The three leagues (gold, silver and bronze) depend on the possition in the ranking.
The ranking changes depending on the matchup assignment, mainly due because with the same performance you steal rating to the other servers depending on the current rating.
This means that if you fight one week after another against lower servers your opportunities to steal rating to other servers are low.
Baruch is having this problem during the last weeks. At the moment (12th) we are destroying servers with much less rating: Miller (17th) and Ranik (19th) but we can not climb to our real performance position due to the fact that we are assigned to fight lower servers.
As example, Abbaddon is not a better server than Baruch and atm is stealing more than 35k points to better rated servers.
The system should take into account your previous matchups because it could happen that a server with good performance would be located in a lower league just by random matchup assignments with lower servers.
This is unfair and does not reflect current performance.

Nop, I would like the opportunity to fight against servers with higher rating instead fighting servers 5-7 positions below.
The glicko assignement system can make you fight against lower servers one after another.
If we had fought against Gunnar and Jade this week we would be probably be in the golden league. As we are assigned to fight one and again against lower rated servers we can not climb in the list.
Our position in the ranking does not show our current performance.

I’m from baruch and i have to agree with him, last 3 weeks we were fighting against weaker servers, and we are trying to fight to reach top 9 again (to be on gold league on the next one), and we are finding that with this sistem based all on luck it’s not fair the actual leaderboard. And as he said we won Abaddon for about 40k points, and now because they had “luck” fighting against higer rated servers they are close to be on a higer place on the leader than us.
Of course they are doing a awesome performance wining Jade and GH, but I don’t think it’s really fair that with this they can be on higer tiers than other servers who can beat by a lot them. I think that the sistem should have to do the MU’s more accuarate on ranking points, because now we started (rating):

Miller – 1 524.748
Ranik – 1 467.823
Now we are winning them by almost the double, and we are +11.505 . So, while some servers just wining them by 1.000 points can earn lots of rating (or even losing they can win rating), other servers due to the unfair system can loose lots of rating (or wining really few) just by wining them for a lot of points.
So the point of this posts, is to have fair matchups so we can have a more accuarate leaderboard.

I agree with you guys that the system really isn’t fair when it comes to these ratings. We had the same situation last week against Kodash (1st) and Jade Sea (3rd), where Kodash won with 80k points over us, but they dropped in rating a lot due to our rating. http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/23/138
I think a way to solve this problem is really just making the ratio between higher ranked servers and lower ranked servers lower. It is “okay” if a higher ranked server is up against a lower ranked opponent and lose a little rating, but the amount of rating that some servers lose in matches they win by a landslide, is insane. Though it is kind of a bandage solution, as another system should really be found to replace it, but i have a feeling Anet likes bandage solutions…

I see the issue being that it’s a 3-way battle. 1st and 2nd place fight each other so regardless of who 3rd place hits, it’s a 2v1, meaning almost always the 3rd place/rank server is ‘stealing’ the rating points. The only times this seems to be untrue is when a server has recently become stronger or weaker due to transfers or another reason and the rating simply has not caught up yet.
As far as leagues go, however, the issue is largely that the cutoff for transfers goes all the way up until leagues begin, so the ratings being used are completely inaccurate as they do not reflect all the last-minute transferring.
The cutoff should be a few weeks prior to the season beginning, and there should be some sort of pre-season meta achievement to prevent “tanking”

All irrelevant in light of coverage gaps. Until coverage and overall population gap issues are adressed, this entire system is pointless.
What do the leagues reflect ? Who got most transfers and/or bought most guilds ?
