Ok I have tried WvW a number of times….I go in to get map completion and everyone says just hook up with a Commander and run with them and you will get it…Yeah right if you stop you get left. Behind if you move along with them you miss what you need…going alone gets you beat down by a zerg of players. So how do we get map completion if we do not have the help that was said we would…I ran with a zerg last night and every time I went for something they had better things to do then to wait for me. I cannot blame them though they are playing WvW not getting world completion and I am just not into the whole getting my butt plastered to the ice and grass every time we fight someone. But I do thank Cest and the guys early this morning for at least letting me join up with them and have somewhat of a good time being that I was confused as hell and had no way of getting them to answer my questions.

I thought this post was going to be some random complain-y rant, and…. It’s exactly what I thought it was.

PvE player? Take off the full zerker gear and put on some knights and/or pvt. WvW is attrition warfare: who can survive the longest not who can dps the most. Ensure you have some easy access to swiftness and/or leaps in your build. You get “left behind” because you are slow or don’t/can’t stay on the commander. L2P issue.

So here’s how this works.

You’re clearly not a WvWer, so of course you’re not going to automatically know what to do. You’re used to going where you want when you want and that, coupled with your inexperience in WvW, is going to get you murdered.

Just like how in an above post you were told to lose the berserker gear and get some pvt (soldier’s) armor, there are real differences to WvW that you won’t be used to. Staying on a commander is a great idea if they’re doing a full circuit of a map – you’ll get the bulk of your POIs that way. But to get your skill points and vistas, you’re going to be left behind.

So? It’s okay if you die – it’s practically mandatory in WvW. But unless you’re on a map that your side is dominating, you’re unlikely to get full map completion in a single week. And hopefully you’re not stuck in a static tier where you are the same colour every week, or you’re going to have a bad time of it.

Go to your home borderland when it’s all/mostly your colour, and do the map. In fact, after you do it switch to any and all of your alts (doesn’t matter if they’re level 80 or not) and do it for them too. You’ll thank me for this later.

Then go to Eternal Battlegrounds and follow a commander. Ideally, you want the third of the map that’s closest to your spawn. If you can get more, fantastic. If not, then it’s easier to wait for the next matchup and hope that you’re a different colour, so that you start in a different corner.

Or, you could join a guild that has a reasonable population (WvW or otherwise) and see if there are a number of people that need/want/are willing to do some WvW map completion, and form your own strength-in-numbers group for it.

So you’re playing with a zerg of ~20/30/40 players, and you expect them to do what you want, to wait for you, and to capture the things you need ?

Welcome to WvW, where you put in 1000 times more effort and get 1/1000th the reward, when compared to PvE.

Those people are on that map to WvW. You’re asking 50 people to go out of their way for you and wait for you and only you (1 random person they never saw before) to get a skill point when you can just get it yourself (I did all map completion alone, and I’m pretty sure most people do it alone)? Because “someone” told you they’d be totally ok with that?

Just do all parts that your world owns and wait until your world owns the spots you’re missing. It just takes patience.

But no one has lied to you. You can get the POIs by following the commander. He or she will take you to many towers, keeps and camps. However, for the vistas and skill points, you will have to realize that you’ll get left behind. Once you’ve done one, you can simply waypoint to the starting area and catch up with the zerg again when you get a chance.

As somone else pointed out, this is not going to be something you do in one day. I WvW all the time with my necro and I’m still missting 2 vistas and 2 skill points in one of the borderlands. However, I’m not really trying for them, either, so I’ll bide my time and get them when I can.

Relax and be patient. Finding a good WvW guild would be good. You will probably make some new friends and they can help you learn the ropes in WvW. Also, do as others suggested and grab yourself one set of PTV gear and make sure to use some minus condition food. If you have some armor/strength boosters/speed boosters, those will also help.

I find the biggest mistake players make in this regard is leaving WvW for the very last, at which point they become frustrated because no, it’s not a walk in the park, just run here and there and done kind of task to get all the stuff you need here.

Check regularly to see if your designated colour for the week has the specific keep/tower on each map that you require for map completion. If not try again later and keep checking. If it does immediately go to WvW and grab that Poi. Rinse and repeat until all are done. The only time that this will not work is if your server is constantly dominated and always one colour.

For the skill points you may, depending on your level and skill require one other person to assist. For vistas not in towers/keeps you can easily get to them by watching and avoiding combat.

