WvWers got thrown their way in 1.5 years. It should have arrived long ago. This is a MMO. It lives off a constant stream of updates. Yet we WvWers have received almost nothing till EotM except tweaking and a minor map alteration in the form of ruins.

And the “real content” is highly subjective, as this is not even a map that benefits competitive WvWers. And even if it were, I am highly critical of the design of the map itself for a multitude of reasons.

EotM has been really fun, the fact that there is barely any care about objectives, it is just there on the side for added effect, the scorpion tanks, Cannons(Bit overdone) those wurmholes it adds a lot of fun factor. It’s different, the map provides many different styles for open field play, you have to be aware where you run an stand.

Also the fact that we can vs guilds from other tiers is amazing! At first it will be blobby yes, and zergy, but in a couple weeks, it’ll have settled, people will know those stupid gaps in the floor which you fall down 7 kitten times… and it’ll be a worth it map. It has def restored some of my faith in Anet and wvw, But theres still alot to do
