There are only two problems in my opinion :

-The JP being 4 of the achievements when they don’t contribute at all in the war effort (and actually as someone pointed out, hurt it when people take places to do them when so many players are awaiting in queus for hours to fight a little) only 1 achievement for all of those would have been more than enough.

-The number of achievement needed for the meta. It should be lower, if you get between 8 and 10 of the achievements you can they you have actively participated to the ligue anyway (except for the JP ones of course) and you can still have played it the way you are more suited to or want to. Use siege weapons or roam play in CBE or frontals as you want.
Or if they really want to get us to try out a little of everything they could have split all achievement like they did with player count. One little to say we have tested out the thing and a bigger one to say we master it.

Easy one :
-10 players (already implemented)
- 1 Stonemist
- 3 walls/gates
-5 fort
- 10 supply
- 20 sentry
-20 dollyaks
-do one of the 4 JP

Then an advanced one with the number they have now. and only one achievement for JP doing at least once all four of them. Then the player could have chosen how they wanted to contribute to WvW.

But they won’t change that now, hope it gets better in the 2nd season.

I want to support the OP’s point that some of these achievements are absolutely relentless. This is especially problematic when they reinforce bad or artificial gameplay, like tagging yaks. Also, the devs should have foreseen that a lot of these achievements become harder rather than easier in the season format, where servers are overloaded, PC kills are easier, but captures and NPC kills are harder to get.

I would argue that tagging/killing yaks is a good achievement. Everytime you kill one your getting 3 points for your server. But I do agree with your point regarding artificial gameplay. I just think the node achievement would be a better example. I am seeing PvE players going around capping nodes when there is no reason to do so (we already own the node buff on the map etc).

yep did my meta this morning.
It’s not really hard. 450 kills many players did at reset already.
for the demolition expert you don’t have to use rams, catas or trebs… i haven’t used one of them and got the needed 30 points. Only thing you have to do is to make enough damage on a gate.

50 ruins are boring but if you play with 2 friends you can get the bloodlust for your server on all three maps easily.

JP’s are the worst thing because they don’t have anything to do with wvw except that they are there. But the 4 jp’s are done fast. the three bl jp’s need around 5 minutes each and the eb jp takes around 15 minutes. Half an hour wasted but there are other things i would complain about more.

and you don’t have to get it this week. you have 7 weeks to finish it. If your matchup is bad at the moment, next week perhaps you will be the strongest server.

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this way. I hope the Devs see this post and understand that achievements could be handled better in WvW.

It is a big shame we’re stuck with this for 7 weeks though – I very much doubt any changes will be made before season 2.

Defensive Ach’s – I didn’t mention these on purpose as, quite simply, they can be exploited very easily. But leaving them out says a lot about the current state of WvW. Something I hope is fixed sooner rather than later.

Will take the advice to try doing Stonemist on reset day. Maybe the queue gods will smile upon me. Cause this week is the most balanced matchup possible. Most balanced. And the waypoint in Stonemist is half done. If it’s not changing hands now, it’s not going to happen later. #League winner problems

The mercenary one is nuts. Got to laugh at the guy saying other people will come and finish the event. Yeah, they will. These people are red and come from other servers. We have people from both opposing servers camping out in those camps and waiting for the events to spawn. The only chance to get it is to come with your own team and wipe the campers and then hang out doing nothing yourself waiting for the event to spawn, which, as the reason we are winning is NOT a tendency towards doing useless crap like camping the mercenary camps, is not particularly popular.

The one achievement that really stands out as being a bit silly is the ruins capping achievement. It’s encouraging people to run around in circles capturing ruins when their server already has Bloodlust. This is made even more frustrating by the fact that there are people doing this whilst other objectives on the same map are in dire need of attention: objectives that will actually count towards how well your server does.

I don’t really mind this happening during the less busy times in WvW, but when there’s a massive queue full of budding everyday WvWers that can’t get in because there’s 10 or so achievement hunters capturing ruins, it does begin to grate and have a detrimental effect on the dynamics of WvW.

I recently started playing WvW (ya, before the achievement “forced” me to). My server is tier 2 and i can only play for max 2 hrs a night. I see no way of getting the meta, so this seems like another case where Anet is making hardcore gamers happy while they step over the casual yet again. On the good side for me is that i won’t cry if i don’t get the meta. I’ll continue to play how i want. At the same time…Anet… i love this game but it truly seems that you try HARD to create a treadmill of WORK for your GAME player base.