Organize 4-5 ppl from your guild that need map-completion as well and a bunch of rams and meet at some off-time of your match (3am? 5am? 11am? depends strongly on your match and tier). You should make map-completion within 1-2hours and rarely meet an enemy and at least outside T1 never a zerg.

If you listen to some of the people below you will never get anywhere.

I know what you are talking about – many WvW servers don’t “talk” to people unless they are on a awful comm system that has more swearing on it and more bad sex jokes than a sailor’s birthday party.

Ask some of us in messages what can help with WvW – we won’t grief you like some have…

Saying “L2P” instead of helping a player know what gear or tactics to use in an unfamiliar area is just mean. Wrong and very mean.

If your servers commanders are no help go it alone. You can really do well roaming with comparatively little knowledge, my advice is look up some twitch streamers. Watch some good roamers play and copy them.

Checkout Oppveretta, flotxara, teamriot, bitcloud or got boons all of them will show you good roaming at work.

Unfortunately, not all locations are easy to take.

For example: Veloka Slope and Jerrifer’s Slough are both very difficult to capture in most situations (depending on the numbers you’re up against and how well they’ve sieged that tower.) All towers have a point of interest in them and in many cases as vista as well. You can follow the zerg hoping that they will manage to capture the locations you need, but hoping is about the best you can do. I understand that you dislike WvW, a lot of people do the same way a lot of people dislike PvE. The only things I can honestly suggest are:
Transferring to a low population server.
Visiting WvW daily to merge with the zerg in hopes that the locations you need will be captured.
Or joining an experienced havoc guild.

Just keep in mind that capturing certain locations is a lot easier said than done.

It takes time and you have to be willing to die which is no big deal, it took me a month or more to get all the POI’s, vistas, and skill points, some with zergs some solo or with one or two other players in the area, funny thing is that I had played very little WvW before wanting to get map completion on my main, I got the completion and have never left because it’s really a lot of fun…

Reroll your build to be more bunker and have a lot more escape. Almost every class has a run-away almost impossible to kill if they don’t want to fight build.

With the exception of POIs behind enemy walls, virtually every POI in WvW is easy to get solo. Worst case, you have to log in during non-peak hours.

Everyone keeps saying something about zerker gear I am not to my knowledge wearing any zerker gear on the toon I have been playing WvW with. But how would I know if it was zerker gear anyway does not actually say zerker. I do not know how to tell if it is or not. From what I am being told I have looked ankitten ot wearing any. Not to sure how to do the builds either I have worked on builds for a while and they all seem to suck so I just do not know what I am doing to get things working right.

And as for dying it is a big deal when everything I need is WAYYYYYYY out across the map and I have only two different way points to go to and everytime I am on my way to get one or all of them I get jumped every time…..and JQ are notorious for attacking people in huge zergs regardless of how many it is. Its like they camp there waiting for the people to come back just to jump them again knowing they are running solo.

And as for joining other guilds just for wvw I won’t do it….I do not run with guilds only my own and I only have myself and my wife in it with 2 friends that do not play no more. lol I am content running with just my wife without joining people that will just drive me out of the game like has happened 2 times before.

I myself don’t have map completion and won’t go for it either but lots of times I’ve seen in map chat while in WvW that ppl QQ’d about missing only 1 POI they couldn’t get. It’s more of a patience game, you’ll have to wait to get different colors.

RuneCrimson you may want to do some forum reasearch on builds specific to WvW for your specific class. Also when people say berserker gear they’re talking about the stats of armor and weapons. For knowledge of that it’s best to look on the wiki.

As other posters have said most times it’s just a waiting game. I know it’s frustrating but you really have to just get what you can when you can. Just acknowledge it will take longer than you anticipated.

Soooo….You don’t even know what gear stats are what, you by your own admission do not understand builds or how to use them…..I think I see why you get killed so often. Research some current builds, from the sounds of it anything will be better than what you are running now, get some runes for speed, don’t bother with others, as from the sounds of it, you don’t want to even try sticking around in the fight and you will just be a rally bot for the other side anyway. Get gear that has healing, toughness and vitality stats in whatever amount you need/want, you are just trying to be tanky and move fast. Use weapon sets that have teleports/speed or other escape abilities, also use traits and utility skills for the same. Best thing would probably be to Google escape or run away build for “whatever class here”, and see whats out there.

