I’m not the only one getting fps drops in wvw right? Mostly zerg on zerg battles? Normally my fps is around 40-60 normally but when theres a zerg fight it drops like skrillex drops the bass. It tends to then stay around at 13-20 fps. Am I the only one with this problem?
no this is normal. Because you need to render and process more models your GPU gets taxed. Also, having a good cpu and decent ram 8g+ will go a long way. You can always adjust the settings in graphics and reduce the quality and count of the models which will have a decent impact on your fps.
There is no machine powerful enough to handle a big WvW zerg in GW2. The client is not very well optimized.
‘WvW’ type games have been on the rise in popularity in recent years. However, it is not exactly easy given current technology to give it tolerable fps for all players. It’s just an inherent problem in the way these games play.
My fun laughs at your server pride.

Completely agree.. I have a massive gaming rig, but even I get FPS drops when I’m closing in on a zerg..
However, with the update in August they are making some (I believe) changes that could impact the WvWvW lag: When a lot of effects are shown, the client will automatically drop the level of detail for the stacked animations.. Might be a good start to get all the lag out..

I found disabling reflections and shadows has let my computer run zergs alot smoother, whilst still keeping char limit at max and char detail on medium. Char detail is another thing to drop to get more performance. I imagine a zerg taxes even an OC’d 6c/12t socket 2011.
Mostly though it’s a CPU thing, the game devours CPU.
During zergs it will be anet’s server bottlenecking you most of the time as long as your settings are sensible relative to the computers specs.

FPS drop in GW2 is mostly a CPU issue, not GPU. The game engine in GW2 is very poorly optimized … it puts most of the rendering burden on the CPU and doesn’t even properly use multiple cores of the CPU.

I have a AMD Phenom™ 9750 Quad-Core Processor. It is very outdated, however, still has 4 cores. Apparently Guild Wars 2 isn’t optimized to use all of them efficiently?
I have same problems recently. I don’t have a new PC but never had huge issues against zergs (except skill lag :p). However it’s about 1 month that the situation has worsened with tremendous fps drop.