Meh, disagree. Most of them are fine for SEVEN weeks. You don’t have to do it much like you don’t have to do all the other PVE meta achievements.

Fwiw, I am 11/15, and of the ones I haven’t completed I think

- Sentry Capturer may be a little high considering how pointless they are
- Merc Camp Vanquisher is the absolute worst one, what a waste of time, it’s like they thought borderlands still had the quaggan nodes.

The demolition expert one is meh, depends what server you’re on. Low pop/low tier = easy, high pop/higher tier = can understand difficulties.

Demolition expert is one of the dumber ones i was talking about being rushed….and the problem rises from the rule “you have to use a siege”. This ruins everything. As you said…it makes ppl with no specialization in rams go and take rams..thus making ramming longer..thus making the whole group weaker. This is REALLY NOT GOOD! seriously not well thought out. Any explanation they come up with will not hold it’s ground against the reality of things. Why not make ppl that shoot the door for a considerable amount of time, get the achievement, regardless of the method?

Mist merc….meh…i honestly think u could have come up with better ones…but let’s put it in the neutral zone this time

Defense restorer. VERY BAD again…this only encourages people to uselessly spend supply when not needed or even worst as i’ve seen countless times since this started, take supply from keeps when they are upgrading. VERY BAD. It should have been just random “supply spent” for example… “Spend 500 supply on repairs or siege weapons” This would have actually been more useful making players actually bother to have as often supply on them as possible, for siege weapons. You would have encouraged learning…not like now just blind pickup repair and when attacking 0 supply. This one is as dumb as demolition if not more.

Sentry and supply as the poster said to high. I think 150 would have been ideal.

1. if you run with a zerg you will get 100 camps fast. Every Zerg takes the camps to get supplys.

2. you don’t have to use siege. only make enough damage on gates. i got my 30 points without any siege.

3. 50 isn’t to high. If you think it is, play alts. There you can get 5 ranks in nearly 1 hour.
first 5 ranks only take 1000 wxp. after that 5000 wxp each rank.

For the record. These archievements are not supposed to get by every casual gamer who doesn’t play wvw normally. But the pve archievments are also not supposed to get by every wvw player who doesn’t play pve normally. You have to spend a little time for getting them. And thats just fine.

- Spending Currency should be removed, spending currency IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT.
- Towers should be 100
- Guard kills should be 3000 or more

1) Remove the JP Achievements
2) Add in Defense Achievements and the Escort Dolyak Achievements
3) Make the Meta harder to complete. It’s too easy right now – this shouldn’t be a meta that people could complete in a weekend.

I do agree that there should be a way to achieve the meta as a roamer versus achieving it as a zergling, but I’m not sure how that could be implemented, unless there’s some sort of tracker in place… maybe if you complete these objectives while outnumbered, it counts for more?

I really think the meta should’ve required way more than just 15, but w/o adding any new crap achievements.
Wanna validate that we contributed to WvW enough, why not use the dailies that are already in place.
Completing 50-60 of those dailies should be super easy even for casual players and a balanced way of checking activity across all tiers.

That is not the point, I could care less about the achievements. But there simply are some achievements (the JPs) that don’t promote wvw play. Remove those and lower the meta accordingly. Hell, make the kills higher, and add daily completions (complete x amount of the wvw dailies.

Hey kitten, let me explain something to you. I do wvw daily, for almost 4 hours so I think I count as a wvw player and a hardcore one at that. But completing the meta achievement, while not hard to do, makes you go out of your way/usual wvw activities in order to do it. It takes 15 out of 19, so I’m going to show you how much out of the way these make people go. I don’t do the JPs, that’s -4, already at 15, I run as a 30 man with my guild and we rarely if ever cap the ruins because it takes time and we should let the roamers cap them, at 14 now. I as many others don’t go into EB or do so very rarely, so the SM flips and the mercs are basically out, at 12 now. So, I’m not getting the meta achievement reward despite my active participation in WvW because it will require me to go out of my way to do so, which I will say again is not what wvw is about. Good day moron.

Take the hour it takes to do the jump puzzles. Call it a guild event. Try something new.

Or have an Eternal Battleground night. We try to do that at least once a week just to shake things up (I’m not much on Eternal Battleground myself, only have 4 Stonemist caps since launch).

I can’t believe that for 49 days straight you guys refuse to deviate from your daily routine.