This is a competitive game play, running with the zerg IS the way to get it done for people like you. I, like most WvW players, did it all solo. However, don’t expect the zerg to wait, that is NOT what is meant by run with the zerg, no one meant that they will wait for you to finish what they all consider PvE content. What was meant by run with the zerg is to use them as a shield from roamers and following them into keeps/towers for the vistas and POI, as COMs pushing zergs either care about PPT or fights, and waiting for someone to do something like that is just not going to happen. As soon as they get into a keep, go for whatever POI or vista you need, and if it is taking you longer to get them that it is taking them to cap….You are doing it wrong. Also, catching back up is easy, as they are going to be at the next keep/tower getting a wall or door down. If you are in a guild, and I am assuming you are since you said you will not join another guild, I am willing to bet there is someone in it who does WvW who can help you out. Also, get in TS, get in the channel for the BL or EBG that you are on to listen and see where they are going, also asking for help in TS will get you much MUCH further than /s chat, people in WvW tend to ignore it. I have NEVER seen a single player come into TS to ask a WvW player for help, and if they did I would help, but it never happens. I see posts that WvW players cuss like sailors or are really rude or are not social at all, and I would say most PvE people are worse. Every channel I have ever gone into for WvW first thing I always hear is “welcome user!” from at least 2 people, the only time talking is frowned on is when in the middle of a big fight and the COM is giving commands.

Get use to it, get some gear set up, find a good build and by the time you are done, you will probably be 20x better at PvE than before.

We were all new at some point. For most of us doing map completion was our first experiance with WvW also. I experianced similar troubles myself when i got my map completion. Anymore WvW is all i play. I just get bored with pve, and i see WvW is more an end game for me, since i’ve already got rich in PvE & got full ascneded and a legendary.

So 1st of all:
Zerker gear = Berserker (Power, Ferocity, Critical) stats.

They are basically saying make sure you have thoughness and vitality, to ensure you don’t get murdered to quick.

2nd:
As other’s have mentioned your server’s colors change each week, unless you get assigned the same color again, which happens a lot. On eternal battle grounds, you dont need to go accross the map this week, just get your 3rd of the map, close to the WP, and get your borderland map also. If your server is dominating then get as much as you can while your server owns it.

Then the following week, hopfully your server will be a different color, and you can get another borderlands map, and get another 3rd of the battlelands. It sounds like you are trying to rush it, you can just check the wvw maps each day to see what your server owns. Don’t get me wrong you can get map completion rather quickly just following the zerg if you guys are having a good week, because many times your server will invade other servers borderlands.

If you’re patient and check regularly you can get it without much effort in about a months time. Who knows, after playing WvW a bit you might come to love it.

I did WvW countless of times before but never bothered with map completion before taking a long break. I came back recently. I solo’d the most of them in WvW through being tiny and speedy, and also laying low. Only two POIs evaded me since they seemed to be keeps rarely being attacked but through a streak of luck and viciousness we banged down the doors of one and now I am waiting for proper map rotation which seems to be the safest route although the one taking the longest too.

Another idea – which I haven’t really tried myself – when you are desperate: if there is a keep not taken by your but by another server frequently try waiting outside and then rushing through shortly after they broke through but wait until they are up whacking the commander.

when im commanding and a person whispers me he/she needs for example bay vista, i go for it, all the time explaining to the guys on ts what we are doing, knowing the person that asked for the vista is also on ts. then when we manage to flip bay, i make sure 80 man blob escorts him/her safely all the way up to the supply depo.

I’ve done this and so have others in my guild. It works. Might not make it out alive but if you’re careful you can get what you need while they’re busy doing other stuff.

This actually explains a lot, or is one of the best trolls I’ve ever seen lol. I’m going to assume the former.

You can be in up to five guilds – joining a WvW, ideally a sizeable one, for map completion is a perfectly reasonable and normal thing to do. You’ll represent them while you’re in WvW, then go back to your personal/family guild when you’re done. It’s that easy.

As has been pointed out by more eloquent posters than I, you don’t seem to be aware of what your gear is when you’re not looking at it. The whole point about zerker gear was that in WvW (where you are getting insta-killed) is that gear actually matters and is a non-trivial consideration. Because you are not experienced in the ways of WvW, gear and traits that give you survivability in an incredibly hostile game mode.

You’re going to have to either have a really talented small escort group (talented because they will essentially have to carry you) or the protection of a group that’s doing WvW despite you. Like people said – you’ll get the bulk of the POIs you need that way, although not in the order that you may want. Generally, nobody will be concerned that you need map completion because they don’t need it… much the same as you don’t care about the fights or the flipping of objectives despite reaping the benefits you get in PvE as a result.

