Eternal Battlegrounds jumping puzzle griefing.
I am of the opinion that siege equipment in the jumping puzzles is unintended, but until they say or do anything about it than anything is fair game. Once in the chamber your only recourse is to use pull-down abilities. The mesmer’s is the best.
There is a second method. Don’t forget the top of that arena chamber is wide open. You can zone in with 10 players and setup a trebuchet across from their arrow carts. I haven’t tried it yet but the roof seems high enough to not interrupt the shots.
Ah well this explains where all of our SoS players go. Drop some coin and get the same siege equipment instantly from the vendor…

I’d like to see you build a siege engine in the jumping puzzle while under fire of already built engines with higher ground. Please, be my guest.
When you mock people, try at least to make sense instead of playing the Internet strong guy.

lol. reminds me of the time a team of our opponents capped pangloss as our team capped behind them a couple camps on a clockwise around EB. they set up like 6 arrow carts and 4 ballista around that camp… i swear the veteran scout had a minigun in her kitten.
it hurt. i died once and said, ok. time to go do something else. well played on their part.
Hey, mortar guy here, I’d like to add some things not yet discussed in here, as well as my input on some things that have already been mentioned.
Just going to label my points for easy reference.
1. You can counter siege from the start of the jump puzzle, there is a concrete island above water that is very defendable, and as a bonus has stealth right next to it.
2. You can escort someone with stealth from the 2nd fountain through the dark room and if you have skill, you may be able to get by undetected. This does require teamwork. Yes arrow carts can break the stealth, you must plan carefully.3. I agree I was surprised siege could be deployed in there. I would be fine if they took it out.
4. Everything about retaliation has been said.
5. Mesmer portals are pretty OP in getting teammate reinforcements and supply runs through quickly.
6. Pulls are very effective, try to use them on the lower platform when we go for the manual trap pull.
7. Ignore the veteran mobs, they really don’t do anything. Walk in circles, we’ve successfully deployed arrow carts on the bottom floor with enemies above and veterans below. Communication and being quick about it helps.
8. It is not impossible, but it does require superior numbers. We eventually went down to 30 Sea of Sorrows.
9. Split up on the jumps, arrow carts usually target the furthest. Leapfrog it. The person in front WILL have to retreat from damage, but when he does another can take his place, block a few shots, and leap to the next barrier.
10. Leap skills are great, and can help you advance to the far side where it’s possible to get out of combat.
11. There is a safety zone underneath the trap platform that is very hard to hit, even with arrow carts. It also lures them to the edge where you can pull.
12. Feel free to leave the puzzle any time, you can get everything from the chest elsewhere, it contains no unique loot. Leaving is one of the most effective things you can do, wastes defenders resources as they sit there, and they WILL leave of boredom if no one shows up.
13. Hop servers if you absolutely must get to the end for the achievement.
14. Camp earlier in the jumping puzzle, that’s what we do. It allows your own forces to group up, and the amount of enemies getting through to reinforce is largely diminished.
15. Camp the reinforcements using portals to the top, catch the mesmer when he falls and takes damage to open the exit for teammates. Stun him, push him, burst him. It requires patience, skill, timing, teammates, and if they see you they probably wont risk jumping down. BUT it does cut off reinforcements and supplies. So every lucky pull thereafter is one less defender up there.16. Even with 6 people ready to cross at the boulders and no siege left, I alone can manage to neutralize every single one of them. Mortar the area and luckily get 2 people dropped. Knockback prox mine takes out another. Magnet pull another while they are crossing the tiny ledge. Airblast another when they make it to the trap platform. Retreat to the upper stairs and overcharge shotgun blast another off a cliff. None of these things are undefeatable, however. Hug the far wall so the mortar can’t knock you down. Out wait the mine, it does have a timer and a cooldown. Use dodge effectively. Use block or aegis effectively. Use stealth effectively. Use invulnerability effectively. Use pulls effectively. All in all, use SKILL, and your BRAIN. We’ve defeated arrow carts, camping players, siege golems, ballistas, mesmer portallers, you name it we can overcome it. Sometimes it’s as simple as overwhelming them with numbers; you can constantly revive anyone who is defeated.
edit:
17. The out of combat situation is frustrating, I shoot them once then hide up above. They can’t complete jumps without swiftness, and the arena is so tiny it’s hard to escape. Try going to the far side of the arena, or better yet INTO one of the far cages, the in-combat radius doesn’t reach that far. I’m not sure but I believe stealth breaks out of combat, and is also attainable by a combo field. I think they should fix it so there is a timer; if you haven’t taken damage in a certain amount of time it breaks combat, rather than just having it break combat from radius.
are the people still crying just ignoring this post? the easiest and most reliable way to beat beast room camping is to zerg it up. or setup your own siege equipment on the platform near the first mystic fountain. you can siege them right back with trebs/catapults.