But how does doing the JP help wvw? This isn’t supposed to be a pve meta achievement, but a WvW one, so having 4 of the achievements be JPs is beyond moronic and gives no leeway on the others to complete. I refuse to do the JP because its not wvw and shouldn’t be taken as an achievement for the wvw season. Yeah, EB night may sound fun if queues weren’t bugged and 5 hours long, try getting 30 people through that to try to cap SM 5 times when you yourself said you have less than 5 since launch.

I think they should add more to some of the achievements (450 kills really?, I’ve gotten 600 in one night), but have a lower requirement for the meta. Also, remove the JPs from the achievements because they do nothing to promote wvw.

The jump puzzles are in the WvW maps. People in WvW go there to kill each other.

Any definition of what WvW is has to account for the fact that the puzzles are there.

Your issues with queues has nothing to do with the viability of achievements. (on which point I would say: someone once suggested to you that you transfer servers for better WvW. Possibly you may consider that again if it is so intolerable.)

No definition of WvW has to account for the JPs being there because doing the JP does nothing to advance your server in the war. Ok, you get two blueprints, but you get those as drops from the vets at camps and stuff which actually helps the war effort, not to mention that you can get them for extremely cheap in the TP. So you’re wasting time doing the JP while your server needs help capping x, defensing x, taking x camp, having some roamers flip the ruins.

We love it too. Small groups are viable, but only if they’re doing something useful i.e. capping bloodlust (if it doesn’t already belong to you on that map), flipping camps, taking paper towers etc. If a small group is off doing JPs, may as well say goodbye to all your keeps. That very nearly happened twice in BGBL.

The issue is that a myriad of PvE players are clogging the BLs just to do the JPs in this matchup, which for every tier is one of the more important because its between the top 3 servers. I don’t know, I have no issue with people doing the JP, but having it as part of the meta achievement for season rewards does not seem in the best interest of leagues or WvW.

Hey kitten, let me explain something to you. I do wvw daily, for almost 4 hours so I think I count as a wvw player and a hardcore one at that. But completing the meta achievement, while not hard to do, makes you go out of your way/usual wvw activities in order to do it. It takes 15 out of 19, so I’m going to show you how much out of the way these make people go. I don’t do the JPs, that’s -4, already at 15, I run as a 30 man with my guild and we rarely if ever cap the ruins because it takes time and we should let the roamers cap them, at 14 now. I as many others don’t go into EB or do so very rarely, so the SM flips and the mercs are basically out, at 12 now. So, I’m not getting the meta achievement reward despite my active participation in WvW because it will require me to go out of my way to do so, which I will say again is not what wvw is about. Good day moron.

Take the hour it takes to do the jump puzzles. Call it a guild event. Try something new.

Or have an Eternal Battleground night. We try to do that at least once a week just to shake things up (I’m not much on Eternal Battleground myself, only have 4 Stonemist caps since launch).

I can’t believe that for 49 days straight you guys refuse to deviate from your daily routine.

But how does doing the JP help wvw? This isn’t supposed to be a pve meta achievement, but a WvW one, so having 4 of the achievements be JPs is beyond moronic and gives no leeway on the others to complete. I refuse to do the JP because its not wvw and shouldn’t be taken as an achievement for the wvw season. Yeah, EB night may sound fun if queues weren’t bugged and 5 hours long, try getting 30 people through that to try to cap SM 5 times when you yourself said you have less than 5 since launch.

I think they should add more to some of the achievements (450 kills really?, I’ve gotten 600 in one night), but have a lower requirement for the meta. Also, remove the JPs from the achievements because they do nothing to promote wvw.

The jump puzzles are in the WvW maps. People in WvW go there to kill each other.

Any definition of what WvW is has to account for the fact that the puzzles are there.

Your issues with queues has nothing to do with the viability of achievements. (on which point I would say: someone once suggested to you that you transfer servers for better WvW. Possibly you may consider that again if it is so intolerable.)

No definition of WvW has to account for the JPs being there because doing the JP does nothing to advance your server in the war. Ok, you get two blueprints, but you get those as drops from the vets at camps and stuff which actually helps the war effort, not to mention that you can get them for extremely cheap in the TP. So you’re wasting time doing the JP while your server needs help capping x, defensing x, taking x camp, having some roamers flip the ruins.

Every server has people doin the jump puzzles. If you’re telling me that for 7 weeks you’re always taking responsibility for everything on your map for every hour that you’re on I don’t believe you.

My guild’s one of the most serious on the server but now and then we give the order to ignore PPT and kill people somewhere to avoid burning out. And unlike your server, there probably isn’t anyone on hand to replace us or our commander if he/she isn’t on the field.

