So it seems the easiest way to get exotics for WvW is either crafting or buying them, problem is you don’t really get many mats and no gold for doing WvW. I generally use Berserker’s and Knight’s so trying to save up badges for invaders gear is out. I ended up with enough stuff to craft one exotic by the time I hit 80 and the rest I’m using rares b/c it’s what I could afford. How to most people that just do WvW go about getting exotics?

I’ve never run a dungeon in GW2 and don’t plan to so don’t tell me to go do that.

Just wondering if I’m missing something, or what advice people have on getting them without grinding dungeons?

You can find them, rarely, but they are there. You can use badges to buy them, though it takes some time, I was able to get a piece a week at the very least myself. The easiest way though, and probably the best way atm, is to use the karma you are getting from dailies, monthlies, and wvw and buy God Temple Armor which is really pretty good if you do some research. The new added jewelry and back items are pretty awesome tbh.

Most people run the dungeons, but you can buy your exotics on the market (if you can scrounge up enough gold) with the stats you want. You also can go to Orr and spend your Karma on the exotics there, but that depends entirely on whether or not your server has the merchants available.

Sell the materials you gather in WvW to supplement your own crafting or buy equipment from the Trade Broker. You also rack up a good deal of Karma in WvW, so as other suggest, check out the exotic gear offered by Karma Vendors. Depending on who you’re facing, a well placed Arrow Cart or Ballista can provide you enough loot to make up for the cost (especially if you’re also defending a location and getting credit for the dynamic event).

I believe my server does have the merchants up most of the time and I’ve looked at those pieces online, but they don’t seem to have the combinations of stats I’m looking for. In this case the Berserk and/or knight stats. I use both sets depending on what build I’m using at the time. I do have around 200k Karma saved up though.

You are also right about getting pieces occasionally in WvW and I have salvaged them for ectos, but even doing that I’ve probably averaged 1 ecto a week.

I’m not a hardcore player, I pay a few hours at most after work during the week all in WvW. Maybe a few minutes outside to finish off a daily or something. Seems like I’d either best just stick with rares or spend real money on gold to buy stuff. I think I make like maybe 1 gold a day doing WvW. I’ve never spent real money on in-game stuff for any game before, but to be honest I’m starting to feel like all the hours of my time is worth a lot more to me than 30 or 40 bucks. Maybe I’m just getting old hehe.

I’ve actually gotten a few exotics from drops off of enemies. I think only one was applicable to my class though .. but there’s always alts

I play a lot of WvW and I bank between 1-4 gold a night (depending on drops and how many objectives are taken or if it’s boring defense). I have gotten 2 exotic drops in WvW ever (almost 1000 hours on my warrior, easily 850 of it in WvW). You are best off running a dungeon for the gear and do each path once a day. I think Arah’s is the only place with Knight’s though and that one has one farmable path. If you stick to banking a gold every time you make one and sell your rares on the trading post, you shouldn’t take that long to get full exotics, although it takes about 40g to full gear a character with weapons and armor and trinkets if you don’t buy them off the tp. At least you can get more ascended jewelry now just by doing dailies/monthlies.

I got an exotic through the EB jumping puzzle chest. Unfortunately it was level 77. ^^

Farming fractals. Also I get occasional drops in WvW.

I get a the exotics same way as I get a the harlot, I pays for it!

Over 1100+hrs in wvw, gotten 4 x exotic drops-
Berserker amulet which for some reason was BoP- into the mystic toilet with it!
Named trident, which even given my dislike for water combat- I still actually use
Named axe, which had a pretty cool viking style skin, was going to keep it for an alt, but I don’t get time for alts, I work hard in wvw Sold!
Named sword, looked like a big tuning fork and had to kill a big zerg to get it, went same way as the axe for the same reasons.

1x Minstrel precursor off a veteran wolf that just wouldn’t bugger-off while we where trying to take Durios, I think I dumped 1 hit on it and ding it dropped. Part of me kind of wanted to make it, then I realized the sheer time/cash investment to make something which was actually fairly mediocre was crazy town. Sold to 25g to the highest bidder!

The problem with karma armor is that if you aren’t a healing class, you have to buy the tank set. Only 5 pieces ever come with the same stat so you can’t buy a full set of Soldier’s gear with karma. Soldier’s gear is also the only thing that badges can buy. So, the two things that WvW players have the most of, badges and karma, can only be used to buy the same tanky sets of armor. Granted, Prec/Tough/ConDmg is great for Necros, and the healing set is ok for a guard, but the karma armor is generally not useful (read: dynamic) in WvW either. Basically, you get more variety from a dungeon. WvW tokens are so difficult to get (although I do have 4.1k now), that I wish they gave more than one option for armor/weapons. It’s not like you didn’t have to work your kitten off to get the tokens in the first place.

What Esoteric said is exactly the problem I’m having. I have badges and karma from WvW, but can’t buy any gear that actually useful to me with it. I need gold/mats to buy/craft the gear I want, but you don’t get much of these things from WvW. It would be nice if they just gave more than one option from badges, they act like everyone who plays WvW is going to want to use that one set.

Edit: He’s also correct that the gear choices you get from the Karma vendors isn’t much better.

if your at all serious about your spec and class you need to either buy crafted gear (not all stat combinations are available) or get the dungeon gear. (some karma gear can be useful but they more than likely wont have the stats you need). Perhaps in feb patch they will address this, but for now those are your choices

IF u want those stat… and u FEEL that u NEED them… than u have to make a little sacrifice…

berserk is actually one of the most easy to acquire set… cause CoF that is the easiest and shortest dung of the game has it…

a full run (all 3 path) with experienced pug (not even talking about a guild party) wil take more or less an hour… even less if u’r luky with your party composition… that are 180 taken from dungeon completation + around 18 token from boss drop (avarage, sometime more sometim less)… it mean that u will have an avarage of 2 piece of armor every 3 day (most economic piece is 180 most expansive is 300+) and 2/3 day per weapon set… so a full set of armor + 2h weapon and 2 1h weapon will take 1hour a day for 13 day… this if u buy everything with token… but at the same time as u do the dungeon for the token u will also gather some money… 1 full run (all 3 path as mentioned above) is around 4 gold or even more if u got luky with random drop… so u will probably only need half the time above mentioned cause u will probably buy half the set with token and half with gold…

total: 1 week of 1hour per day dedicated to run dungeon in order to have a full suit of armor + weapon (and possibly even some jewel)…

it doesn’t seem to much… and once u’r done with your set u can kiss godbuy to dungeon for the rest of your life on gw2…

actually I dedicate most of my time to WvW… but still run a few dungeon a week just to stay on the good end with money and being able to invest in keep upgrade for my guild without having to warry about the next repair or my food running out…

u don’t need to grind a dung for month in order to complete a set like it happen in many other games… completing an exotic set in pve is so much easy that just stubbornly search for other way simply cause u DON’T WANT TO DO PVE is pretty silly…

but still is your choice… u can save every single penny of what u gather from running all your game time in WvW and buy your set in a month or so… or do it within a week sacrificing only one hour a day and than dedicated all your effert to WvW without the handicap of lower/inapropriate equip ^^

do dungeons, easier…. casually, do them consistently for 2 weeks, and you’ll get your full set….

getting the WvW soldier (P/T/V) exotics using badges is way too slow, unless you get a lot of badges every day…..
