Expiring tournament rewards for september
That is indeed a pretty suboptimal solution.. i dont get why we cant just get the tickets immediately after contributing enough to wvw, like those living story achievement chests..
Ask a friend to log in for you and collect the reward?

Pretty much my only option, and even then I’m still getting 3/4 of the server’s reward.
I can see the argument that missing a week means I deserve less, but not with the amount of time I was planning on putting in. And it definitely shouldn’t prevent the reward for week 1. I don’t see any real reason for that one.
The only way you’d miss the tickets for that week would be if you were going to be gone from before reset Friday and coming back after the following reset. But yeah if that’s the case you’re screwed.
But yeah if that’s the case you’re screwed.
It is, and I believe I am. I’ll be away 11 days total.
This makes no sense.
I just lost a weeks WvW rewards (week 1) after putting 60 hours into a loss.
Are we to understand that we simply lose credit for doing something in a computer game?
Key word is “computer”… which are inherently more than capable of retaining data… such as a player reward record.
There is absolutely no good reason for players to “lose” credit for their contribution.
This oversight will negatively impact many players as it has me and I plan to open a ticket on this matter ASAP.
I hope that more of you are able to join me in making Anet aware of this problem in hopes that they will fix it.
Thanks
I am not happy with this system.
I missed last weeks reward because I did not pay enough attention to the in game messages. I do not remember receiving an in game mail the first time around, just a pop up which I by second nature closed instantly. Luckily I did read the mail sent this time around, assuming one was sent last week. I’m sure one may very well have been that I deleted and only partially read.
I can see very few reasons behind this system to deliver rewards. Forfeit to “encourage” players to, log into guild wars. However I do not find this a very, fun, system were an easy oversight on my part means I’ve missed some tickets.
It may be fair that I have missed my rewards but it is not a kind or friendly system, from my view.
At the very least, I feel I should have been able to pick up any reward from any week, a week after the close of the season.
These are just my thoughts and feelings.

I missed my rewards too. I play wvw all the time, it’s just not my habit to talk to the battle historian and I assumed this season, like the last two, would give all rewards at the end of the tournament. Yeah they told me in text but I missed it since most of the messages the game sends me can be skimmed and immediately deleted.
This sucks.
I like to be kept up to date with what is going on, and participating in events. I knew when the spring tournament started, and worked hard to make sure i would get some reward at the end. which i did. But like many people, don’t read everything.
I knew when the Fall tournament would start, and knew it would only be four weeks. but i didn’t know i only had a week to pick up the rewards for each match up. i didnt realize i lost out on picking up my week one reward till today. shouldn’t a historian know who won when and who picked up their reward?
anyways, my point is there is always a group of people that dont read everything, and rewards that expire DURING a tournament does not feel right. i do like that rewards are given weekly, but am also annoyed at the short expiration.
Do you guys read your in game emails?
“Congratulations! You’ve recieved a tournament reward chest. Visit the Battle Historian during the next match to receive your reward. Unclaimed rewards will be forfeited by the end of the next match.”
They were pretty clear about this.
Hey, what is this new reward system? I had to go away for a few days and now that I am back I am unable to retrieve my reward for week 1 because week 2 has started?
How lame is that? Nothing else in the game gives rewards only available temporary. I spent like 20 hours in the first WvW weeks and all of that for nothing because on top of removing the achievements you also messed up the rewards? They were bugged in the previous seasons but at least they were not taken away from you because you didn’t log in; warning or not this is just stupid.
Must I contact support just for 200 of the WvW reward item?

Looks like it’s a way for Anet to keep players logging into the game every week, or as I like to call it, alienating its playerbase by punishing them for having responsibilities/unfortunate events that keep them away from the game.
Why do you think you earned a reward for being away?
Why do you think you earned a reward, if you do not inform yourself about the conditions of it ahead of time?
Why do you think you earn a reward for being to lazy or busy to take it?
I think, if you aren’t able or willing to spend 6min (1 for taking the reward, 5 to make 5 events) per week in WvW you are did not earned a reward.

I would think that they simply CAN’T save the rewards at the battle-historian, seeing as you can transfer server in the middle of the tournament and as such it would probably kitten up the whole system if someone transferred.
Sure they could use mails, which they did earlier, and there were massive kittenstorms every time due to some people not getting their mail.
And to be fair it is very clear in-game (and outside for that matter) that you have one week to get the rewards.

Can’t or won’t put the effort in?
Anyways, overall I think they’ve managed rewards better this season if we look at how the rewards were handled previously, but previous management of rewards hardly set a good precedence.
My friend was saying he thinks he forgot to collect his reward last week, despite doing what was needed which sucks for him.
People can say its your fault you didn’t collect, which is true however that doesn’t change the fact people feel annoyed and frustrated with missing out over something that could be managed better by ANet.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

Well considering that you can go do 5 objectives in EotM and then go talk to an NPC at the end of the week, I’d hardly call the current system “earning the reward.” The only significant requirement is being available to log into the game at some point during the “pickup” phase.
I don’t have any problem with the reward being easy to obtain – because its easiness benefits me – but I am saddened to see people missing rewards, who probably invested way more actual game time into the tournament than I have.

Can’t with the current setup. But then again, why waste the effort when people would still find something to complain about no matter how they did it?

Welcome to a MMO forum.

Indeed, so why bother? It works as it is now, so why spend time and resources on something that still won’t be appreciated?

Meh. Don’t bother then, see what happens to your game.

Context is quite important.
If you read my whole post, I quite clearly also states that this system works as it is now, and therefore they don’t really need to spend time and resources on it.

luckily the rewards are crappy so you didn’t miss much.

Arena net I mean come on, you send us in game mail telling us exactly what to do and when to do it by. You give us a whole week to do it in. And now I don’t wanna play wvw becuase I missed one reward.

You’re right however look at how the previous 2 seasons rewards were kittened up. I would hazard a guess that this solution was arrived at to overcome those problems. However as you and the OP state it creates new problems which I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t even considered by anet. The ideal solution would be to make the rewards be able to be received as soon as you earn the achievement. They give out chests through the achievement system once an achievement is gained why can’t it be done in this case?

And how would that work with the current system where the reward is based on placement in the finished match-up?

I must say: I do not really see the point sending an email telling me I can get my now rewards there and there. Sending the rewards directly via this email would have been the better solution.

Most of these tournaments are so mismatched they could give out the rewards before the match starts. What a fun and competitive game…

Which they did during the first tournaments, and there were issues with it with people not receiving the correct mail (or a mail at all) which created massive kittenstorms. So clearly that didn’t work out well either.

I’m sorry but when your complaint is, “i don’t get rewards because of real life,” sometimes that’s how it goes when u play in video game land.