Maybe have like 5 people do it at a time? This totally has to be solvable for you =)

Anyone had fun imagining what we will get at the end chest of the season? (aside from that dolyak finisher and whatnot).

Ive preemptively started laughing my kitten off at the content of the same when i saw what you get from the smaller WvW achievement chests.

Im guessing the end chest containts 3 finishers and 2 yellows.

Right now, the competition on our match-up is so intense that even a small group shirking their duties for the night has a substantive negative impact. Last week we had it easier, and could afford to take some time off. But right now, at the start of this league, almost every second counts. It’s crazy, but we love it.

The issue is that a myriad of PvE players are clogging the BLs just to do the JPs in this matchup, which for every tier is one of the more important because its between the top 3 servers. I don’t know, I have no issue with people doing the JP, but having it as part of the meta achievement for season rewards does not seem in the best interest of leagues or WvW.

I would say what’s bad for WvW is guilds goin to higher tiers. Ultimately that’s goin to burn out loyal players from each tier and kill servers one by one and create bizarre population imbalances where each WvW update gives huge kittened up queues to people at the top.

I think fresh blood in WvW is good (though I think it’ll still continue that people continue to transfer up tiers, the game hasn’t changed at all on that front). A lot of the PvE players showin up are pretty eager to learn.

The other post I made stated at the end that I don’t mind that people do the jumping puzzles, I just don’t think that having them as achievements for the wvw season is beneficial for wvw or the season. If you want to do the JP, whatever, go ahead but it shouldn’t have been a part of the season achievements and that is mostly what I’m trying to say here.

Camp Crusher: 100 camps. I’ve done ~1000 in a year. 2 months for 100 seems OK if a little high. 75 may have been more in line.

I’m already at 82 camps taken.

Castles in the Air: 5 Stonemist captures. Again, a bit too high and it assumes/insists you play EBG a lot. Some guilds & people specialise in the borders. 1 (token) or 3 would be more reasonable.

Already finished this one.

Demolition Expert: 30 walls/gates. Apart from the fact it appears to be bugged. Why on earth would I kick a treb/cata/ram expert off just to get this achievement? I’m an AC specialist for siege. Helping with DPSing them down should be fine but it seems to be at 0/30 despite taking down a dozen doors over the weekend.

Already finished this one too. This one is tricky because you have to do considerable damage to the wall/door to get any credit. I set up a treb at Durios and punched holes in Stonemist until I hit 30.

Guard Killer: 500. Just a side achievement for doing the rest – I’m not sure if it’s a fair amount til I’ve done the ‘real’ stuff

Almost done with this one. I’m at 430 guards killed.

Leapers in the Mists: No. Please, just no. What have JP’s got to do with WvWvW? ~25% of all WvW achievements for JPs?? One would have been ample as an introduction to WvW JPs – any more is just…wrong :p

Eh I just saw it as an easy achieve. This was the first thing I did.

Master of Ruins: 50. So, if I take one+ ruin per day for the next 7 weeks I’ll just about get the achievement. Too many. Ruins players will have this in a few days, everyone else will have to take time out of having fun just for an over-extended achievement.

Already did this one. It is much easier with 1 to 2 other people. Bring a friend. Stay on your own BL and go clockwise until you get the achieve. It’s 10 laps around.

Mist Merc Camps: 50. A PvE achievement….and 50 times. I’m crying here. Too many, wrong game mode. I think it’s fine to nod in their direction with a ‘Take Ogres a few times’ achievement…but 50?!?

I’m only at like 3/50 on this one. It doesn’t seem too bad as it’s only 50.

No Tower Too High: 30. Perfect. Weekend WvWers can get this done with some solid play.

Finished this one.

Defense Restorer: 500 is too high IMO. Will just lead to people wasting precious supply on walls that are being trebbed etc.

Finished this one. Since I was trebbing Stonemist from Durios, the enemy would regularly come try and take Durios to stop me from trebbing. I would call in reinforcements, and the enemy would be driven back. Once they were gone, I had damaged walls and a gate to repair. Since Umber is so close, I just used supply from Umber to repair everything. Got this achieve very quickly.

Sentry Capture: 225. Too high. That’s nearly 5 a day every day of the season.

This one is pretty high, but I’m already at 87.

This one isn’t too bad since most supply camps have 2 yaks in them anyway. Already at like 77.

World Ranker: 50. Or 125,000 wxp. Yuck. This seems too high. Maybe an attempt to get more badges spent.

