Existing WvW system has a serious problem – it frequently results in uneven match-ups that result in ultra-low participation from dominated side (getting spawn camped) and dominating side (nothing to do).

Fellow forum posters discussed various reason as to why this is happening. To sum them up:

1. Disproportional influence of ‘night crew’ on the outcome of the match
2. Hard to recover from blow-out loss and retake fully upgraded keeps
3. Dominance of numbers

All of the above creates a situation where irrecoverable disadvantage state is seen way too often.

My personal suggestion/approach to tackle point distribution system to allow compensate for 1-3.

Suggestion #1: Award points based on participation. Night capping crew doing PvDoor should not have the same, or sometimes greater, impact than prime-time WvW crew that fights opposition.

1a. Implement 75% penalty to point generation for invaders that have two other sides at “outnumbered”.
1b. If participation is less than 10% of prime, cut all point generation by 50%.
1c. Home borderland is excepted from 1a and 1b.

1a and 1b would re-tune effects of night capping on a total point accumulation. Ideally, 10% of population playing at night should have 10% impact on total score, not 50%+ it does right now.

Suggestion #2. Reward defending and holding your own borderland above taking points in other maps.

2a. When outnumbered in your own BL, get 50% more points generated from assets in home BL.
2b = 1c. Recapturing your home BL should always be a clear priority.
2c. Implement stored resource decay to lessen impact of “fully upgrade, max supplies” on the follow-up engagements.

Suggestion #3. Give an edge to small but coordinated group over random PUG zerg. Right now numbers dominate too much and player skill is not nearly as important.

3a. More and better combos. implement multi-step combos.
3b. Implement “rescue” powers – right now you have very limited options to help your team mate in trouble if you are not a guardian. GW2 needs more group-oriented utility powers implemented for all classes.
3c. Better “raid” interface to help better coordinate groups.
3d. Implement guild alliances and /alliance channel.

In closing, I would like to add that I like kittens and greatly enjoy such kitten-friendly community, but lets keep on topic and stay kitten-free in this thread.
