Eternal Battlegrounds is intended to give a balanced matchup, and although not every tower should be as easy to defend as Jerrifer’s, some of the towers are unreasonably bad.
Mendon’s Gap: For similar reasons to why Quentin Lake used to be lackluster, Mendon’s is fairly bad. There’s a lack of space in the tower, people can destroy the siege in it fairly easily, and there are limited options for approaching the tower due to the weird design of the underside and wide open space surrounding the tower.
Anzalias Post: Anz is the worst tower in WvW by far. It is very far from the rest of the red 1/3, it is vulnerable to smc trebs, it has a giant mountain in front of it that it would much rather be on top of, and it is vulnerable from every direction with no strengths to speak of whatsoever.
Combined, these two towers make half of the red 1/3 in ebg extremely hard to hold, and these towers are usually paper. A redesign to the landscape surrounding the towers could be beneficial, as well as moving Anz to either the other side of the dredge entrance or on the mountain.
While there are some towers like Klovan that are mediocre, these towers benefit from being next to decent terrain and stronger towers. Mendon’s and Anzalias are not up to par with the rest of ebg.
Anzalias is actually not useless. You can treb smc from it, and that hill with the vista in front of it can be used to treb overlook. Mendons and Quentin are not as practical, but have made for some great fights.
While mendons and anzalias pass are pretty hard to hold, the other two Red towers are way easier to hold. Velokas slope might even be the hardest tower to cap in WvW because there is not much space to place siege and basically everything can be trebbed from the overlook keep. Ogrewatch can also be trebbed from the overatch keep. Not to mention that Pangloss camp is very close as well, allowing Red to upgrade its towers and the main keep faster.
You might also want to mention how red keep can be trebbed from Stonemist Castle while all other keeps cannot. Essentially being red is an uphill struggle in EB because of the map layout favouring the attackers.
Meanwhile being green is more of a snooze as you can hit all four tower doors with keep mortars which no other keep can do thus making catapults the only avenue of attack if the defenders are using their brains.
Blue corner have 2 of the easiest to defend towers imo but then as you say we have Quentin lake which is lost usually before anyone can get to it from the keep and durios is extremely easy to rush.
Yes overlook being allowed to be trebbed from smc is something I think needs to be changed, it really is unfair to whoever is on red. Especially since its the only keep that can be hit from smc.
Mendons receives yaks considerably slower than the next slowest tower in EBG. It is comparable to the speed in which the north towers receive yaks in the alpine BL. It is harder to defend on siege than most towers, however, it does have a close route from spawn. Anzalias is bad all the way around (sure you can treb smc from it but the blue and green team can already treb smc from two outer towers each). I personally think red keep shouldn’t be able to treb stonemist and stonemist especially shouldn’t be able to treb red keep. I’m fine with trebbing stonemist from towers (and vice-versa) though.
