These need to be fixed, to reward players who are actually useful to their teams instead of rewarding people who are in the right place to stand in the shiny circle. Over the past few weeks I have conducted several tests to find out what exactly earns a player a reward for the various events in WvW.

In several cases I stood back from an attack, didn’t even target and enemy or a gate. Never built siege, basically I wasted space and contributed absolutely nothing. However, at the end I ran inside and stood in the circle and somehow got rewarded with a gold medal for my efforts.

Other times, purely in the name of science, I would do everything in my power to help with an attack. I would drop supply on siege, I would drop my own siege, I would take out the guards, clear the walls, etc. At the end of the attack I would stand outside the circle and about half the time would receive no reward. In my most recent test of this, I spent about 45 minutes firing a trebuchet at Dreaming Bay. Showed up at the end, ran inside, fought a few defenders, took down some siege. And got no reward for the time I invested.

This is a kittened up system. Someone who is totally useless can reap the benefits while the people who are doing something that is worth a kitten get shafted. I don’t want to sound overly whiny, but there has got to be a better way to do the reward system. So, please Anet… just look into it.

Actually I think it’s pretty good. Not perfect, but probably the most fair of any MMO I’ve played.

1) You get contribution if you tag the event. i.e. kill something that gets you XP within a reasonable time-frame of the even completing
2) If you’re built highly for support and have a hard time tagging, you still get credit by standing within the circle

Its a bit buggy I’d think.

I’m a commander. I led a zerg to take Durios this morning. I dropped siege, killed defenders, killed guards, used supply on my siege. Let someone else beat down the door while giving orders, did roughly 50k on the tower lord, and stood in the circle. My reward? Nothing.

We then left that place, and only wanted to flip it since it was fully upgraded. They took it back after about an hour. I never went near it, and I got gold for defending it.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about Raven!
