IT FEELS LIKE ANET JUST MADE OUR ENTIRE SERVER TRANSFER TO OTHER SERVER

we like the population boost, made WvW more lively. new friends to meet, more active battles. 2 servers fighting beside each other as a team is fun! its something different!!

over all its good update EXCEPT:

server loyalty means alot to us.
we would like our server name that we have been fighting for years beside our hard earned WvW rank… but our server name changed into a different servername.. we dont even have our precious Devonas Rest borderlands to defend anymore…
this change makes us feels like we got transfered. and not a world link/merge

1 server not having a borderland is not good..

also this 150 people que is the best evar..

maybe…should have made it 2vs2vs2 servers… 2 borderlands each team color. more maps, less que, correct? dont we have alpine and desert borderlands ready? so why not make 2 borderlands for each team color with their own server names?
this way we can still be merged, have our own borderlands, our own server names. and less que.
i am sure it wont be that hard to remember the enemy server name on which team color they are in.. i dont think it will be confusing at all…
if you do forget which team color is the enemy on sight, then just press B to check…
6 way battle is going to be something interesting and very fun

anet wanted to bring back more people for WvW but might end up loosing more… cause of their decision to transfer 10 servers… its not a merged ITS A TRANSFER

Honestly, I’ve been calling for a server merge for years. This move makes me want to come back to gw2 to play.

If the PVE wall is still there, I’ll just go back to Eve.

me likes new changes and merge… but need to make it balanced equally … i dont have any negative thingy about Maaguma server like i said they were nice to us while we were running on reset night.

It definitely sucks for the people who enjoyed the quieter servers or the server pride but it might be something you have to deal with for a while till Anet can find a more solid fix for population imbalances. Its a start though and hopefully with constructive criticism, we can get it to a place where everyone is happy.

If you are going to merge servers, then I suggest that it is done in such a way that none of the names of the servers show. @Barricka, thanks for trying to keep the conversation civil. Some previous posts were clearly in violation of the forum Code of Conduct and do not belong in civil conversation.

To address yours (and to some limited sense DJ’s post), the current way mergers links are being handled cannot be said to align to the Devona’s Rest community play style. I was on DR for the first two years of the game and always enjoyed playing with all of you, and I think that what you guys are experience now is a culture shock… a blob (throughout most of the week) on DR would barely draw orange swords and a group >5 wasn’t really considered roamers.

The higher tiers are much faster pace, and the groups are much larger. There’s very little you can do against a server blob. You can delay the inevitable by siege disablers, shield generators, and inventive anti-siege siege placement. However, the numbers drawn can often be too much.

All of that being said, there’s some definite hype going on this week. I’m personally hoping that things cool down during the week and maybe normalize next week or the week after. At that point, the more traditional DR tactics may be realized in the DBLs. Until then, I would suggest that you save your siege, try some more aggressive tactics, and only play defensively when the opportunity is just right.

In a few weeks, we’ll all have a better idea when everything normalizes, and I sincerely believe and hope that DR does not have to abandon their play style once that happens. I think that the DR ethos can live in the DBLs, but it’s going to be much harder to maintain than it was in Bronze. If that’s not the case, this is a Beta, and I’m sure that we’ll all have an opportunity to weigh in (however much that matters is another question).

To the server identity concern, I couldn’t agree more. It’s pretty ridiculous what they did to the mergered linked servers in terms of how they’re identified and how their contribution counts toward their home server.

TL;DR: Wait for the hype to die, and you may find that DR’s play style has a place in this tier.

I am glad that you came across some nice members of the other server as some of us have not had the same experience. I just posted about it and this same player stated that I should avoid WvW all together. This is also one of many players on that server that was overly rude.

I’m a PVEer on Fissure of Woe, one of the candidates for worst WvW server in the game. Back when I was map completing I stumbled across its one busy night per month; I joined in and quite enjoyed it. I went back every night for a week, but it was a ghost town. I thought about a server transfer, but it turned out I could buy Dishonored and Far Cry 3 for the price of the transfer so I did that instead.