That’s a whole lot of coordination for only 4 people with arrow carts.
Meh, I’m all for PvP in the jumping puzzles but I’ll agree that siege equipment down there is kinda lame. There’s a difference between making a puzzle hard to get through if there’s resistance to making it impossible to get through. You literally can’t get through that part at combat speed without speed buffs, and can’t at all if crippled, so an Arrow Cart up there is an “I Win” button, especially if you can’t attack it from below. I don’t like I Win buttons.
camping jp is forkitten also zerging jp is for kids
Seafarer’s Rest
I’m all for PvP, and I don’t mind uneven scenarios per se, but there are two issues I have with the jumping puzzle camping:
Arena Net went out of their way to remove any sort of griefing you could do anywhere except this puzzle, so anyone interested in griefing is going to be drawn exclusively to that one spot.
The camper’s advantage is totally absurd. They get the high ground, they get siege equipment, and they get traps made specially for the puzzle. It’s one thing for a guild to be camping outside an instance and keeping anyone from getting in it without dying repeatedly in a game like WoW. Here on top of generally having a numbers advantage the griefers also have just about every other advantage they possibly could given to them, and there’s no running back as a ghost or anything to allow you to make incremental progress.
When first we practice to deceive.
Well, Retaliation got fixed, campers with those kitten siegweapons are still there and its even more impossible to get through the jumpingpuzzle then before. Great job Arenanet, fixing the only thing that really helped there… not. And no answer/attention to this thread from Arenanet as well… seems nobody cares that there are still griefers around and the plague is even spreading, now it happens on other servers as well…
Fixing retaliation but not fixing this, such a bad joke…
Just disapointed where this game and especialy the WvW is going…
People that stop and fight the grub and do this stupid puzzle is a wasted space for people who really want to get in to WvW
PvP=Player vs Puzzle
These arrow carts cannot be reached or countered. They have full coverage of the arena.
6 hours they camped the beast arena and not a single enemy got through.
I am still trying to figure out what the problem is? I see “smart people set up impenetrable defense in jump puzzle” and I hear lemming-like sheeple saying “I keep smashing my face into an optional part of a war zone where the enemy keeps kicking the crap outta me and it hurts” so I have to ask, what exactly is the problem? Don’t go there and they have no reason to sit there. If they were botting this entire thread would make sense but… it sounds like they weren’t so if they have that kind of free time to sit and do nothing, go take all their keeps while they sit there. I don’t see a problem here at all.

So it becomes a zerg rush to set up siege then camp for 2 weeks. Everyone else kicks back and tries to be first in 2 weeks time?
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”

Answering a question with a question still doesn’t explain you original statement.

For something that provides no points, sure let em waste their time.

So they get to farm it the entire time? That’s not a waste at all.

Farm it for what? The 5 seals and a few blues they get every 24 hours? Or farm morons that keep banging their heads against a brick wall? No loss as far as I see. I could only hope that the morons getting ground up there rage quit and free up some room for some people smart enough not to feed.

So you accept this “camping” doesn’t belong to this game. If that’s the case, why not just saying “Remove siege weapons on Jumping Puzzles” instead of “They don’t get anything”
It’s not hard to write, just try: “Remove siege weapons on Jumping Puzzles”

Hell no let em camp. That fewer people hitting keeps and that fewer seige weapons on a keep.
The whole “don’t PVE in PVP” argument does not apply, this is a case of broken mechanics.
People need to leave combat to get through the animal pit but its impossible to leave combat when the enemies are LOSing us upstairs.
What I like is when people try to justify this kind of behaviour. Becuase you can build seige in unreachable places to exploit players to be stuck doesn’t mean its ment to be there as feature.
Using that logic, building catapults behind your own gate and stoping enemies outside from using their rams by hitting your own gate is clearly not a game mechanic flaw. Oh! I wonder why Anet is trying to change that?!
Camping is another story all together, while a little douchbag-ish it’s not strictly exploitable content.

Sigh Multiple toons are not included in the 24hrs and those ‘few blues’ are blueprints for siege weapons that take down keeps and garrisons that they will be able to throw back in your face next time they take your keep.
With no PvP its an ezy jump puzzle thats easy to accumulate a lot of blue-prints/items for, if you know how to do it smart.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”

It was a pretty stupid idea to put such a complex jumping puzzle into the Eternal Battlegrounds.
This will be a major source of complaints for a long, long, long time to come.
PvP during jumping puzzles is just infuriating. The fact that this also steals queue spots makes it even worse.
Bad idea ANet, bad idea.
Same arguments we heard from people about Darkness Falls and how PvP got in the way of seal farming. SSDD.
Personally, I just want to get the puzzle done and leave. Everytime I go in there theres 3-5 enemies farming ONE of me. WHy can’t I just do the puzzle and leave? is that too much to ask for? guess so.
This is why I don’t let “friendly” enemies get pass me in EB JP now. Because one way or another, this enemy will kill you (happened to me several times).
If they siege you then don’t do the puzzle, they will eventually get tired and leave. Now if you get there first let them taste their own medicine. It’s fact of life, you can’t get whatever you want.

Oh god I remember this thread. Long time no see.

There are roughly 40 jumping puzzles in the game. If you don’t like fighting people when doing them, why choose to do this one?

Why did this thread get necro’ed?
Can we just get a lock please.
The amount of tears shed in this posts makes me so happy. Sometimes life isn’t fair children. Welcome to tkitten JP.

Asuran Engineer (Lost)
Ah, I see my fellow Necros are hard at work on the forums too.
It’s a funny coincidence that this thread was started by a Necro (Kelthos is a guildie of mine). Anyway, now that it’s back let’s keep this thread alive for as long as possible, simply for the nostalgia of a time 8 months ago, when this was the kind of thing people worried about in WvW…
(^_^)
Haha, I remember when I made this post..
Yes, I was mad ):
/wave @ Bakuon!
OT: Whist I personally haven’t been to the.. “new” EB JP (not that it’s really new) and that my complaint actually got addressed (never expected it), I will add that additional changes probably should be made to address what is essentially spawn camping.
I do understand that WvW isn’t supposed to be balanced around “fair” but as far as I know, there is currently no point even entering the* “EB JP” because of the griefers that enjoy spending hours preventing players from even starting the JP (to each their own).

You used to be able to build (as in placeable) mortars? Or just the engi skill?
…I want to place mortars! They have a more satisfying firing noise than a trebuchet.
It was the Engineer skill :P
I will add though, now that I have read back through all the replies..
/large grin @ all the players that said it was intended/trolled me.

There’s no longer siege in the puzzle. Problem solved. Any thing else is solely the fault of the player. Why the need to necro it?