I’m at 16/50. It helps to pop a booster.

I like your idea of weekly achievements instead of the 7 week achievement, but there’s a drawback. I have a full time job, as I’m sure a lot of people here do too. Each week varies for me. Sometimes I can only spend 10 or less hours playing GW2 per week. And sometimes I can be on more than 10 hours per week. It would suck so much if I missed a weekly because I had night shifts backed up to day shifts and slept in between instead of playing GW2. I prefer the seasonal achievements because then it’s easier to get them done when I have time.

I’m at 12/15 achievements already!!! So close! The hardest one has to be getting keeps. Those are so well defended, or they always get taken during prime time when I’m at work ><

I mean, my guild would never relax in a jump puzzle or PvE. That’s why I had to fight them to get through the jump puzzle but we got a mesmer that could do it and it was easy and quick and not even close to the biggest problem WvW has.

Why are you still defending having the achievement in there? Its not the biggest problem wvw has but I can assure you that on the first couple of days at least 50% of the people who queued for wvw got in to do the JP because they are easy achievements.

1) Best time to get the repair achievement is when a wall is being trebbed. Just drain all the supply to get the achievement. The best place to do this is EB if you can get in. Don’t worry if draining all the supply allows the keep to fall. That will just allow you to get other achievements by taking it back.

Some of your fellow achievers have already realised this.

2) The best way to get the capture objectives it to sit on siege and do nothing allowing the other team to flip your T3 keep. Once flipped your team will flip it back allowing you to get those achievements.

3) Demolition…easy. When your team goes to take a keep and says don’t attack the gate/wall just ignore them and attack away. Don’t worry about the orange swords.

What you describe as a problem is a feature in my tier.

Last reset we had something like double the population we usually have. Lots of fresh players interested in WvW. Not everyone’s there just for the achievement. WvW is fun and all these PvE players are findin that out. That’s what they’ve told me when I talk to them.

That is actually puttin a bandaid on what is one of the biggest problems with WvW (too much transfers to upper tiers.. such as your server).

They seem easy to achieve ,but 2 points ..
1)2 require Eb and have clearly contributed to the waiting times there vets and SMC ,a more distributed approach would have been better .Instead ANET have made waiting times on some servers excessive for EB in particular .
2)JP may be in WWW and achievable but 4 …parts of the meta.
Are even the defenders trying to argue JP are 25 percent of the WWW experience ?
The degree of stress on JP undermines the presentation as WWW achievements .

At the risk of making you bald, why do you even care about the JP ? You don’t need to do them to get your key (if you care about that).
And don’t even say “PvErs are taking all the spots to do them !!” because it’s been 4 days. All those PvErs would have to be pretty terrible to not have completed those JP yet.

Like it has already been mentioned, capping 50 ruins is a more annoying problem.

Some achievements did feel grindy. But the numbers you need are to low.

This was to reward to people contributing to their server, not the ones loggin in and doing them in 2 days by joining the karma train. I think some should be way higher, like kills needed should be 5000 atleast. So you actually have to do something. 5 SM caps? I did 40 in the past 2 weeks alone.

These achievements are a joke, way to easy to get. They should be atleast 5 times as hard, so the WvW dedicated get rewarded.

I think you have to compare these achievements with the usual Living Story achievements — that’s how Anet looks at them. And with the Living Story achievements you usually have to do (almost all) aspects of the Living Story to get the meta-achievement. Like it or not, the intention is not to truly measure whether you contribute to WvW. It’s to make/force you do all aspects of WvW.

Let’s look at the living story achievements, dance here, burn this, collect that, they baby PvErs with them Living Story Achievements, they are so simple and easy, get it done in an hour or two, this stuff is a joke, this is supposed to be WvW, PvP, I don’t want the map qued cause the JP is full and PvErs are farming Ogres.

FIX THIS ANET!

How about 1 of each JP and No Mercs?

Should just get rid of all mercs all together and just give all rewards for participating in fighting and defending.

If the achievements don’t matter to all you WvW MEGA PLAYERS then why discuss them? Just go about your business and ignore it all together.

Do NOT assume players are PvE whiners because they don’t agree with how aNet sets up this garbage. I already mentioned that I don’t care if I get the meta. I’m going to play WvW because I enjoy it. I am a casual player. aNet craps on casual players. I’m used to it.

WvW “leets” apparently also need to crap on casual players even when they want to WvW. Much appreciated, and the reason why so many probably stay out of WvW.