So… stay with the group and grab what you can along the way, or get better and get the rest of the points yourself. For you, gear and trait up and stick with people who know what they’re doing. It won’t be as fast as you’re used to in PvE and you definitely won’t be the captain of your own ship, but you’ll get there. The bulk of us with legendaries and a star next to our name will attest to that.

Out of curiosity what server are you on? some of the folks in this thread might be on the same server and could help you get some decent gear (P/T/V from Ascalon Catacombs would be good) and run around wvw for a bit with you.

may i ask what class you are?

if you are one of the following and you cant catch up with a commander even if you wait a full minute then you do something wrong:
Warrior (sword/warhorn + greatsword + bullsrush with traits for gs and warhorn for permanent swiftness give you the best movement)
Thief (25% movement speed signet + shortbow skill 5 port + 1200 range Shadowstep + healing skill fast backwards roll + sword skill 2 teleport)
Ele (25% movement speed signet + Lightning Flash with lower cooldown + burning speed on fire attunement and Ride the lightning on air attunement
and you can switch to staff in between for 20 second swiftness from air attunement and a fast backwards roll with huge distance on fire attunement)

it is still not too hard to catch up with:

mesmer (trait blink range and cooldown + equip focus),
guardian (shouts + staff for permaswiftness + greatswordleap + switch to sword for blink towards animals/enemies)
ranger (greatsword rush +sword backwardsroll + lightninx reflexes directly before/after it and then turn around and use the forwards leap + also 25% movement speed signet + warhorn for swiftness)

if you dont waste time and go in and out and ignore lord/cap and just go for the Vistas and Pois inside of keeps and towers directly (you want world completition and not wvw ranks and rewards) you can make it with engineer and necro too and only sometimes you get a bit behind

Engineer (permanent swiftness from kits + rocket boots)
Necromancer (25% movement speed signet + worm teleport -you can skip some cliffs with it and maybe escape enemies- and ~30 second swiftness + teleport back if you get ganked on spectral walk)

you dont need to be with the commander to get the vistas and any poi that you want
you can just walk into the towers and keeps even if the zerg is long gone as long as they are yours (for 5 minutes no enemy can cap it anyway)

just take some defensive builds with maximum movement then you cant get killed that easy and you have more time to escape before you die and you also escape easier

(a simple 1 minute time spent on google would easily solve that problem with knowing what zerker means btw… you really could have thought of that yourself^^)

so dont expect to get everything done so fast and easy already
especially not pvp related things!
just take yourself time and check wvw maps everyday and see if you can get any poi/vista at that time

It sounds like you have a lot of research to do on your own about game mechanics since you are not interested in joining a guild. The official wiki is a great source of information. Here is the link to discussion about gear: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment

Also look in the class subforums on this site because a lot of people post suggested builds with gear to use. Knowing this information will also help you go far in PvE too, especially dungeons and fractals. You’ll be much more efficient at accomplishing tasks in PvE.

My biggest tip: Represent a WvW guild. You can be in multiple guilds lat once, but may only represent one at a time. By opening the guild panel, you can swap around as necessary. Having that team to help you is huge, and sometimes WvW players get bored and may be interested in helping you out rather than following the blue Dorito.

And making yourself known in the WvW community, even as just a name seen frequently and not a great pvp’er will help you gain support to move in your direction. People in WvW who are interested in WvW in all honesty do not actually care about you or your map completion unless you’re willing to fight for your server and the bigger WvW goals. WvW is fast-moving and success is dependent on a lot of things. A huge group of players can’t afford to sidetrack from moving across the map in less than a minute in order to defend a critical tower/camp/keep. Effectively asking groups for map completion in WvW, which mostly consist entirely of guilds in themselves, is like a level 1 new player whom you’ve never met before asking you to run them through map completion while you’re still trying to finish yours. It seems awfully ridiculous and pretentious.

If you want to get it done fast, you’re going to need people, and in order to get people, you’re going to need to step beyond your comfort zone and dive into a populated group of players who may be willing to help, or earn their friendship to warrant them helping you out over that change to PPT.

make friend with a nice solo roamer and have him/her take you to what you need.

What exactly is OP’s question or critique here? It should be common human sense that 30+ people won’t wait for one random dude who just wants to go off tangent and farm something for himself.

Are you by chance the Mes on Blackgate that was talking about map completion in EB a day ago?

People tell you to follow a commander because zerg surfing is your best chance to get all the POI’s, Vista’s ect ect. This doesn’t mean they are just running a train to get that stuff, there is a point to WvW that has nothing to do with map completion and most Commanders are working towards this whether its fighting for PPT or fighting the enemy.