Now we’re tacked onto Gunnar’s Hold, and I’m looking at WvW forums and reading build guides…

I have no interest in or loyalty to my server. I don’t give a juvenilecat about it. I stayed on it because it cost money to move, and stayed out of WvW. I wish WvW had never used “worlds”, I’d rather it had used dynamic map allocation like PvE megaservers (which worked great).

some of us spent money to transfer to low tier servers because having smaller focused groups is alot more fun to us than running around in gigantic blobs where what we do literally doesnt matter. Ive already sent in a support ticket as i paid for server transfer a couple weeks before they made this change. I either want my gems back, or my server back. either or

Oh my goodness. You guys are literally offended over words that not many people even read.

As a solution, I’d say have little badges next to people’s names that represent their server. We spent a good portion of the weekend trying to find people from AR, and it was pretty hard. Our names should also show our true server when seen by enemies, rather than the host server’s name. Otherwise I don’t really think any changes are actually needed.

And no, having a 2v2v2 would be ridiculous. Even in more populated tiers, it would be a huge pain for a single server (even with it’s merged counterpart,) to defend 7 different maps, let alone during off hours. I would rather have a second EB-like map added to deal with massive queues before adding a second set of borderlands. And you’re literally only suggesting this so that your “home BL” is labeled with your home server – that’s really it. Written words. On a map.

In regards to play style and in-house conflicts between servers, I’m just gonna say it – get over it. You can try convincing anet to link your server with someone else, but learning each other’s play styles and working with it is a significantly easier tactic. Most of AR are probably small groups, and we’ll learn to work with that just like they’ll learn to work with our siege. At least now you’ll have more action and more variety with who you fight =)

I’m not going to go in specifics about the direction of my post but I will say one thing about all this.

Most of the players QQ’ing about the world linking were not involved in the past discussions about population imbalance nor the thread about the poll of the Top 5 WvW priority’s. They’re all an after affect.

It’s probably been mentioned, but it was actually 12 servers.

I’m on SF, after the pairing and seeing numbers this weekend on the new lowest tier, it was a cultural shock, and thats a situation of basically not moving up, just more bodies grouped. I can’t imagine what some that spent years around T7/T8 going in to Tier 1 to Tier 3 must be feeling so far. But, I imagine, they now know what a blob is.

Also on SF, and for me the big culture shock is the feeling of being 1v4 all the time now. I don’t know why NSP was chosen as the host server for this merge, but the population feels only slightly higher than it did previously when it was just SF, whereas the borderlands are now always populated, I’m always outnumbered, and EB is a waste of time because the zerg is always outnumbered and the enemy roamers move in small groups instead of 1-2 players who can actually be engaged in a reasonable fight.

I actually sorta understand the frustration. I mean, I’m on FoW (have been since I started playing, recently moved to Piken for a couple weeks to get some action after everyone on FoW seemingly died and then moved back after worlds were linked) and whilst it’s not such a culture shock for ME, for the guys that were there it has been. On one hand it’s always nice not to have so much downtime between fights, there’s not so much aimlessly running around trying to find a real enemy. But on the other, some people are worried that our server, and the other smaller servers, are just going to be forgotten about and effectively just transferred into bigger ones. Yes we have playstyles, yes we have certain guilds or groups that would cover certain time periods (yes, nightcap included) and yes, it very much feels like none of that really matters now, because the bigger server (in our case Gunnar’s) sorta handles all of that already.

They have more people and so therefore the playstyle most everyone goes with is that one, because that makes sense. That’s fine, but that means in some cases it feels like the smaller servers don’t have a role anymore besides filling up numbers. Obviously this isn’t any one server’s fault, but it’s frustrating all the same. My friend, who previously commanded FoW’s nightcrew, put it nicely: It feels as though we’re some sort of mercenary server.

Also about the whole naming thing, I was a little surprised that the names were kept as the bigger server’s and not a combination of both. Like, I sorta half expected that if I were to run into a UW player, he’d have a UW tag, and if it were an FSP player, he’d have a FSP tag. But instead it’s all FSP. It’s like UW just doesnt exist anymore, because all I see on map callouts is “FSP this” “FSP that”. I imagine thats the same for everyone else.

But in any case, as a roamer none of this sorta stuff bothers me as much as it bothers the OP. But I can fully understand some concerns and I think Anet needs to look at some potential ways to keep those smaller servers relevant outside of just numbers and make sure that credit is going where credit’s due.

As I would understand, until they have sufficient data and feedback to make adjustments, try another way or just can the idea. There was never an official time stamp put on it.
